Second Time Around

Rate this book
Potter Lake, GA is a small town filled with life and love, where the hustle and bustle slows down just enough to notice what— and who is around you.
For recent transplants Sage Owens and Bennett Alexander, their greatest losses marked the end of to have and to hold. While time marches on, it doesn’t move in reverse; it doesn’t bring back the love of your life.
These two souls are drawn together in this quaint town and discover that their meeting is not so accidental but fated. What time may bring this holiday season is a second chance at love.

Second Time Around was a good book but, I felt like it was a little bit misleading. The way the characters were written, you would think they were much older. Up until Rae said how old Bennett was, I thought he and Sage were in their late 50's or early 60's. Bennett was 45 and the author never clarified how old Sage was. The way the characters spoke is what made me think they were much older. Sage asked Bennett if he was "getting fresh with her." Men and women in their 40's don't use phrases like that and, more importantly, black people in their 40's don't use phrases like that. Hell, I'm older that these characters and I don't say ish like that. Aside from that, I really loved Sage and Bennett. I'm a sucker for a second chance love story. It's always refreshing to read a book about characters in their 40's. These are the characters I can relate to. Sage and Bennett were hesitant to start a new relationship and find love again because, both of them were widowed. But, once they got past their guilt, it was on and poppin'! Second Time Around was a really good black seasoned romance. DL White is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors.

Great Short Story

I usually try to avoid the short stories, but this was a good one. I really enjoyed Sage and Bennett. It was refreshing to read a story about a widow and widower and how they were able to relate to one another. It was nice to read a great story about seasoned adults.

This short story was a lovely addition to the Potter Lake series. It starts about a year after the epilogue of book 1, Leslie's Curl & Dye. However, as the main characters were not really featured in that, so you could read this on its own.

This is a great read for those still in the mood for a little "holiday" in their reading as it's set over Christmas and New Year's. White gives another low angst relationship set in a small town. I love that this time the MC's are in their mid-40s. Bennett and Sage are both widowed with grown children and struggling with the guilt that comes from being ready to move on. White does an amazing job of balancing their sweet & understanding with need & sexy.

An easy and delightful read. I'm super excited to listen to book 3, The Guy Next Door.

So Unexpected

Oh my, it’s was a sweet short of Bennett and Sage and catching up on Potter Lake! So unexpected DL White but so happy that you did! You don’t read much about widows and getting second chances at love for over 40ish! Great read!

This was touching; two people who lost their spouses coming together. I admittedly didn't care for Rae, how she talked to Sage or how Sage let her talk to her. Strangely, my favorite part was the sex scene. It was hot but also a bit humorous. lol

I liked!

Second chance love is quickly becoming one of my favorite genres, and this short shows why. I’m a ‘seasoned ‘ reader who loves love stories, and while I enjoy reading about young folks finding love, I’m always excited to read stories about ‘seasoned’ characters. We’re out living and loving, too, y’all. So much to love about Sage and Bennett, both in previously happy marriages, finding love again after losing a spouse. The story is quick and adorable, with a nice shot of heat thrown in.

Potter’s Lake is sounding like the place to be! Looking forward to reading more about it!

Wholesome

This had all of the charm that I enjoy in a small town romance. Everyone was so nice and inviting. I enjoyed getting an update on Kade and Leslie. I was rooting for Sage and Bennett. They seemed like they were perfect for each other. Bennett started off a little too “aww shucks” for my liking. Sage had to keep taking the lead. Then she pulled away from him. I wanted to shake her. Eventually, they got it together and became the couple that I hoped for. While I didn’t enjoy this book as much as books 1 and 3.5, I did appreciate getting another “seasoned” love story.

Sage & Bennett were a breath of fresh air. I liked how being widows really is what added the spark in their new relationship. I think this a topic that gets forgotten in romance that love for the second time around can be just as difficult, intriguing, new and sometimes even better. I like how honest they were about how difficult it can be to start back dating. I really liked how Sage/Bennett were okay with reminiscing and bringing up their ex-partners Virginia/Gordon during their conversations. Cute story with seasoned characters.

Oh Ok

This is definitely a book for this looking for older characters. Both characters are over 40 and widowed young. They're both new to dating so it's interesting to see them navigating something new while being aware a new partner won't replace their late spouses. This was cute. The ending was more of an HFN than an HEA, which makes sense for a holiday story about two people just meeting. They can't all be instalove!

This was such an enjoyable read. I'm not ashamed to say that for the majority of the book, I was smiling like an idiot as I read it. The MCs stories, were so easy to root for and cheer on. And the author did a very impressive job of bringing this pair to life. Second Time Around is a very, very well put together story. Loved it.

Great Read!!!

I really liked this book! Sage & Bennett 's widowhood and the healing beyond their loss was very palpable at times. I can imagine that can be a very desolate place emotionally. It was great seeing their connection and willingness to explore something new. I enjoyed the folks of Potter's Lake, can't wait to see them again!

This made me think of how I think of my parents. It’s super cute, but the last thing I want is the sordid details of their love life. Nope I’m good on that, but Sage and Bennet are adorbs. They get each other and they know what they want. That’s what mattered and what made this a smile-worthy story.

Delightful story! 📚

This is a great story and writing to end my Christmas reads month. The characters " Sage and Bennett" are mature (seasoned) enough to know what they want. I am eager to read the remaining books of the series and additional books as the author has written, as this is first time read.

A great and different holiday short...

I can't think of a mature love story that I've read before but this sets the bar high for any others that come along. I enjoyed meeting these characters and reading their journey to a second chance. Great story!!!

Mature love!

I loved that the characters were over 40 and still passionate as they navigated their second time. I need another book either about them or at least where they are secondary characters.

You can find good love the second time around.
This was a nice love story. I appreciated the maturity with these characters as well. I don't normally read a lot of books where the characters are over 40ish but this has definitely reminded me that I need to seek more of them.

Another great novella from DL White. This was a quick and light heated read with a second chance at love theme. Sage and Bennett are both widowed and older adults not looking for companionship, but found it unexpectedly. I enjoyed this read a lot!
