continues to impress with their endless array of “Definitive” volumes that are all that and more. If these types of book were used during our high school days, it would have made learning all the more enjoyable.
The book boasts hundreds of illustrations and photos to give readers a thorough overview of the subject matter. The book looks at more than 5,000 years of conflict from the earliest days that nations warred, right up until the year 2000.
We learn lesser aspects of the reason for wars, along with the end game of those wars. The book opens in the ancient world circa 3000BCE to 5000 BCE, with the fall of Empires, as territories were invaded in the quest for supremacy.
Charts found within the book are equally informative, with capsule views of the conflicts compressed into events by year.
They are all here: The First Crusades, Mongol Invasions, Dutch Revolt, Franco-Prussian War, Russo-Japanese War, Battle at Leuthen, Hundred Years War, and much more. So many aspects of the battles are featured, with weapons, propaganda, medicine, armor, communications, and other relevant factors.
WARFARE is like twenty encyclopedias rolled into one, with one massive, monumental coffee table edition.

Excellent book that covered the history of warfare in two ways: one by campaigns and wars and also in a strict chronological order. I appreciated that the book covered African and Asian wars, almost always overlooked in history classes. Illustrations and maps were well-done. A sobering look at how much warfare has been entwined with the history of the world.

WOW! If I was a kid, this would have been the book for me. Illustrations are grand. It's written in bite size chunks. Great for the pre-layperson. The old me thinks the young me would have loved this. I would buy this for a 10 year old nephew learning to read, building his comprehension skills.
