Aric may have found a new home and a new family in the desert, but once more, the emperor rears his ugly head. This time his Paladins are coming to seize not only the Guild, but Aric himself. Meanwhile, in the north, as Cassia flees the imperial hounds close on her heels, Fadan seeks the support of a rebellion fragmented by politics and personal interests.
However, it is not just the wars of men that threaten the world of Arkhemia. Eliran, on a mission to assassinate Head-Archon Astoreth, discovers that the Circle is in possession of an ancient artifact created by the gods themselves.
Winds of war are rising, and in the coming chaos, the Circle’s sinister plans can only blossom. Can they be stopped? Is it already too late?
I remember writing short stories on my dad's old Mac SE 30. He would then print a few copies at the office so I could distribute them to my class. This was in elementary school. I mostly ripped off everything that I read or watched. I remember having a hero that was suspiciously similar to Indiana Jones, except his name came from a book cover standing on the shelf behind the computer.
I grew up on a healthy diet of fantasy novels, video games, and daydreaming. After graduating in business, I spent a few years cranking out headlines, scripts, and silly ideas in an advertising agency in Lisbon. Having written about pretty much everything, from laxative pills to car insurance, I decided it was time to start writing about what I truly enjoy. So I've taken the plunge and I'm now self-publishing my works of fiction.
Finishing a book is weird. You get a sense of relief, but in a way, it's a little like losing a friend. I'm feeling more relaxed than I have in months but at the same time, I also feel a little empty.
Still, pop open the champagne. The book is out on the 21st. (This Thursday!)
Spoilers Ahead DO NOT read before finishing the book!!!!!!!
If not even death can stop a God, what can?
The Shadow Of Fallen Gods deserves a 5 star rating just for the cover and the title!
Book Description
There's a description here already so I won't say much. In short, Aric gets arrested again (seriously he and cages just get along), Fadan is learning to be a Mage/King/General (Lots of things anyway, he's busy) while he struggles with the political interests of the rebellion's leaders , Eliran hunts Astoreth, the Empress runs for her life and Doric is being Doric.
Characters
Aric: I like the character growth. Aric has become a full Dragon Hunter and as he assumes more responsibilities he is growing further.
Fadan: Seeing his struggle with politics is interesting. Him being the "realist"(is the best way to put it) among the members of the resistance, who seem rather passive (I can see their point though) feels "real" in a way. I think most of us would behave in a similar manner in his place.
Cassia: Clisé damsel in distress (she's far too passive and trusting)
Eliran: Loved her in this book. She showed many new sides of herself
Phaedra: New Favorite, YOU CANT NOT LOVE HER.
Doric: We learn a bit more about his past.
Persea: I can't really see things from her perspective and while I don't agree with the Archons methods they have a point (What good is knowledge if it's left to gather dust)
Review
Honestly it was a great sequel both in plot, character growth and writing skill. And I can't wait to read what happens next.
What I didn't like
And last thing that I both liked and disliked was that there is a third book (for some reason I thought this was a duology, and was surprised when I finished it...)
Also f*** cliffhangers!!! (All authors I know use them so it's not a bad thing...)
Without trying to give away any plot points the characters have such amazing story arcs, the interactions of small characters remaining important and also having their own storylines that impact the plot is so well done, while something are “predictable” the book grows so organically with twists you would not expect and new characters are constantly being introduced to advance the narrative but those characters aren’t just throw aways and get built upon as well. I’ve been waiting for years for this book and it was more than worth the wait.
This book has been well worth waiting for and continues an excellent series. I highly recommend. The magic system is one I haven't encountered before, and the book keeps you interested from beginning to end.
I loved how V. R. Cardoso weaved the path of 6 main characters and then brings them all together at the end of this book. Makes you want to buy the next book in the series!
To conclude, this book does its predecessor justice. Not only does it build up from where book one left off, but it managed to go far beyond as well. The book's cover art alone gives you a feeling of an eerie, insurmountable enemy. While this book finished off on a pretty good note, it left some pretty good cliffhangers, which isn't a bad thing. It just means we have to wait for the next book.
Killing the cat ruined the story for me, I kept reading expecting something that never happened. The story started to get very convoluted in my opinion and I lost interest. Will not read any further. I expected the dragons to play a part. I disliked all the blood drinking, human and dragon.
Second book of the series does not disappoint, continues building story lines and character depth. The action scenes are well balanced by the views of the characters who are adventuring and experiencing them. Enough twists, turns, deceptions and surprises to keep you flipping "pages". Looking forward to the coming installment!
The story gets even better and the so does the development of the different characters. My favorite character so far is Fadan and I have to admit that there is not one storyline in this book that gets boring or a character I don't like to read about.
Waiting for book 3 now, because I really want to know how this is going to play out in the end. I have a feeling there might be some twist coming
The characters are awesome and the world is well described in TSotFG which is book 2 of Wounds in the Sky series. Many of them have made their place in my heart and drive me crazy with their dangerous ways. I am already looking forward to reading book 3! I highly recommend this series to anyone that loves adventure/action and intrigues.
Very intriguing. A little confusing but understandable the way the chapters go back and forth. The end of the book left me wanting more. Good spot for next book in series! Loved the story.
