I really enjoy this series and this 4th installment did not disappoint. Ms. Freethy's stories are told at a lightening pace. You are propelled into chaos beginning with the first chapter and it is full speed ahead after that.

Parisa is attending an engagement party for her childhood friend. The celebration is a big event because her friend, Jasmine, is wearing an engagement ring that has been in her fiancé's family for generations. The ring is not only valuable, but cursed, too. Jasmine shares her concerns about the ring and her new life with Parisa. Their conversation is interrupted by the abduction of Jasmine and Parisa is left unconscious. She doesn't remember much but given her background with the FBI, she knows they have little time to find Jasmine. Parisa is rescued not once, but a second time by a handsome stranger at the party, Jarod. Jarod lets Parisa believe he is a journalist and interested in the kidnapping, but also tells her that a terrorist attack in France could be tied to the kidnapping which elevates their fears. The two join forces using their resources to get closer to the truth. They begin to realize that the truth may be too unbearable to face and find their lives are in danger.

This installment also included Vincent Rowland and Damon from the first installment. I'm still not sure if Vincent is a good guy or adversary, but his storyline is a constant thread through the four installments so it will be interesting to see how this unfolds. I'm looking forward to Diego's story and the next caper.

Elusive Promise is book four of the Off The Grid. Special Agent Parisa Maxwell attended an engagement party at the Bezikstani Embassy in New York when she and the bride-to-be Jasmine were attacked. Jared MacIntyre following a lead to a person of interest in the bombing in Paris happens to be in the Embassy that night. Jared feeling something was wrong found away upstairs and found Special Agent Parisa Maxwell fighting to breathe and Jasmine kidnapped. The readers of Elusive Promise will continue to follow Special Agent Parisa Maxwell and Jared MacIntyre to see what happens do they find Jasmine live.

Elusive Promise is another fantastic attention to the Off The Grid: FBI series. I love Barbara Freethy portrayal of her characters and the way they intertwine with each other throughout this book. Elusive Promise is well written and researched by Barbara Freethy. I like Barbara Freethy description of the setting of this book.

The readers of Elusive Promise will learn about the consequences of radicalism on people and the community. Also, the readers of Elusive Promise will learn about how love, friendship and family can make a person do things that can hurt others.

I recommend this book.

She's caught between a rock and a hard place. Should she trust her instincts or follow her heart. He's nobody's hero, but in a stranger's eyes he may have found his saving grace. Step into a world where the truth is distorted, the danger is real and the attraction is overpowering. Freethy is the master of the dark. Elusive Promise is a thrilling tale of dangerous love, heart-stopping action and haunting mind games. Enter at your own risk. I dare you.

Another good addition to this series. Danger, tension, love. Each book focuses on one person in a group of friends. Characters from previous books make an appearance giving the series a sense of family. I like that. I think these books are best read in order. There is a secondary, overarching plot growing throughout each book and I feel it getting bigger. I enjoy the pacing of these books. There is some content that I wouldn't label as "sweet" or "clean" so head's up on that.

Content: mild swearing, fade to black sex scenes with some details. Peril, mild violence.

Love this series and this book did not disappoint. Paris’s is a bad ass woman who speaks her mind and knows how to take care of herself. Jared is driven and focused. They both are hiding things from each other but need to learn to trust each other to save the kidnapped woman and save the day. I loved it and can’t wait for the next book!!

This is book #4 in the Off the Grid: FBI Series and it did not disappoint! In Elusive Promise, we meet Parisa Maxwell. She’s come to town for an engagement party for a dear friend from her childhood. In her career as an FBI agent she doesn’t get many opportunities to be herself so she’s really enjoying this chance. Unfortunately, her night to relax and catch up with old friends, takes a tragic turn and she’s left in a kinapping situation, having to trust a man she’s just met with her life, and hoping she’s not making a huge mistake.

Jared MacIntyre is at the same party doing some work of his own, when he sees a woman he can’t take his eyes off of. Little does he know, before the night is over, he’ll get to know more about the woman than even her own family knows! They’ll both learn each other’s secrets and have to work together as a team to solve what appears to be a kidnapping, but is so much more than that.

This story is filled with suspense, drama, and plenty of romance to keep you flipping page after page. Don’t make plans for the day because you won’t want to stop once you start reading Elusive Promise. Much praise to Barbara Freethy for another amazing story!

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! Another wonderful story in the Off the Grid-FBI series. Barbara Freethy has once again delivered an incredible romantic thriller with Elusive Promise. I absolutely loved Elusive Promise, the fourth book in her Off the Grid-FBI series. Each book in the series keeps getting better and better. Elusive Promise had me guessing throughout the story as to who was behind the kidnapping and the other thrilling events. I could not out it down. I loved every page. I really enjoyed how the book was told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Barbara Freethy has once again shown that she is a master storyteller. Elusive Promise is the story of Parisa Maxwell, an undercover FBI agent whose specialty is foreign languages and Jared MacIntyre, a CIA agent whose cover is a journalist. Parisa and Jared meet at the engagement party of one of Parisa's childhood friends, Jasmine Kumar. Parisa and Jasmine have not seen each other in more than fifteen years. Jared is at the engagement party as an uninvited guest. During the party Parisa and Jasmine go to talk in Jasmine's bedroom at the consulate, while in the bedroom a poisonous gas flows from the ventilation system. Jasmine is kidnapped wearing the family heirloom that Westley gave her as her engagement ring. Jared rescues Parisa on two separate occasions, once at the consulate and again at an FBI safe house. While they are searching for clues into Jasmine's kidnapping, and the attempts on Parisa's life, Parisa and Jaredshare secrets from their past and begin to explore their feelings for one another. Jared admits that he thinks that Jasmine's kidnapping is related to a bombing in Paris where April, his friend and coworker was killed. Parisa and Jared both reveal their true identities to one another. My favorite part of the story is when Jared tells Parisa that he wants to be her home. I really enjoy the poignant and bittersweet moments, the plot twists and the surprises that I have come to love and expect in Barbara Freethy's books and Elusive Promise did not disappoint. One of my favorite parts of the story are the poignant moments that Jared shares with Parisa when telling her about his mother's death and the moments they share at his childhood home. I love that Damon Wolfe, was Parisa's FBI contact in the story. I love catching up with the other characters from the series. I love how all Barbara Freethy's epilogues, wrap up the ending of the story and are always my favorite part of her books. Never would I have guessed who was involved the Jasmine's kidnapping and the attempts on Parisa's life, that was truly a surprise plot twist. I love how all the lose ends got tied up. I love the characters and the way she describes the locations in and around New York City. It was really an incredible story and I loved every page.

Like this 4th entry in Freethy's Off the Grid series! This series features a group of FBI agents that teamed up during training at Quantico and have remained close ever since. Each book of the series has centered on one of the agents, with life-threatening incidents occurring that force them 'off the grid' and give rise to suspicions of both a mole in the FBI and that the father of another of the group who died during a training exercise at Quantico is out for revenge of some kind.

Parisa is invited to the engagement party in NYC of a childhood friend, held at the consulate for the tiny Asian country from which the bride-to-be Jasmine and her family come. During the course of the evening, Parisa and Jasmine go upstairs in the embassy for some 'girl talk', however, kidnappers release a toxin into the venting system of the room they are occupying, then kidnap Jasmine and the one of a kind ginormous blue diamond engagement ring on her finger. Parisa, trying to fight off the effects of the toxin, is rescued by a handsome stranger who disappears as soon as he knows she is reviving and safe. Naturally, they meet up again when Jared once again saves her life when she is attacked in an FBI safe house. From that point on, they stay 'off the grid' and the action does not really cease until the very end.

We only learn who Jared is gradually, but we do know early on that he's after the terrorists who bombed a cafe in Paris a few months earlier. Parisa is an FBI agent, assured, skilled, but with the heart to make a priority of saving the kidnap victim then bringing down the terrorists. They manage to compromise and work together to a satisfying conclusion. Along the way, Parisa and her colleagues become convinced that someone they know is the puppeteer and is manipulating them out of revenge. There's one more in the series ... can't wait!

One serious ding though: author treats NYC as it it a city where everyone drives and no one uses taxis or subways. Um , no, people do not find convenient underground parking garages in office buildings, hotels, or apartment buildings. There are some here and there, yes, but not as suggested here. Nor would anyone have been able to leave their car in a convenient alley in Manhattan, or find parking on the street. They all would have been using cabs and subways. Oh, and that tunnel? Could never exist.

I've been enjoying this series so far, and Elusive Promise is no exception. FBI agent Parisa Maxwll was attending the engagement party of her childhood friend when her friend is kidnapped and Parisa is left for dead. CIA agent Jared MacIntyre is at the party for his own reasons--to find out who was working with a terrorist group that orchestrated a bombing which left his partner dead. When it becomes clear that the two cases are tied to one another, and someone wants to finish what they started with Parisa, the pair team up to get to the bottom of the mystery.

This book grabs your attention from the first chapter and holds it through the entire book. The characters are well-written and there's a perfect blend of suspense and romance.

Readers get to see a lot of Special Agent Damon Wolfe in this book, who was featured in the first book of the series, Perilous Trust. It was great to see him again and see him work with Parisa. Readers also get to see Vincent Rowland again. For those new to the series, Vincent is a former agent and the father of Jaime, who was killed in a training exercise that Parisa, Damon, and three of their other friends had taken part in. He shows up on every case, and the agents are suspicious as if it's just a coincidence that he's around, or if he's doing something to sabotage them all in retaliation for his son's death. He has a legitimate reason to be a part of this case, but he's also acting suspicious. I can't wait to finally find out what he's really up to.

If you haven't read the previous books, that's ok; this works as a standalone. I do recommend reading the other books though, because not only are they all good, but it'll give readers a chance to get to know the other characters better and to see how Vincent's been acting and why Damon and Parisa are wary of him in this book.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, Elusive Promise is a must-read.

I loved this book. Barbara Freethy has a knack for getting you hooked on her stories in the first few pages. This is a story about Parisa a language translator for the State Department. She is also an FBI Agent working undercover. She is attending an engagement party of a childhood friend. Across the room is Jared a journalist. He notices Parisa and while he is staring at her she notices him. Both of them are feeling an instant attraction. Parisa sees her friend Jasmine and they leave the party to go upstairs to catch up. Jasmine has a 16.6-carat engagement ring. As the 2 women begin their visit Jasmine tells her about a curse that is supposed to be on the diamond. As they were talking a heavy scent began filling the room and Jasmine passed out and was kidnapped and Paris was gasping to catch her breath and was hit on the head. Parisa was taken to the hospital. There is a lot of commotion at the hospital everyone is waiting to see what Parisa remembers. The FBI is there and her friend Damen who is an agent takes Parisa to a safe house and someone with a gun breaks in and tries to kill Parisa. The safe house was compromised. Jared had followed Damon and was watching the house so he comes to the rescue. Parisa is happy to be rescued but now she has no idea who to trust. This story is a fast past read which has so many twists to it you don't want to put the book down until you know who took Jasmine, is she alive, who wants to kill Paris, and who Jared really is. This is a book you don't want to miss. Once again Barbara Freethy does not disappoint her readers and leaves you counting the days to the next FBI Off the Grid 5th book.

I’m absolutely glued to this series, and always thrilled when a new book in the Barbara Freethy Off the Grid series is available!

Parisa is an undercover FBI agent. She’s been invited to a childhood friends engagement party, although she hasn’t had contact with this friend since they were children. Her friend Jasmine wants to catch up with Parisa and asks her to head upstairs to the family quarters for a bit of quiet conversation before the party gets completely overwhelming.

Jared has crashed the party. He’s looking for the group who bombed a location in Paris and has tracked them to this party. Seeing Jasmine taking Parisa upstairs, he follows but is unable to stop Jasmine’s kidnapping. With the guards dead or dying and realizing the kidnapping has been accomplished by gassing the area, Jared gets Parisa into some fresh air and goes after the kidnappers but is unsuccessful apprehending them.

Jared heads to Parisa’s hospital room to question her…and so the story begins!

Why was Parisa invited to an engagement party after years of no contact with her friend? Who is Jared and why is he so interested in the group who were behind the bombing in Paris? Is Parisa in danger? Is Jared? Can they work together, or do they have too many secrets between them?

Grab a drink, find a comfortable reading nook, and get immersed in this fast paced, realistic, romantic thriller!

Elusive Promise continues Barbara Freethy’s the FBI series.
Agent Parisa Maxwell has been invited to the engagement party of a long-ago friend. But something is troubling her. At the party, her host mentions that they are so happy that Parisa reached out to them. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. But before she had a chance to ask about this, she is gassed and her friend is kidnapped along with the massive diamond she is wearing on her finger. Parisa vaguely remembers one of the men she saw at the party pull her from the room where the kidnappers left her, where surely, she would have died, if not for his intervention. But who is this mystery man and what does he have to do with the kidnapping? When he shows up the next day the safe house where she is staying, saving her for a second time, she learns they have a common objective, track down her friend so Jared can find the kidnappers…a group he thinks is responsible for another crime committed in Paris.
But how do two people work together when there is no trust? And through out the whole book, is the undercurrent of another mystery, one that goes so much deeper. This one threads itself through all the books of the series.
Wonderfully intense, breath catching action, Barbara Freethy keeps getting better and better.

My Review of Elusive Promise by Barbara Freethy

Christmas came early for me, as I was giving a chance to review Barbara Freethy’s new Off The Grid Book, Elusive Promise. This book focuses of Parisa (great name) Maxwell, who after finishing assignment decides to go to an engagement party of an old friend. Cut to a few hours later, the bride to be has been kidnapped, Parisa is saved by a handsome stranger and is in hospital. Thus starts a hunt for the kidnapper whilst trying to thwart all the attempts on her life.

Enter Jared (Swoon) who just “happens” to be in the right place at the right time to save her life....twice...He’s on a mission of his own and is willing to use Parisa’s contracts to help him.

What I loved about these two, is that even though they both know they are not being completely honest with each other, there is a connection from the beginning and although the case they are working is real edge of your seat, watching them fight their feelings, begin to open up was really beautiful, especially set against the backdrop of danger.

Ms Freethy is a genius when it comes to character development, and these two were perfectly imperfect and as a reader you just fall in love with them. Can’t wait for the next book

Congratulations on another winner

A thrilling romantic suspense novel

I have always associated Barbara Freethy with sweet contemorary romance! She has written dozens of enjoyable love stories! I accidentally stumbled upon the Off the Grid: FBI Series! This my fourth read in the collection! They are great stories about a group of FBI trainees at Quantico who profoundly bonded there and have stayed connected ever since! When one of the "team" needs help, insight or someone to trust, they have each others back! Strangely, each of them assigned to various locations across the country, has had a suspicious life-threatening incident that is more than coincidental! The six FBI agents might be targeted!
Elusive promise is about Parisa, one of the agents in question! She is trying to find and protect friends from her past, from a terrorist group, aided by a mysterious (federal agent from some agency) who has an agenda related to her case!
This is a compelling page turner that grabs the reader immediately, and never lets up! A pulsepounding thriller, with a simmering romantic entanglement slowly emerging! The plotline is intense, puzzling and will keep you guessing through all the suspects, clues and danger!
This book is not sweet, but a down and dirty, heartpounding, (did that just happen?) Excitement!

Parish now at thirty one, surprised to get an invite from consulate general for his daughter Jasmine engagement party. Years ago classmates and friends, but hadn’t kept in touch. Being with the FBI for four years, seems everything was at breakneck speed, little time for anything else. Seeing the happy couple, her ring was dazzling, but said it had a curse on it. Talking with her later as Jasmine expresses if she was giving up what she was to be a part of him, and what he wanted. Both sister were excited that Parish had reached out to them, to come that night which she hadn’t. A smell and Jasmine collapsed, a door opened, the two men had on the wrong type of shoes. Jared rescued her, and again at a safe house. What Jared and Parish are saying is partially true to one another. The bottom line there was a connection between them, and an innate truth, to find Jasmine. Plot unfolds as though you are there, which draws you into the story. It was a set up to get Parish there, but why. I love Jared and Parish working together. A superb plot, mystery and romance, which doesn’t stop till the end.
Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.

Elusive promise is vintage Barbara Freethy! A continuation of her intriguing FBI off the grid series she gives us strong, well developed characters and a great story with a fast paced, intense ending. Parissa Maxwell is an FBI agent just coming off a long undercover assignment. She's at a friend's engagement party when her friend, Jasmine, is kidnapped and Parissa gets caught up in it. Jared MacIntyre is CIA...also undercover, but he's at the party to try and find information about a bombing in Paris in which his partner was killed. He ends up saving Parissa and the two of them decide to work together to solve Jasmine's kidnapping. They don't trust each other 100% but enjoy verbally sparing with each other. Their push-pull is a lot of fun and when they do finally get together it makes their love stronger. For me a good romantic suspense book needs a good story, strong characters, honest dialogue, chemistry between the hero and heroine and believable suspense. Elusive Promise checks off all the boxes for me. Thank you Barbara Freethy for another great read!

While the 4th book in the FBI: Off the Grid series follows a similar pattern to its predecessors, mixing a high stakes, tense thriller with some romance, it’s still an exciting and highly enjoyable story in its own right.

It starts with a kidnap at an engagement party, which brings together FBI agent Parisa Maxwell and Jared McIntyre, two loners with similar goals and plenty of secrets to hide. Despite the initial attraction, suspicion makes them both reluctant to trust the other. It leads to some snappy dialogue, quite a few twists, and a slow realisation that if they are to find the kidnap victim, they need to trust each other and work together.

It’s a smooth, well-written story that gathers momentum as the investigation progresses. The characters are sharply drawn, plausible and easy to like as the author draws you into the story and then refuses to let you go.

While there are connections to characters in the previous books in the series, this is a standalone novel that maintains the high standards and qualities of its predecessors.

With ELUSIVE PROMISE, Barbara Freethy’s Off the Grid: FBI Series just keeps getting better and better.

Parisa Maxwell is the focus of ELUSIVE PROMISE, Book 4. As an FBI special agent, Parisa usually works undercover. But when she’s finally herself at an event with ties to her past as a teenager, Parisa finds herself in the middle of a kidnapping that could be linked to terrorism. To solve the case, she must rely on Jared MacIntyre, a stranger with as many secrets as Parisa.

I read ELUSIVE PROMISE in a day because the dynamics between Parisa and Jared were so strong and the mystery moved so quickly that I found it impossible to put this book down.

Freethy’s Off the Grid: FBI series revolves around the surviving five agents from a group of six who went through FBI training together at Quantico. Each agent gets his or her own book, but there’s a mystery running through the series. I’m not sure I’ll be able to wait for Book 5, which should tie up the mystery for the group!!

Get ready for the race of a lifetime! Jasmine has been kidnapped from her engagement party & Parisa barely escaped death from a deadly toxin. Soon, Parisa is racing against time with the man that saved her life. Jared MacIntyre was following a lead, looking for a suspect in a cafe bombing when he stumbled over Parisa. He manages to convince her they’d be better together but he keeps his own secrets.

This was an interesting story for the 4th installment of this series. I enjoyed Parisa & Jared & their attempts at developing a relationship while they each keep their own secrets. I remember Damon from his story & was happy he popped in here. I still can’t develop a sense of Vincent. It seems like he turns up every time danger rears it’s head but is he evil & planning their downfall or is he trying to protect them? Loved this installment with its non stop drama & danger. I can’t wait until the next story!

Elusive Promise is Barbara Freethy’s latest gift to readers and there is nothing elusive about the excitement contained therein. The story sucks readers in immediately and the questions and action will keep one turning pages until the end. Parisa and Jared are trying to help each other solve several crimes, prevent others and not be killed in the process. They both have secrets about who they are and what their real jobs are and neither one is looking for a relationship, but the attraction between them can’t be denied. It is difficult to say more lest I give spoilers of this well written book. If you are a fan of Ms. Freethy you already know that this will be a must read. If you are a new reader, be prepared to become a huge fan. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Most highly recommend.

I love this series and this book was a great add to this FBI series. Each book can be read as a standalone, but to fully understand the mystery and back story, I advise reading each book in this series. Each book follows a single member that was part of a group of FBI training class where one of their peers died while in training. Something huge has happened to each member in the group, but is it all consequence of planned by a mole? This book follows one member as a family friend is kidnapped right in front of the agent. This book has a great suspense plot that keeps you guessing who to trust. I loved all the secondary characters and the love scenes. Barbara Freethy knows how to write a great full story that keeps your interest to the end. Order this book and all in this series, you will not be disappointed!

The 4th book in the FBI series and what a great story this is! Parisa is between assignments and goes to an engagement party for a childhood friend. There's a mysterious stranger that catches her eye but also gives her an uneasy feeling. There's comments made regarding her attendance at the party that don't make sense and when her friend is kidnapped she fights to find her. Her unlikely partner is that same mysterious stranger, Jared. He is truly a man of mystery. As the story unfolds and these two learn more about each other and come to trust the other, they are drawn together more and more. Ms. Freethy does an incredible job of including characters from other books into this one and keeps you turning pages to see how things will end. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving my review.
