So, I'm Drunk. Daniel T. Drunk, Jr. if you really wanna know. And I'm on a plane headed to Paradise Isle on the trip of a lifetime. The occasion? My honeymoon. Except, there's only one problem. I'm riding solo. It's a really long story, and if you don't mind, I'd prefer to leave it at that. Really? You must know? Fine, I get it. You're the nosey type. Here's the abbreviated version. I came within an inch of marrying a cheating slut. There. Get the picture? Good. But that's not what this story is about. This story is about what happened after I got to Paradise and a dead body showed up in my motel room. And, of course, the cops tried to blame it on me. And then the actual murderer decided they wanted me dead too. Fuck. The hits just kept on coming. And to top it all off. This woman started following me around the island, and she couldn't seem to keep her hands off me. But not in a good way. So if you're interested in a bit of Caribbean flavored action and adventure, with a hint of sexual tension, a dash of unapologetic profanity, and a kick-ass ending, then this is your book. If you're looking for the next best piece of literature since - oh, hell, who am I kidding? I don't know shit about good literature. But if that's what you're looking for, then keep moving, cause this ain't that. If, however, you're like me and just looking for a good time, then I'm your fella. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. Rated R for language, crude humor, sexual innuendos, and the occasional non-PC remark. Rated A+ for entertainment value. This book isn’t the procession of inebriated debauchery the title might indicate, thank goodness. Drunk is the protagonist’s surname, not his state of existence.
Police officer Daniel Terrence Drunk was all set to get wed when he caught his wife sleeping with one of his friends a day before the wedding. Heartbroken and pissed off, Drunk decides to go on the honeymoon by himself, and he doesn’t even get off the aeroplane before he finds himself caught up in unfortunate circumstances that lead to him becoming a suspect in a murder investigation. Needless to say, he has to find the real culprit to save his own neck.
This was a funny book and I’d’ve probably given it five stars if the protagonist didn’t occasionally rub me up the wrong way with his idiocy around women. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
I have to admit I decided on reading this book because of the title and my love of the country music song bearing the same name. This is not a story for the politically correct, easily offended or feminist crowd. However, me being none of those, I quite enjoyed it! This is the story of Daniel T. Drunk, a thirty something boozing womanizer who decides to clean up his life, becomes a cop, and decides to remain celibate until he meets and marries his future wife. Unfortunately, he finds said future wife in bed with her ex the night before the wedding, so he hops on the plane to enjoy their honeymoon by himself, planning on living up to his last name and getting laid for two weeks straight. He actually refers to himself as Big Drunk and his manhood as Little Drunk! Too bad a dead body in his hotel room puts a kink in those plans. This book is actually written pretty well, although a bit predictable, and I loved the group of retirees that Drunk works with to solve the killing. My only bone to pick with the author is that I’m apparently one of the very few individuals that thinks coconut is a fine accompaniment to chocolate, and Mounds, along with Russell Stover Coconut Clusters are my favorite candy! Haha! This was a fun read to end out 2020 and I think any likeminded readers would enjoy it. I’m hoping to read the rest of the series in the future.
There's lots of fun to be had on this wild ride...really hard to put it down and attend to real life.
DISCLAIMER: Do not read this book if you are easily offended!!! I work as only woman with a bunch of blue collar guys and am used to hearing fowl language and sexist comments.
Once I made it through the first two chapters it got a bit less offending.
During theses scrappy times, I was just looking for a light read. This fit the bill perfectly! Can't wait to see what Drunk and the old dudes get up to next!
If I had a nickel for every review and summary that promised me that a book had laugh out loud moments, I could buy a 12 pack and maybe be drunk on a plane or boat myself. But this one had true to its promise.
I couldn't even get to the third chapter before I completely deleted this book from my reader. It was disgusting in every way posdible: language, improvisations, illusions, the creation of the characters. Just despicable in every possible way for someone who enjoys a good read. This should've come with a ⚠️ warning for those who aren't crazy about weeding through sentences that are sprinkled heavily with four letter words and sexual innuendo. IMHO, it belongs in the trash. Free is too much.
I am definitely NOT the demographic for this book. Sex-obsessed ex-cop where 40% of the dialog is about boobs, fucking or how wonderful he is. He denigrates women in just about every sentence. Women's characters are either dumb blondes, naive and waiting for some crude guy to screw or dominatrixes. And of course they are all super, super attracted to this guy who spouts crude come-ons. Most be very frustrated guy to conjure up this stuff.
I'm now a huge Zane Mitchell fan. I just finished "Drunk on a Plane" and I loved every page. I kept thinking while I read it that it reads like a fun action movie. Kind of "Get Shorty"-like. Drunk is my kind of guy and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series.
This title was an absolute blast!!! Drunk on a Plane is definitely a "hard to put down" book, and has so much great dialog between the characters. I could easily see this being turned into a TV series or a film at some point. Fans of movies like Lethal Weapon or Beverly Hills Cop will have so much fun reading this book. This book is so much fun that I would consider giving it a second read.
3.5 Stars. If you’re easily offended, a hard core feminist, or both, you’ll most likely hate the protagonist in this opening book of a series. But if don’t take this book too seriously and treat it as a silly beach read, you’ll probably enjoy it for what it is. Your call.
A Very quirky and quick action packed story! Starts off grabbing and it takes off from there! I actually enjoyed the story and to find out that this is a series I'm soooo looking forward to reading the other books.
It was a funny read with zany characters. Not the book for those who are easily offended. There is a lot sexual innuendo and men's locker room type comments about women. I just accepted them and kind of ignored them.
Great read. Intriguing, quite comedic and just plain entertaining. I appreciated that Drunk did not go into vividly describing his sexual exploits as so so many P.I. and detective stories do. If I wanted sexual exploits I would have picked up a 'bodice ripper". But I got what I wanted, a good, rather comedic, but extremely interesting off-the-wall detective story. I loved Drunk. He was a rather laid back, easy going, unassuming, unlikely hero. But, he came alive in time to save the day, albeit with a little help from not one, but two, sexy women. The ending was just what I pretty much figured it would be with a bit more included, so I won't give it away. You'll have to read it to find out and I know that reading it will give you much pleasure. Mr. Mitchell and Daniel Drunk have worked their way onto my favorites reading list and I look forward to reading more in this series and highly recommend it to all mystery lovers who enjoy a little comic relief in their mysteries.
Ha! No laughing out loud, but I did have a few titters and maybe a few chuckles here and there, plenty of sarcasm, and snappy dialogue. I think it is very much a lads' book, especially in this day and age and environment. I'm sure some women will find it offensive, and others not so much, just like everything else under the sun. "You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time" - John Lydgate.
Poor Drunk is having a miserable time of it, trying to be a better man and respecting his soon-to-be wife, by abstaining from sex before marriage, only to find her having her nuptials early and with her ex-boyfriend in Drunk's bed, so Drunk heads off on his honeymoon on his lonesome to Paradise, an island in the Caribbean. But before his plane even lands, he's already in trouble in more ways than one.
For me, it was a very enjoyable and entertaining read, with a lot of funny banter and commentary, a reasonable plot, and likable characters. It's not Shakespeare by any stretch of the imagination, but who wants to read that all the time? Throw in a bit of light entertainment now and again.
Exceptionally creative - Danny Drunk :) what a hoot of a name!, he is surely having a tough week in a tropical Paradise resort and I applauded when he chucked his suitcase over the balcony banishing the 'Pam' factor clothing. Action-packed page after page, with no low spots - a very blokey type of book, (farts - booze) with a real mystery twist interwoven with high humour, crappy jokes, sex and chick magnet called Drunk - Sergeant Drunk. The inclusion of a CIA Agent Nicolette and all the old codgers (senior citizen) who assist Drunk in saving the day a true craft - I could clearly visualise them all. The inclusion of bitcoin currency is novel and exceptional - adding the spice of $$$$ intrigue. Highly entertaining, from beginning to end and the inclusion of the Cocktail recipe a special extra bonus. I will be seeking the rest of the series. Oh...as an Australian we do have a saying F*uck me Drunk....(used when someone is really surprised) - Poor old Jimmy could have used this saying when Drunk introduced himself....
I’m going to be honest, this book has been sitting as one of my ten kindle unlimited pics for probably a year. I kept reading other books, thinking that this would be some kind of silly, satirical something that I really probably wouldn’t enjoy. I finally read it just to get it off my list, and I couldn’t be more surprised to have found an amazing character in Drunk! He’s so relatable and completely believable. Then there’s Al whom I just adore. The characters are so vivid, and it’s been a while since I’ve read anything where they really feel like someone I’ve gotten to know. The adventures are fun and exciting, the plot moves along at a great pace, and the people along the way are wonderful as well. I’m so pleased to see that there are more books featuring Drunk, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing what other adventures he and Al get into. I’d definitely recommend this book if you enjoy a good mystery, adventure, and a little bit of irreverent humor along the way.
Pretty fun and interesting book! I got it as one of the free Amazon First Reads, not having many expectations. Once I started reading, it was fun, irreverent, and the pages started flowing. Something I've particularly liked & enjoyed, it's NOT politically correct. Some people may be offended by some comments... I just enjoyed the character with his strengths and weaknesses entirely.
Something to remark is that the story is not about a drunk guy on a plane having a thriller adventure. Drunk is the protagonist's surname. The story is very well described, and you can relate this guy's approach. The guy is what in Spanish we say "a stray bullet". Someone for whom you don't have big expectations, he honors his surname, and enjoys drinking, partying, f***ing, and that's basically his life. Suddenly he realizes he wants to change his life and finds the perfect woman...in the church! The day before the wedding he finds her sleeping with her ex. He first goes to drink then catches the plane to his honeymoon travel, but alone. From there, it all starts getting interesting. I won't say more, but you will enjoy the book. Easy and fast reading.
This is a stupidly good book. The beginning starts off a little heavy on the locker room humor, but it lightens up and turns into a very good mystery with excellent characters, depth and continually good humor. Much better than I thought it would be at, say, page 20. Stick with it.
Drunk is a great character. His supporting cast, like Al, are all good and there is great tension/attraction between him and his throat punching nemesis, Natasha. The plot has twists and turns and actions. Unlike so many books of this type, everything is feasible. The always underestimated Drunk does not exceed normal human limits.
I can't wait to dive into the next one. Then ending was a perfect set up for more a classic blend of mystery and humor. If you want to smile while reading a mystery, this is for you.
If you look at this as a comic novel, with characters exaggerated for effect, it will go down a treat; however, if you approach it seriously, well, you're likely to be offended. Danial T Drunk will come off as a misogynist, a thug and a foul-mouth with hardly a redeeming social characteristic - except maybe that he does love his mother and truly wants to uphold the sanctity of the marriage vows. Look at him as a cartoon, and all the improbable events surrounding him as part of an island-insanity induced fever, and the story will turn into a laugh out loud, amusing way to spend a couple of hours' reading time. It's pretty skillfully written, stays just within the boundaries of the "clever romp" and gives us a cast of believable characters - all quite good enough to be getting on with.
I didn't think I was going to make it through the first ten percent but I hardly ever not finish a book. So I pushed through and then he finally starts to introduce other characters and I'm able to stop hearing about how narcissistic and great the protagonist thinks he is and the book got much better.
The beginning did feel very novice and not as humorous as it sounded like it was intended to be. Like if something's vulgar, it's supposed to automatically make it funny or something. But about a third of the way through, I felt Zane really started to get in his writing groove and I enjoyed the book very much after that. And hopefully he continues that groove through the next books in the series as I look forward to reading them and hopefully give 4 or 5 stars.
Definitely one for the beach—a fun, light read that's perfect for holiday relaxation. I enjoyed the humor and the overall lighthearted tone, though the crude jokes might not be for everyone. The fast-paced narrative kept things interesting, even if it took me a while to warm up to the main character; at first, he didn’t really appeal to me.
There were a few narrative gaps that bugged me, and the occasional use of "that" for people instead of "who" was a personal pet peeve. However, the setting was great and added to the tropical vibe. The ending did feel a bit like a Scooby-Doo episode, but it was still an entertaining read. While I’m not in a rush to dive into more of Drunk’s adventures, I’ll probably give Book 2 a go—this time, definitely on the beach to get the full experience!
Drunk on a Plane: The Misadventures of a Drunk in Paradise Book 1 is by Zane Mitchell. This is definitely one of the few books I have read and when finished asked myself why I had read it. It is written in first person by Danny Drunk. His writing lives up to his name. It sounds as if a drunk person was writing the book. He jumps and skips around and everywhere he goes, he is constantly thinking of or actually drinking. The story line is good and I would wish to see a serious writer take the story and write a gripping tale. I thought the writing left much to be desired.
I read a lot of Florida/tropical books and authors. A LOT. Just when I think I've discovered all of the great authors out there....I find Zane Mitchell. Drunk on a Plane was far funnier, better written, and satisfying than I ever expected. Zanes characters are well formed and believable, there are twists and turns and plot changes. When the book was over, there were no 'loose ends' that can be so pesky to a reader as well. I highly recommend Drunk on a Plane, and have already downloaded his next installment...Drunk on a Boat.
While being forced to quarantine and stay at home , I decided that I needed something funny and up-lifting to occupy myself before eating my way thru my house. It was perfect and hysterical. It was a great plot and I know I laughed out loud several times. I have gotten the rest of your books and I'm starting on the next series. I really need to hear more about big drink AND little drunk. If the rest of the series is as funny as the first then I demand a tv series. Looking forward to laughing out loud!!!
I actually got this book as a free promotion book via Amazon. I'm glad I did, because it's a good pass your time read. The first of a series. It's got a reasonably good mystery/crime story, with lots of humorous moments and comical characters. If you don't expect it to be a deep thriller and treat it more as a book to read that will keep you both interested and, at the same time, lift your spirits, then you'll enjoy it. I recommend it, and will be reading the next book to see how the series pans out.
Fast paced entertainment ... Should become a television series!
With such an easy going, almost conversational writing style it doesn't take the reader long to get hooked into reading one page after another as quickly as possible until the story ends in a blaze of glory. The title, "DRUNK ON A PLANE" doesn't do the story justice, but the character development, dialogue and plot do; and makes this an extremely enjoyable read. Giving it the benefit of the doubt, it gets 5 STARS FOR ITS PURE ENTERTAINMENT VALUE.
I really wanted to love this book. Premise was great and I thought it was a good setup for a series. However, I just didn't like Drunk. Maybe all guys do this and I don't know but I think every woman he saw, he immediately assessed her boobs and butt and, since this was from his POV, didn't shield us from it. I also didn't think he was nearly as charming as he thought he was. I don't think I'll read any further although I will miss Drunk's pal, Al. He was great.
