Yūki Tabata (Japanese: 田畠裕基, Hepburn: Tabata Yūki) is a Japanese manga artist.
After working as an assistant to Toshiaki Iwashiro, he created the one-shot Hungry Joker, which was later serialized as a full series. After its conclusion, he launched Black Clover.
Asta and Yuno grew up together, abandoned at the same church. They both determined to become Magic Knights... Yuno's abilities soon grew to genius levels of power and control while Asta didn't show even a spark of magic and made up for it by training hard physically. It became apparent to both when they received their grimores, Yuno a coveted 4-leaf clover and Asta an unheard of black 5-leaf clover, that they were each other's biggest competition when it came to achieving their goals of becoming the next sorcerer emperor.
We delve into the elf menace and follow different squad members as they battle members of the magic knights, not to kill but to save them. It was so neat to see Vanessa, Charmy, Luck and Magna work together to figure out how to neutralize their foe’s magic. Dorothy’s dream world magic was dynamite too.
Asta is forced to battle Gauche and his little sister, Marie, who he’s helped rescue in the past. It was neat seeing Asta in such a tight spot. I really loved who swept in to save the day. And of course Asta couldn’t let that squad member sacrifice themself.
We start setup for the next arc with the shadow house. Yay! Fue and his sister arrive as does another aristocrat family. Yuno also takes surprising action. I’m excited for this next part and the battles that have been started. Asta is paired with someone I wish he’d see as a love interest. And we understand that Fue is quite close to his sister. I love these human touches that make me love the characters more.
Right at the end we learn something shocking about... Charmy! Wow... I loved this and can’t wait to witness how the magic knights triumph.
Okay, I don't have a lot to say about this volume since it was back to back fight scenes with some lore I don't give a shit about sprinkled in, but let me just say THE WOMEN ARE MVP'S OF THIS SERIES!!
No joke, the women in this series are so badass, so strong, so fun, and I love seeing all of them fight! Dorothy's fight with her elf self was incredibly entertaining and Charmy going apeshit on Rill's possessed self was FUCKING AMAZING! And of course, our queen Mereoleona was as fiesty and spirited as ever. Seeing her backstory with Fuegoleon's was heartwarming (pun intended) and seeing them strive to be strong for each other is just too awesome. Crimson Lion King may just be tied with the Black Bull for best guild, just saying.
That's about it, though. I'm assuming the rest of the arc's just gonna be one fight after the next, which is fine. I'll be thrilled when we get some down time, though.
The fights here were really peak and now we are in another dark dimension too. Henry and Charmy really stuck out here and I love them with all my heart!
My fears are basically true. Everything is kinda OK and fine. It is boring and when you have characters that fight against friends, then it is, unfortunately, obvious that nothing is going to happen to them. Well, to no one. I just wish there were more stakes in this.
There were two moments in this volume, which were great. First was a comparison of the Captains of the Crimson lions. Fuelogeon and Mereolena have a great chapter together, with some quick flashback and it just works because we understand that they are strong and they deserve it to be strong. The second moment is with Charmy and seeing her transform into a normal-sized-lady and her sheet transform into a wolf. It was just very visually cool plus Seeing Rills magic is picturesque and very nice. Tabata draws those splash pages truly well.
But the story is still meh. A lot of plot conveniences and for one cool moment there are two, which I did not enjoy as I believe was intended.

The Black Clover manga series holds a special place in my heart, and can evoke so much emotion and somehow nostalgia from the anime, but I’m not quite sure how. In number 20, we still are at the Magic Knights vs Elves event. We see different side of familiar characters, both through forbidden spells and hidden attributes. The final few pages did for me, cut a little weird, knowing what happens in the anime, but that just may be because I do know how it pans out. What I mean is that the ‘cliff hanger’ was a little lacking, but the story itself is absolutely amazing. Another full star review for this series.
Some of those two-page spreads had museum-tier art, why did they go so hard in this???
Also unfortunately for the bad guys, the heroes that remain aren't fighting to save the kingdom, they're fighting because they just like hurting people lmao
He de-aged the adult woman and then made her naked twice, I will not suffer this. Also, too many straight-up fights in a row, but the art is really good, as always, and some of the solutions are cool.
Another mediocre volume. The structure is pretty much the same with the previous two volumes. Our heroes fight possessed Dorothy in the dream world. Asta and others also fight possessed Gauche and Marie. The only thing interesting about these fights is the way elves use their immense mana. For example, Marie's magic is not that great but the elf can use it much better, especially combined with Gauche's magic. Other than that, the fights are still "meeeh." We are getting close to the end of this arc so hopefully it'll be better.
Pretty good Volume. Escaping the dream world, rescuing Gauche and Maria, and entering the Shadow Palace to fight against the real enemy. AND Charmy vs possessed Rill, where she finds out she is part Dwarf and can change to use Dwarven Food Magic, where her sheep becomes a wolf. Synopsis: https://blackclover.fandom.com/wiki/V...
With half of the Black Bulls trapped in Dorothy's Glamour World, Asta and the remaining members deal with the remaining Elves before heading towards the Shadow Palace and the final battle with Licht.
The way the Bulls defeat the Glamour World is so nuts, I loved it. The last chapter or so with Charmy going over the edge have my hyped.
The negatives about this volume: siscon guy sucks and I hate him and he's half this volume. Hate him. They should've killed him in his elf form and let the dude die. Worst character. The siscon thing is not a funny gag and as a singular personality trait it's awful. Also this is the volume where the women start losing their clothes like the fire lady losing her shirt and covering her tits with fire nipple pasties, and the plant lady getting her clothes ripped up by big monster things. The guys never have that sort of damage it's just to go haha women, nakie, hehe.
The good about this volume: I like Charmy. She's cool. The fact that the 'food-loving character' trope isn't some fat person who is the butt of every joke is nice, and to turn "cotton magic" into manifesting sheep chefs who heal your mana? That's a cool way to make a white mage. Is it great that she's traded it in for the "lolita young girl who's actually really old and totally legal"? No, but the series also doesn't sexualize her so I guess we count that as a win. We also had a cool moment with the fire siblings and their rivarly, which made for a great singular chapter (especially with their relationship contrasted to siscon). The art in this volume has some great stuff too, Tabata is really flexing their artistic muscles with the painting magic in this volume showing big setting pieces and a multitude of weird monsters with different styles. It looks like a straight up horror fantasy manga in some panels! For all my complaints about Black Clover's story, Tabata can flex those art muscles when it's really needed.
If this volume was just the Charmy battle with that one sibling rivalry chapter it would be maybe my favourite volume in the series. Unfortunately it's stuck with cringey siscon boy and that ruins it for me.
Uh, okay, so Charmy is actually the coolest character now!?!?
This volume is pretty great for fights, as it continues escalating the arc to the point where it really does feel "final" (though it isn't), with all the time these characters get to shine. I'm reminded actually of Saint Seiya, where a lot of the content here is just "so-and-so will fight now so you can see the cool new shit he's learned." I suppose Mashle works as well for a more contemporaneous comparison, though I'm not sure that manga would have been far into its post-gag action focus by this point (if it had even started running in Jump yet at all...).
If I had to say, I think the fight between Asta and not-Rill is the coolest right now, but specifically because of Charmy's entrance and Food Magic Bankai. Otherwise I'll give credit to the end of the not-Gauche fight. The fights starring Fuegoleon and Mereoleona aren't as fun, unfortunately; I feel like they're just doing the same shit they've always done.
I also think Yuno has grown on me a bit. I've accepted the fact that he's just gonna show up and stunt on people, and that's basically it. Once you learn to tolerate that, it's easier to accept further such cases.
Decent fanservice regarding Mimosa's boobs in Asta's face, by the way.

Asta is a young boy who dreams of becoming the greatest mage in the kingdom. Only one problem- he can't use any magic! Luckily for Asta, he receives the incredibly rare five-leaf clover grimoire that gives him the power of anti-magic. Can someone who can't use magic really become the Wizard King? One thing's for sure - Asta will never give up!
The Black Bulls suddenly find themselves trapped in Dorothy's magical dream world. With Dorthy having complete control over the space, escape seems impossible! Meanwhile, Asta has his hands full against powerful mirror magic wielded by a former ally!
Emotions are high as the stakes never seem to lower in this series. I will say the line I enjoy the most when reading is the deep, deep desire to keep friendships. I wonder if a time will come that some of these will be severed, but for now seeing people claw and scratch and continue to break their own limits not for self, but for others…its simply magical! I wanted to like this volume more than 3 stars, but it rests as another solid volume of Black Clover. Pages #121-122 are my favorite within this volume! Page #128 has the fan service moment of the book. This series isn’t heavy on it, but occasionally it appears.
Black Bulls bonding baby!… minus Finral who got the short end of the stick and then was beaten with it.
I knew Miss Charmy had power, but dang she is on level with some of the higher ups. I like how everybody wrote off the Black Bulls as misfits but all of them ended up being some of the best magic knights the clover kingdom has ever seen.
Sooner or later Asta’s going to learn of the Wizard King’s death… and he’s going to lose it like every anime protagonist does when they realize the person they looked up to is dead/dying.
