When Victorian earl Gareth Hildebrand travels to the future, he finds danger instead of utopia--especially for his heart.

As the eighth Earl of Kellworth, Gareth is accustomed to getting what he wants. Then he encounters a woman he suspects is from the future--a utopian future that he feels compelled to see. He intends to get what he wants, but it will involve dealing with fae magic. And that could lead to disaster--for his heart.

Dr. Catherine Ryan is drawn to the handsome guest at Twickenham Manor, with his odd combination of childish excitement and old eyes that have seen too much pain. She loses her heart to him before she discovers the truth of when he’s from. Now she faces the biggest decision of her life!

This is the third book in this series I've read. The first in which someone from the past visits our time. It is probably a lot harder to write such a story. For, how would someone who lives in 1850 really react to big city London life in the 21st Century? I think Donna K. Weaver did a great job with describing Gareth's reactions. He thinks life will be better and easier in the future. Turns out there were two world wars and there is terrorism... Life in 1850 has it's perks.
Beautiful story with fae magic and some funny situations. But also with some more serious parts.
I really like the magical time-travel world of Twickenham!

It only took reading a couple pages and then I was completely immersed in the story. I enjoyed how this book stands alone, but all the books in the series intertwine. When I started reading, I felt like I already knew the characters. "Aunt" Nellie was quick to love and Gareth also won we over quickly. He had a certain quality that I eagerly wanted to read more about. Catherine too was wonderful. In fact, all of the characters were fantastic. I enjoyed Gareth and Catherine's "lessons" when Gareth was in the present time. I especially thought the first time Gareth tried on jeans was particularly fun. It made me smile when he asked why they looked so "worn". I loved Gareth and Catherine's "lessons" and how they got to know each other. It was also funny when Catherine told Gareth he couldn't carry a sword around London. I enjoyed the turn the story took and why the two had to travel back to Gareth's time. The couple's quiet moments were sweet and enduring, but they were both torn between their two worlds.
5 out of 5 stars. The ending is quite perfect for the story. I will be checking out the other books in the series to get to know the other characters.

I'll be honest, fantasy and time travel are not genres I usually read. Because of this, I was a little overwhelmed at the beginning, but eventually found myself sucked into the story and had a hard time putting it down. Gareth and Catherine are so sweet together. I love their give and take with one another. They complement each other so nicely.

This is the first book I've read in this series and obviously I enjoyed it, but I wish I had either started at the very beginning of the series or at the least with Against the Magic. I felt lost in the beginning and wishing I had more back story. As I got further into the book there was enough information and I didn't feel lost anymore, but there were some spoilers regarding Against the Magic specifically and possibly another book. For that reason, I plan on reading the rest of the series in order.

With the Magic reminds me of the movie Kate and Leopold, which is one of my favorite Meg Ryan movies, so as you might imagine I did enjoy the book. If you’ve read Weaver’s first book, Against the Magic, you’ll be familiar with many of the characters already and with the conclusion of that book we were left wondering what would happen to Gareth Hildebrand. With the Magic answers that question. Weaver does a great job with character development. In short, With the Magic is about finding out what is the most important thing in life. If you haven’t read the first book, you won’t be completely lost because Weaver offers enough back story to alleviate confusion.

Gareth Hildebrand (who lives in 1850) met and fell in love with a woman from the future at Twickenham Manor, but she chose someone else and went back to her time. He's fascinated with what it must be like in the future and talks Aunt Nellie into painting his portrait so he will be able to travel in time.

Dr. Catherine Ryan (in the present time) attends the monthly balls at Twickenham Manor, where she seems quite taken with a painting of Gareth Hildebrand. Aunt Nellie arranges for Catherine to be a "guide" for a "friend" she has coming for a visit.

When Gareth meets Catherine she reminds him of Reese, the woman he'd fallen in love with who had visited Twickenham Manor back in his time. He's amazed at the clothing, cars, and noise in the present time, but the attack at the cafe shows him that the present also has its drawbacks. Catherine has feelings for Gareth but knows she couldn't be a doctor in his time. Aunt Nellie keeps telling them they have to work with the magic, but what does that mean?

This is the third book I've read in the series, but the first where the man chooses to go to the future to be with the women he's fallen for. Gareth was in Against the Magic and now he gets his own story and happy ending. I loved Gareth's reaction to jeans and zippers, and women showing their legs. I didn't see how these two would work things out because he still had responsibilities in his time and she loved being an ER doctor and helping people, which she wouldn't be able to do in 1850. They were torn between two different times. I really enjoy these time travel romances.

This is a clean romance.

This was my second visit to the magical Twickenham Estate, and I enjoyed it likewise, though this one had a much sadder tint to it. Both the hero and the heroine are widowed, and the hero seeks to go to the future to find some closure after the woman who loved him out of his heartbreak left him for another man. Then Aunt Nellie has some matchmaking plans laid in place to bring in the good doctor to be his tour guide. It was interesting seeing the Victorian age and modern times compared and contrasted, and of course the characters from these two very different times had very interesting chemistry. If you love time travel and/or romance, you'll love this book, and the rest of the series.

I received a free copy of the clean time travel romance novel With the Magic:Twickenham Time Travel Romance Book 2 by Donna K. Weaver and this review was given freely.
A nice blend of modern and historical day to day life mixed with highlights of modern London tourist destinations and defining world military events. This novel ends happily while hinting at sequel. Picking up where Against the Magic ends with Gareth entering just prior to the 'JUMP', Aunt Nellie brings life and love into the lives of Gareth and American transplant Doctor Catherine when Gareth travels into future London to satisfy his curiosity concerning the modern wonders of the word and the fate of his 2nd love Clarisse. Both Gareth and the widowed Catherine have to decide if potential loss of their life work, the promise of love and, staying in the time period they were born to are worth the risk of a new relationship.

This book made me laugh a little then cry a lot, and then left me very happy. I love it when a book can do that - keep me up reading until 2:00 in the morning, yet feel like it was totally worth it! I really enjoyed seeing characters from past books, and how they’re doing now, as well as watch the personal growth within the characters, be they the main or secondary, etc characters. The characters I’ve met so far in this series have been very realistic and believable, even though it is a time travel series. I will definitely be reading this entire series!

This was so exciting and lovely how it all came together. I could see just how it all played out in my mind as I read. Excitement and danger was there, love and denial also. Two hearts brought together through time only for one to think they would bring the other down. Great ending and am looking forward to the next in the series.

Can time keep them apart?

When Gareth is given the opportunity to visit the future, he has so many preconceived ideas about how ideal it will be. The author did a great job in showing his surprise at so many “modern” things. I loved the way he tried to pretend he wasn’t completely lost in our society.

I liked Catherine as well. She was passionate about helping her patients. She was also practical and fun. The way she figured out Gareth’s secret showed her intelligence.

Kate and Leopold is one of my favorite movies – in it, the hero travels to the present day from the past, though one a little closer to our time. Somehow, despite the fact that Leopold is extremely clever, it always seemed like he adapted a bit too quickly and too well.

The things Gareth marveled at made sense and his confusion at things Catherine said were sometimes humorous. I mean, how do you explain plastic surgery to someone from the 19th century? And the author took advantage of that conversation to share a Victorian beauty treatment that shocked our modern doctor (and me)!

If you enjoy time-travel stories, this one is well-done and could be a nice addition to your library. Though some of the characters (including Gareth) are from the first book in this series by this author, Against the Magic, the fact that it has been a while since I read it did not leave me at a loss for reading this one.

Between Stairs and Stardust is currently part of the Finding Ever After compilation, in which the stories are linked together through the fairy-tale book Stella illustrated. This collection spans one hundred years or so through the four stories. Keep an eye out for Between Stairs and Stardust’s release as a stand-alone paperback and an e-book. I will review the other stories in the collection in a separate post as well.

May you read happily ever after!

While I have heard it said that the fact we like to create is because we were made in the image of our creator, God, the ways in which this was expressed here was . . . well, magical! Anyone who has thought or heard that fiction is a waste of time or that it sets us longing for what we can’t have should read this book and hear the eloquent way in which the author expresses her thoughts regarding imagination aiding our faith.

Stella’s non-traditional manner of telling young Alice the story of Cinderella was delightful! Alice had never heard a fairy-tale before and her reaction and the ensuing discussion was such fun. The layering of the story within the story and how well they blended together was enchanting.

Gareth take a trip into the future

After being introduced to Lord Gareth in book 3, I was very anxious to read this book. He had developed so much in the little appearance he made in Against the Magic that I was super anxious to read his full story.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. Gareth’s story has been a favorite of mine. He goes to the future and sees first hand the advancements that have been made to his home land. He experiences life in the 21st century, but it is not the utopia he was expecting. He does however find his heart.

Catherine is and emergency doctor who likes to spent her free time attending historical balls at Twickenham Manor. After some suspicious activity she explores a restricted area and finds a painting of a man who intrigues and beguiles her. She even begins dreaming of him. Then she accidentally meets him in person and is convinced to being his London tour guide.

The way to their HEA is long and twisted, but reaches a believable conclusion. Now I anxiously await Ellen’s story.

Nice

I enjoyed With the Magic very much because it was very descriptive of the time period and also socially correct. Every once in awhile, I like to read a romance where men are gentlemanly and mannered. I truly enjoyed Catherine and Gareth's story because they didn't let time come between them.

So magical. I thoroughly enjoyed the well crafted tale of Gareth coming to the modern world. He finds more than he imagined or bargained for, especially when it comes to Catherine.

It was wonderful to watch Gareth and Catherine try to understand each other and learn from one another.

Aunt Nellie is one of my favorite side characters.

As always, Ms. Weaver spins a beautiful tale.

A man out of time

I loved this installment of Twickenham Time Travel Romances. Gareth thinks the time Reese came from must be a utopia. He meets a lovely doctor in modern times. They both discover that all history has it's delights and horrors.

I am thoroughly enjoying this series despite my typically not being a big time travel reader. These are fun. I really liked Gareth and grew to really like Catherine. I didn't connect with her instantly but I got there. I loved that Gareth was willing to learn and improve and not allow pride to stand in the way of real progress. I loved how quickly he overcame his non-feminist views, once it was pointed out to him anyway. As he said, it wasn't that he really thought a woman couldn't do something but more that it never occurred to him that a woman would want to do it. And no one in his time period did things like become a doctor to show him otherwise. And I so love that he found ways in his time period to allow his sister and then Catherine to experience more in life than what was typically expected of a woman. I'm looking forward to reading his sister's story.

Being a woman, I tend to think my own time period a better place to live. Obviously woman have many more freedoms now than the 1800's. Because of this I was interested in how the author pointed out that there are good and bad to all time periods and she included a terrorist attack to prove the point. Living in the US, 9-11 is the only experience I've had with terrorism and I, personally was far removed from that but London has had terrorist attacks I don't know how many times in my lifetime so while using a terrorist attack may be an extreme example of the negatives in my time period it isn't out of the realm of possibility. The book doesn't get bogged down by the terrorist part of the story thankfully. It just illustrates its point and moves on with the story.

So if you like sweet romance with a touch of faerie magic thrown in to travel through time then this will be a fun read for you.

Sex: some kisses
Language: no
Violence: terrorist attack

I didn't read the first of Donna K. Weaver's Twickenham books (Against the Magic) but I almost wish I had because this book seems to pick up right where the events of that one left off. There are also plenty of references to how our hero Gareth thought that he was in love with the heroine of the previous book and how she changed his life. I just thought I would put that out there in case other readers are bothered by that sort of thing. I usually am, but second-chance romance really doesn't interest me, so I won't be going back to read that one.

Other than the references to the previous book, I really enjoyed this story. This one and the next are my favorite installments in the Twickenham Time Travel universe. This story, in particular, has a hero and heroine that aren't just out of the schoolroom, which I like. There is also plenty of the time-period culture clash that I enjoy in a time-travel story. It may get old for some, but I can't get enough of characters from the past marveling over indoor plumbing and mobile phones! The hero and heroine were also given more than a week to let their feelings for each other build. I hope that Donna K. Weaver tries her hand at time-travel romance again soon.

I really enjoyed this next offering in the Twickenham Time Travel romances. Gareth knows all about heartbreak, losing his wife and son in childbirth. But a time traveler from America awakens his heart and teaches him how to live life again. The twist she has already given her heart to another and marries him. Gareth is happy for her and realizes he is ready again for a chance at love and life. Enter Catherine an American living in present time England. She sees a portrait of Gareth and is very intrigued by him. Since meeting Reese, the American time traveler, Gareth has been wanting to visit the future to see all the amazing new discoveries. Sweet Aunt Nellie of Twickenham is a fae who makes it happen. She feels the magic drawing these two hearts together. Catherine also has know heartbreak losing a husband and daughter in a tragic accident. Their hearts become invested but how do you love someone from an entirely different time period. Is the sacrifice too much for one of them to make the switch? This is a fun clean romance.

A Sweet & Clean Magical Love Story

Would you cross through time to spend your life with the one you love? That is ultimately the question before Catherine and Gareth. Fae magic can open the portal, but they must decide their own future.

With the Magic is an entertaining romance with very likable characters. I easily connected with Gareth and Catherine. They both had faced extreme sorrow, and they both had given up on love. Neither expected their chemistry to developed steadily, nor did they expect to face a climatic decision.

Donna K. Weaver seamlessly threads through two time periods while adeptly moving this well written story forward with each scene. This sweet tale is both character and story driven with a smile-worthy happy ending.

This enjoyable book is easy to recommend to readers of all ages.

This was a great story. I loved seeing how Catherine had a passion for history and went to the dances put on at the Twikenham manor. I enjoyed her medical mind as well. Gareth had found out about the possibility of time travel and wanted to go to the future. Once he got there, he met Catherine. The chemistry between the two was pretty strong throughout the book. Seeing how the couple interacted and the situations that they came across added to the story. Catherine and Gareth had decisions to make as their attraction grew. Overall, this was a great story that I would recommend to those that love romance, the medical field, and time travel.

I’ve listened to or read other books in this series but this is my second audiobook by Donna Weaver in this series. Many of the books in this series can be read out of order. But make sure that you read Against the Magic before this one. This is the story of Gareth that we meet in Donna’s previous book. He gets his own love story. He decides to go to the future to see what it is like. After meeting Reese in the previous book he is curious about this future land. He meets Catherine. They each have experienced the loss of a spouse and child. They develop feeling s for each other. Gareth knows he can’t stay in the future has he has responsibilities in his time. But Catherine doesn’t know how she can give up her medical career. This is a sweet, clean, love story.

Gareth had his heart torn to shreds when his wife and son died soon after a premature birth. Feeling that he is incapable of love, he goes in search of shallow pleasures with the hope of dulling the pain.
After Reese shows him the error of his ways, he realizes that she has traveled from a time in the future. He wants to travel to that future to learn how he might more meaningfully help the people in his own time. That is when the magic and Aunt Nellie bring him to modern time to meet a doctor named Catherine.
Can a modern woman and a man with bygone chivalry teach each other about life and love, or is a nearly two centuries too big of a bridge to gap?
You don’t want to miss this edge of your seat romantic fantasy!

I enjoyed this magical story. Twickenham Manor is a time travel portal. When an English earl decides to go to the future and meets a lovely doctor it seems he has found someone to love again. When she goes back in time with him she will struggle with staying or going. Being a modern, stubborn doctor, some friends, magic and the earl need to convince her that thebpaatbis her future. Against the Magic leads to this book although they are stand-alone HEA novels. The nobleman in the first book now has his own story as he travels to the future. After hearing about the advances in knowledge and science, he seems to be looking for a much more perfect world than 1850 England. His exploration is beautifully handled He is matched with an ER doctor with some deep losses. This is a love story so does he go or does she or do they try to bounce back and forth

Great clean time travel historical romance, I really love these books because I could imagine what I would love/hate about traveling back in time and there are so many humorous/sobering scenes about it. I always viewed the present or future being better than the past but it isn’t always true and this book made me realize that along with a romance to enjoy!
