Mindfulness as a practice is very simple and its effects are well- documented. Now, modern biology and neuroscience can actually quantify many of the effects of mindfulness and you may be surprised by how powerful the impact can be. In Masters of Mindfulness, 11 top researchers and proponents of mindfulness discuss what modern science and contemporary research have revealed about this ancient practice and the many ways in which it can benefit your life. These 22 lectures present a unique and extraordinary opportunity, bringing a diverse group of renowned specialists together in one place for the first time to share their own personal experiences and their latest research, and to guide you through several mindfulness exercises. Acting as your primary guide through the many concepts and presenters, psychologist and mindfulness expert Dr. Shauna Shapiro brings together some of the greatest minds in the field to give you an immersive, 360-degree experience of mindfulness, its practice, and its benefits.
This was an interesting journey across lots of different lectures and ideas by a variety of people. It was mostly psychological in content, and largely theoretical and conceptual. There were a few practices sprinkled here and there. It would make good listening on a long trip, or taken in bite size chunks each day with some spare time at a cafe. Nothing too earth-shattering, but it does offer some information that people may not be aware of, in regards to complementary areas of mindfulness, psychology, and pop science. Overall, a good listen and a good selection of lecturers.
This was somewhat of a mixed bag, but still worth it. Some of it was just not new to anyone who is familiywith the subject matter. And, other parts were more engaging and informative. But, I love how diverse and well rounded it was. And, it had something for everyone, even those who aren’t new to the studies, the information, and the practice. Overall, well worth it.
I didn’t love all of the lectures, but having a variety definitely made it more interesting. I love all the mindfulness ones. This has been my favorite series so far.
This course wasn't what I was expecting but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I thought this would be more about the neuroscience of meditation and mindfulness. Instead, it was a collection of leaders in the mindfulness field giving brief lectures and introductions to their specific mindfulness practices. Some were more relevant to my life than others but I can see the utility in keeping some of these practices in your toolkit. Overall, this was a good intro to mindfulness and the various modes of practicing it, as well as the different situations that it can be applied to. I'm always a sucker for learning a new skill or concept and this course achieved that. The Great Courses catalog has a few other programs on mindfulness that I would like to explore now that I have a little better idea about different ways to practice- so I'm off to find the science behind it all...
I had this out from the local library, somehow had too much else to do; then, I listened to a few chapters the night before I was about to return the book; the content is excellent; I'm lucky to be able to renew it and listen to some more chapters. I have read lots about mindfulness and positive psychology in other books. This set of DVD's expands and improves my knowledge, is well edited and put together, and reinforces the important parts of mindfulness and what it does for us. It's much more than a set of lectures telling us how to meditate better. For example, there are parts on aging and sex and how to improve these activities!

Super cool guide through different areas of mindfulness.
Just from my memory alone it covers...
1. Mindfulness and aging 2. Mindfulness and water 3. Mindfulness in business 4. Mindfulness for trauma 5. Mindfulness in sex 6. Mindfulness for brain performance
There were others but if they're not coming to me as I'm writing then they probably weren't that influential for me.
I really enjoyed getting all the different perspectives and each of the lecturers was entertaining, some more than others.
I really wanted to like this but couldn’t. This is not really a book about mindfulness practice. It is an odd assortment of New Age self-help material. It is not it all what I expected. There is one section which discusses, in detail, the effect that mindfulness practices can have all the aging process. In my opinion, and based on my expectations, this was the only section that was really of any value.
Excellent set of lectures overall. Some of the lectures did not resonate with me but the others were very well articulated and argued. I plan to go deeper with some of the material from Shauna Shapiro, Rick Hanson, Kristine Carlson, Juna Mustad, Mike Robbins, Amishi Jha, Elissa Epel, Jessica Graham, Dan Siegel.
Definitely worth a listen. Lots of different angles all coming to the same point - mindfulness is key to health, both physical and emotional. Resiliency, gratitude, awe, and conscientiousness all conspire to clear the mind of the hindrances we put there that keep us from living comfortably with ourselves.
As someone new to this concept, I found it written in relatable terms that didn’t make me feel lost before I’d even begun. It wasn’t boring and I learned a lot. It was exactly what I needed it to be.
