It had a few good things here and there, but overall was too simplistic and basic for me to get much out of. I think it would be better suited as an introduction to self-love for pre-teens than for adults.

As far as this type of workbook goes, it was pretty good!

There are plenty of activities to do and each chapter has a multitude of questions to help guide you toward understanding yourself a little better.

This is certainly not a book one would just read passively. There are many questions you will be prompted to reflect on and answer. I felt like I accomplished a lot of good introspective work as I made my way through this book.

This is being returned.
I had high hopes for this due to the description and reviews but was sorely disappointed. I found this book to be very condescending in the sense that it’s content ( or lack thereof) is simplified down similar to what a child psychologist would do fir an adolescent with self-esteem issues.
If you know much about psychology in general, are self-aware and/or have been in therapy before don’t buy this book because it’s the basic stuff that anyone who has done the aforementioned things already knows, thereby already having the basic knowledge and tools to implement when mentally ready.

It’s very fill in the blank and “one size fits all” in terms of audience. I showed my therapist and she even said that it was disappointing to her in the same ways. It’s for people who just need a little pep talk or very BASIC direction a kind of watered down self awareness regarding their self-esteem/confidence.

That being said this review was not meant to be insulting to anyone who benefited from the book. I’m genuinely happy for you that you could. I just want to keep others that might be similar to me from wasting their money on it.

I took my time with this workbook. I found this book at a time when my self esteem was very low. I’m not saying I’m cured. But this book really helped.

Some good exercises. Some are exhaustive. And there are almost no examples of the exercises

_The Self-Love Workbook: A Life-Changing Guide to Boost Self-Esteem, Recognize Your Worth and Find Genuine Happiness_ by Shainna Ali receives five stars from me. The stars are based on my experience with the book and the actives, not based on any knowledge about this topic.

I decided to do this workbook because I think I need more self love in my life. I feel that I don't actually love myself as I should. I wanted to learn about it, find ways to develop it, and to be happy.

Am I happy?

Coming into this book, I had realized that I wasn't actually happy. I was fine, I thought. I was happy enough. But after some reflection over a course of a few weeks, I began questioning this and asking myself am I truly happy? or am I just convinced I am? What's going on in my core.

Now I don't remember what alerted me to self-love, but once I did, I thought that might be a key to improving my life, how I interact with my husband, with my friends, and with my clients.

I think this is a strong workbook, but really gets into the various aspects of building self love and happiness. I took my time with the book and just did a few pages a day or so. I found this enjoyable. I liked ending my day with time thinking about self-love, about boundaries, about values. I learned that I don't have a lot of these elements and had never really thought about them.

Did this book help me reach happiness? No. I never expected it to do that. I expected to learn about self-love and be given some tools by which I could become happy. This is a book that helped me start a journey not end it.

Recommended: yes. I think there are actives that many people would benefit from.

The activities do not reflect what the title says the workbook is intended to do - be a life-changing guide to boost self-esteem, recognize your worth and find genuine happiness. As a psychologist, I can guarantee no one workbook will help you achieve that.

This workbook can do a lot for the reader. It can relax them or make them reflect on issues that can then be worked on in therapy. There are other workbooks that are more limited in scope, but have more scientific backing, and might therefore do a bit more for you. Self-help works and some workbooks are really helpful in that aspect. This one is helpful in some ways, but I really cannot get behind the idea of it being helpful in the way the title says it is.

The one star is because the way the title misleads the readers is something that I find very important in the field of mental health. I wouldn't want a physician telling patients that their medication for SLE will affect their life in such a way that they'll be able to run a marathon within a week of starting to take it. Mental health professionals should uphold the same ethical principles.

the second of three corny therapy workbooks i got in residential as suggested by my therapist, this one is the most like ‘serious’ of the three i guess, i do like having therapy workbooks in my life as a daily practice, especially as i am in between therapists. although i will say it’s helpful to go over this kind of stuff with a therapist too—i had done part of this workbook when i was in res. but they’re corny. i look more forward to doing like a legit dbt workbook at sometime in the future, but trying to work through what i have right now (the third book from my therapist and also an 8 keys workbook i stole from res, eff you MN). my mom ordered this for me and dropped it off @ res

I started out liking this book, but some of the exercises were unclear to me and rather repetitive. Some parts were helpful to me; others were vague, frustrating, or just not useful. Your mileage may vary. I tried to be thorough, do only a little at a time on a regular basis, and really give each exercise some thought, but honestly, toward the end I just sped through because the sections either tried to cover way too much ground, were redundant to previous parts, or the directions didn't make sense to me.

The prompts are excellent and I think this is the perfect tool for people who are focusing on strengthening their relationship with themselves! It's so worth the read and honestly, it's kind of fun.

Self-love is SO important and it's a constant ongoing journey for everyone. I'm constantly trying to make sure I have the best possible relationship with myself and this book was a massive tool for me recently. Definitely check it out!

As the title suggests, it is filled with excercises/activities for the reader to carry out in order for the to deeply understand themselves. It is only possible to practice self love from a position of a deeper undsrstanding of yourself.

However I wish it had more examples for each exercise in order to provide the reader better guidance.

Otherwise, its a great book, I highly recommend it.

I spent a few months in this workbook and found it inspiring as well as a great reflection opportunity! I’m on my self-love journey and dream of one day becoming a self-love guide or coach. Some of this book is very straightforward, but honestly we sometimes need to ask ourselves these questions and see how all the pieces fit together.

I found this book quite useful overall but it was a bit hit and miss throughout. Some exercises were easy to do and others I had no idea how to answer. More examples would have been helpful. It left me feeling I didn't get as much out of the book as I could have. A few parts of the book have given me ideas of self-love practices to use going forward, which is great.

Really useful workbook, a lot of helpful prompts and activities to increase your self-love and self-awareness. I suggest working through it with a counselor, if you have one.
