Harry the virgin Duke of Somerset knows little of love, while Louis the sly Duke of Warwick knows too much. When the two dukes come together for the Bilsdale fox hunt in Yorkshire, Harry finds himself drawn into Louis' bed. But when secrets from Louis' dark past come to light, Harry fears that the fox isn't the only one being hunted.
THIS WAS AMAZING. A wonderful historical telling of Harry and Louis. If you've read "Flightless Bird" by the same author, this book is FILLED with references to it. Loved it, 11/10.
A principios de año únicamente leí fics larry, i'm sorry.
I didn't like this story very much. The historic year doesn't drive me crazy and neither do the places. I think Harry is too naive and doesn't like it very much. Louis seems like a horrible person at first, but then turns out to be amazing (and beautiful). However, I don't like the ending and also the stories after the bonus are a no for me (the traumas for the third help). However, it is very well written.

It has been a while since I was last taken by a story as much as Victorian Boy did. It has also been a while since I read a story with this writing style and I am glad to say that they never disappoint. Maybe it is something about the way it transports readers back to the olden times filled with chivalry, courtship, and romance, but I find myself enjoying every book I have read in this style. Maybe it has something to do with the metaphors and the flower words, such profound phrases and heartfelt language is seldomly observed in modern times.
Needless to say, I absolutely adore this story. Though it is written in a way that love between the same genders is forbidden as with the then society's aversion to discussing topics that were considered sinful by the church, it was one way of showing the exclusivity of devotion and the teachings of the church. I found the balance between the serious and the fun perfect. The twist was also something that is believable in the story's context.
Poor Bertie, she will be missed. I also loved how Eleanor and Beth stood up for themselves and were somehow given the chance to chose what to do with their lives— a privilege most women in their time cannot afford. Poor Teddy had to go through an insurmountable amount of stress; he just wanted everything to go according to schedule. Poor Charles for being a victim of Harry's innocent amorosity— he just wanted his master to be away from the devil aka the Duke of Warwick aka Louis.
I also found Harry's treatment towards Achilles to be a manifestation of his frustration; and his fixation on Louis' thrilling lifestyle is both endearing and sad, proof of his eagerness to join and please the society caused by the deprivation of social interactions as he was raised and imprisoned in his own home.
The Duke's death was also ironic in a way that his greatest fear and the exact thing he tried to protect his son from was what brought him death.
ALSO, the amount of times this fic hurt me with its writing style is waaaaaaay too much.
This book was interesting. It's a murder mystery/romance. The writing was fun, I enjoyed the language and the change of time periods. I found them comical and entertaining. Like Harry being scandalized for showing his arm, being "in the nude", and EGAD. It's a pretty nice story. I enjoyed the side characters a lot, I found them funny but not very well rounded. They didn't have too much depth but I did find them really enjoyable. I liked Harry and Louis' story. It was interesting, very cute, and had a nice amount of angst, tension, and mystery sprinkled in. Harry was very sweet and innocent, Louis was very daring and amusing.
Book summary for personal memory: Louis' family died in a fire and he's the sole survivor. He stays at Harry's house and then he steals Harry's horse. 4 years after, Harry's dad dies and Louis invites Harry to go hunting. They go and Louis renamed Bertie, Albertine, and they have a mini betrayal trope when Bertie chooses Louis over Harry. Harry finds Louis having a threesome with his bestfriends Roy and Frederick; he founds out Louis is gay and decides to pray for him. Harry feels the sexual tension and it's written very well. They fall in love and the tension and angst is written really well.
This isn't a new favorite, but it was a fast read and it helped me read something after Flightless Bird, they're written by the same author and this book has a couple of FB references. Overall, I wouldn't mind rereading this book. It was entertaining, I found a lot of it really funny and I enjoyed following along the story.
I’m a sucker for victorian gay stories and this one hits all the good spots. Good writing, great story and incredible characters, love the development, plot and a good enemies to lovers is always welcome in this account❤️
