*i didn’t read this of my own accord, i read it to my little brother (8)*
this was quite funny and quick, and after saying the book looked too childish for him, my brother ended up begging me to read more. i feel like it’s kinda cheating to count this as one of my books in my 2020 challenge, but... it’s a book, and i read it. soo...
I read this when I was 9 and really enjoyed it then, even though I can't remember half the plot. What I will say though, is that this is a good read for kids and Strong is a superb children's author.
By Ben: I thought that the end should have been longer because I didnt want it to end. It was so good and funny! The best bit was right at the end and also when Cheese was in the studio.
'Why do we have a tortoise?' I asked dad. 'Couldn't get a rhinoceros,' said dad. 'He'll [...] scare away any foxes. His name is Schumacher.'
A fun, short book aimed at young children, but made me smile and laugh out loud a few times! It's free on audible, as are some of the others in this series and it works fine as a standalone. It's about a family who end up starting a small farm to earn more money and one of the baby twins enters a trial for a nappy advert because of his bottom! Quite a lot of humour, but more in the first half of the book. Some of the gender roles are a bit stereotypical (mum is the sensible, mature one and dad isn't) if that bothers you. Narration is fantastic and makes the book better in my opinion.
This was a good, easy and simple book its easily read and amusing. this is good to read to small children and is under 100 pages so it is a very easy and fast read. I think that it is very immature and light hearted which is why I like it but also why I didn't like this book. This is a great book if your very young child wants to read to you but not something I wanted to read but because I had it I read the book, it was simple an I did enjoy this book, but I wont be reading any of this authors books again as I am not a fan of his writing. The story was very flat and 2D with no back ground on the characters or the setting.
Working in a primary school, I thought I’d give it a try to see what potential children I could pass this onto for them to read. Funny in parts, children will 100% find it more funny as they’re the target audience, but a lack in story line which seems all over the place. Does what it says on the tin though.
I'm not sure I'm exactly digging the Jeremy Strong reading vein we're on, but my daughter digs it big time, so...three stars. This book gave her lots of laughs.
Read to my year 3 class. They found it funny, but it was rather predictable and unsubtle. But laughter is always good, and bottoms, wee and exploding yoghurts seem to entertain 7 year olds.
My youngest loves these books (me, I always think the plots are just nonsense but whatever). This one is at least funny and has a really nice running theme of family chaos but full of love as well.
This book was great for me and my younger sibling as we both enjoy the humour of this author. This is a great book and I read it in any of my spare time.
