When archeologist January’s plane is shot down over the Guatemalan jungle, she knows she’s being hunted for the invaluable Mayan artifacts she’s carrying. Only one man and his team can save her…the covert, black ops Team 52, and the distrusting former CIA operative who drives her crazy…
Dr. January James has a motto: live life to the fullest. A terrible incident in her past, where she lost both her mother and her innocence, taught her that. Now she spends her days on archeological digs doing the work she loves. When her team uncovers a pair of dangerous artifacts in an overgrown temple, she knows they need to be secured and safeguarded. But someone else knows about the artifacts…and will kill to get them.
Working for the CIA, Seth Lynch learned the hard way that people lie and will always stab you in the back. He has the scars to prove it. He lives for his work with Team 52—ensuring pieces of powerful ancient technology don’t fall into the wrong hands. When he learns that the feisty, independent archeologist who works his last nerve has died in a plane crash, he makes it his mission to discover who the hell is responsible.
Deep in the jungle, Seth rescues a very-much alive January and it is up to him to keep both her and the artifacts safe. Hunted from every side, their attraction is explosive and fiery, but with January’s life on the line, Seth must fight his own demons in order to rescue the woman he can no longer resist.
I’m a USA Today bestselling romance author who’s passionate about fast-paced, emotion-filled romantic suspense and science-fiction romance. I love writing about people overcoming unbeatable odds and achieving seemingly impossible goals. I like to believe it’s possible for all of us to do the same.
I love hearing from readers and you can find me on Facebook, Instagram and my website: www.annahackett.com
If you've read this authors Treasure Hunter series then you will remember the team that kept getting in their way and taking ( stealing !) amazing artefacts. Well now we are getting to know Team 52 and if you want fast paced adventures then look no further. January James is what can only be described as confrontational, hard headed and argumentative. So when she needs rescuing from eco terrorists who better to turn up then the guy she whacked over the head last time they met ! Seth knows the woman pushes all his buttons and she sure is a hellcat but no one is hurting her on his watch ! I admit I love these action packed thrilling stories. I just go in and know that it's pure escapism but I'm loving the historical details that admittedly can be a bit fantastical but with so much going on there is never a dull moment This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
‘Mission: Her Rescue’ is the second instalment of Anna Hackett’s Team 52 series, which, as a spin-off of Hackett’s Treasure Hunter series, gives more credence to theories of advanced ancient civilisations with hints of the paranormal appearing within the story. Seth Lynch is paired with January Jones here, which is apparently an enemies-to-lovers trope, though the enemies part is one that happens off-page (and retold by other characters), so the slide into lust is quick and more baffling.
Of all the Hackett’s books I’ve gone through however, I’m afraid ‘Mission: Her Rescue” resonated the least with me for a variety of reasons: a heroine who was petulantly stubborn for the sake of being argumentative and difficult (leading to some TSTL moments as well), for the same clichéd push-pull in the pairing, for a hate-to-love trope between 2 leads whose chemistry felt just non-existent, more so when it turned into instant love after a good tumble in bed, for the same type of enemies they face.
I’ll be the first to honestly admit that this isn’t a series I’ve been particularly enthusiastic about, given the rinse-and-repeat themes that appear here, along with the same-ish issues that plague the protagonists for not trusting each other as well as the same kind of baddies that populate each book (essentially, there are too many shades of the Treasure Hunter series here).
Thus far, this mysterious team hasn’t been a stand-out at all despite their purpose and their intriguing ability to slip between the cracks of politics and military agendas. I generally do like Hackett's wild imagination and what she writes about, so it was a surprising struggle even to finish Seth/Jan’s story even (this slid down into a trite and clichéd-ridden HEA that made me cringe), despite the short length of it, though these are clearly my own nitpicking and personal preferences that have contributed to the book being a disappointment.
The Indiana Jones-style adventures continue in the second entry to the Team 52 series, combining hot romance, team chemistry, and quick action that make for a read you want to turn your brain off and enjoy.

Not only does Dr. January “Hellcat” James have to worry about just surviving a plane crash in the Guatemalan jungle, but she’s being hunted down by ecoterrorist mercenaries who want the secret and dangerous artifacts she’s transporting.
These artifacts have the power to transform nature into a force that overwhelms modern civilization, bringing the planet literally back to its roots.
Seth “007” Lynch is tasked with collecting the artifacts too, but he’s also hoping to find the frustratingly tempting woman alive. When the pair find each other, the race is on to get the artifacts to safety—with their lives, and hearts, still intact.
My only small complaint is that sometimes the character dialogue became stilted and formulaic, especially toward the back-half of the book.
This is such a fun series! Archeology. Then add a secret military special-ops team (Team 52) sent out to recover missing and dangerous artifacts and aid the smart, kick-ass archeologist that finds them. The chemistry between the protagonists is smokin'. SOLD!
I enjoyed this rescue romance. Sure it jumped straight into the relationship but i hadn't read book one so I suspect I missed the set up. But the storyline kept me interested for the most part and the characters were fine. Nothing heart stopping but totally readable.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and finished it in one sitting. The villains in this group, eco terrorists were a new and refreshing concept for me. I loved the ending and last surprise. The history and archeological elements in this book was very fascinating. Makes me want to google or watch related movies. Waiting eagerly for the next book in the series. Recommended.
Team 52 is on the job again. This time, it's in the jungle with Dr. January Jones. And who's the guy who's smitten with her? Seth. He's fighting the smite, mind you, but the guy is definitely smitten.
I mean, sure, they poke at each other like crazy and January could probably argue her way out of almost any situation (which drives Seth MAD), but that's part of their charm. January isn't one to take things sitting down and Seth isn't one to let things happen around him without having a hand in its outcome.
Which means these two have plenty of sparks. SO MANY SPARKS.
Which also means their make-up sexy times are STEAMY. As one would expect.
Team 52 is a tight group and I'm enjoying the way these guys both have each others' backs and push them to make the right choices when it comes to their hearts. What can I say? I like watching broody, strong men and women finding their special someone.
THRILLING - DANGER - ACTION - ROMANCE THAT SIZZLES!
MISSION: HER RESCUE is a treat to all who love a story filled with spine-chilling action, high-level suspense, life-threatening issues, emotional ups and downs, humor, one hot alpha protective hero, an independent lion-hearted heroine, a cast of intriguing characters, sensuous fiery romance and a fantastic happily ever after.
Seth and Dr. January James are opposites, always arguing and their witty banter is phenomenal. Team 52 flies to the Guatemalan jungle in search of January's crashed plane. Seth finds her alive, bruised and tired relieving the heavy ache in his gut. January is full-of-life where Seth is cautious and untrusting. The twists, turns, and dangers make this story quite a thrilling ride until they reach their happy ending.
CAPTIVATING fast-paced well-written read that had me on the edge of my seat flipping pages to find out what came next. I laughed, felt anger, got a bit emotional at the backstories and loved every second of this thrilling story. The characters are engaging and the vivid scene descriptions are awesome. January manages to fill Seth's life with joy and love; something he needed but thought he would never have. I adored them together. The camaraderie between Team 52 is awesome. Finding this to be a most entertaining read; {of my own volition, without any stipulations, I reviewed an advanced copy.} Without any hesitation, I recommend this read.
The archaeological stuff at the beginning kept making me think of Douglas Preston's The Lost City of the Monkey God so I was waiting for everyone to get sick from an a mysterious illness. It's probably just as well that didn't happen.
Knowing you're going to get a formulaic romance is sometimes nice, because you can put it down if you need to, but I kept noticing the same plot points in here coming at the same location as they did in book 1. Which isn't great. Also, I'm on to book 4 at this point and saw a reference to Seth and had no idea who he was -- not terribly memorable characters here.
CW: violence, m/f sex, kidnapping, reference to rape
Despite this series being a contemporary romance, I was taken by this group of brawn and brains with strong women and men falling hard. After the group leader having found his other half, it is turn to the taciturn Seth with the spitfire January. Impossible to find two more opposite persons, January lives life at the fullest while Seth has built so heavy walls around his heart and soul, trusting nobody. January is a heroine who astonished me, with her past trauma, she could have become bitter, angry and resentful against men instead she embraces life and enjoys everything life has to offer. While Seth closed himself to everyone, refusing to let anyone pass his defenses. Together they are like oil and water, rubbing and scratching each other’s skin. One more action-packed read with enjoyable and entertaining protagonists, special mention to Brooks and his Star Wars T-shirts.
Trying to deliver two artifacts to safety hands had proven dangerous to Dr. January James. But she was a strong woman, decided and with resources to fight against the threats. Seth Lynch, one of Team 52 pilots, had not had a very good experience with Dr. James in the past and he did not had forgotten her. He was a hardened man who trust nobody outside his team, but the feisty woman needed their help to accomplish her mission. Would he be able to trust her and risk all? A Thrilling adventure with lot of action, suspense, betrayal, danger, violence, romance and passion. Liked Dr. James belligerent, witty, sharp tongue and fearless character. Enjoyed the exciting descriptions and narrations that made me visualize the action.
Team 52 returns with Mission: Her Rescue. Dr January James has discovered two jade spheres in a dig in the jungles of Guatemala. The condition of the temple in which they were found leads her to believe the spheres may be made of jade but hold more than just the secret rituals of the Snake Kings. She is in route to Las Vegas to Team 52 when her plane goes down in the jungle and all aboard are presumed dead. Seth Lynch has always found January James to be an irritant but as the Team flies to the dig to try to locate the crash and secure the spheres he hopes that January has somehow survived the crash. The story allows us to see into the factors in their past that have formed Seth and January. The jade spheres prove to be more powerful than anyone imagined.
Book 2. Well the baddies are delusional and I just couldn’t understand their logic and it was doing my head in a little bit. BUT, I certainly enjoyed the chase of the case and the fabulous Team 52 while they work and battle to secure some newly discovered artefacts. I don’t mind these types of adventures one bit.
Our Doc is another feisty one, not sitting back and letting someone else fight the battle, nope, she jumps in with both feet even if that means shes putting herself at risk. But it’s ok because our non-trusting hero is learning to trust and love and he’s here to save the day AND apologise for f***ing up.
The artifact hunting secret government Team 52 series continues with another exciting standalone and KU library selection. Archeologist Dr. January James and her team have discovered two jade spheres, which she suspects are potentially dangerous. She makes arrangements to deliver the spheres to 52 when her plane crashes shortly after takeoff. Now, fighting for survival from an unknown enemy in an unforgiving jungle, she prays 52 and it's very annoying Seth Lynch will get to her in time.
This book was brilliant. Anna knows how to put the men through their paces. January is heading out to meet Team 52 and take 2 new artifacts to them however it's not all plain sailing. Her plane is shot down and she's the only survivor. Team 52 gear up to see if January is alive or not and if the artifacts are still safe. Seth is scared that January could be dead but soon finds her. Will they fall in love? Time will tell. Can they stop the mad man trying to get his hands on the artifacts to use against humanity? Read this epic adventure to find out
I'm really enjoying this series. Great, hot, protective alpha heroes. (with one hot nerd coming up in a future book!) Plenty of action and adventure and steam. It may not be everybody's cup of tea, but I love the sci-fi elements, too, with the artifacts.
Plenty of sparks flying between Seth and January in this one. My favorite line is about how scary a dad he's going to be when some high-school boy wants to date his daughter--and he says, "I want a boy."
What a pair these two are - usually at odds with each other! January’s strong, independent, and in charge of what’s happening in her life. Seth is a bit of a mystery, multi-talented, totally untrusting of anyone other than his fellow crew members. But...there’s something special about Dr. James. Their romance is thrilling to follow as they race through jungle and desert to keep dangerous artifacts safe! It is always a pleasure to read the fascinating history behind the relics discovered. Very exciting reading!
OK so I’m starting this review by stating - I LOVE the name January James! It’s such a great name that perfectly suits the adventurous, smart and tough archaeologist. January is totally put through the wringer in this book. She handles herself well but it’s always handy to have a dangerous, secretive and smexy ex-CIA agent on hand. Seth Lynch is all that and more and the two of them make a great couple. These new Team 52 books are full of action, adventure, and sigh worthy romance. It’s always a pleasure to read one.
4.5 stars... Just because my favorite Anna Hackett's series is Galactic Gladiators! They are a covert, black ops team known only as Team 52. Their mission: to secure and safeguard artifacts deemed highly dangerous and classified...and protect the women who capture their hearts. Strong alpha males protecting fierce women in hazardous situations... What else would you ask for in a romance book? Can't put it down! Fast paced, well written, another hit for Ms. Hackett!
This is a riveting read! The adrenaline flows as the action heats up making it impossible to put down. And oh man that first kiss..... I love getting a history lesson along with a great read. I have to research the Snake Kings. I received an advanced copy of this book. I freely and gladly leave this honest review.
Hackett has done it again. I love this series the characters are believable and the story moves forward with lots of action. Like all of her books she relievers and you can enjoy the read.
What a hot, combustible read. Seth and January are like oil and water, the two don't mix but its a fine line between love and hate. I loved this book. Once again Anna has given us a faced paced, well written book with lots of heat and passion. I love this series and cannot wait to see the next installment. Anna has knocked this one out of the ball park.
I received an ARC as part of the Advance team group and this is another hit!!! Another great couple of explorer and badass soldier protector in the middle of an extraordinary adventure, this time in the jungle. I just love this new serie with scarred warriors and clever heroins who just kick ass. Can't wait for the next instalment!!!
This is turning out to be another good series. I really like Seth and January. Anna Hackett is great at creating strong, intelligent, sassy, independent women and strong, intelligent alpha men that are confident enough to appreciate those women for who they are and don't try to smother them. The dangerous artifacts are always quite interesting. Smith and Kinsey's story will be starting with a bang.
