Before becoming a writer, Linsey was an archaeologist who studied shipwrecks in all kinds of water, from the tropics to muddy rivers (and she has a distinct preference for one over the other). After a decade of tromping around in search of old bits of stuff, she settled down to start penning her own adventure novels and is freaking delighted that people seem to like them. Since life is better with a little (or a lot of) magic, she writes urban fantasy and paranormal romance.

Well here we go again with a story full of magic, humour, action, romance and of course heart. To say Rowan has suffered is to put it mildly but she's a woman who constantly surprises both the reader and herself. Having had her powers cruelly abused and stolen she's had to adapt to being without magic but then bam her true heritage with Devine gifts is something else she's taken on full tilt. It hasn't been easy but Rowan is gaining control and this book sees her taking on the Underworld too so buckle up for a ride that leaves the reader's head spinning.
I have yet to read a story by this author that isn't running at breakneck speed. Rowan was always the sister I most wanted to rise up and succeed and honestly her quick reactions to whatever gets thrown at her do not disappoint. I admit I always want more from the romance angle but sometimes there just doesn't seem to be enough time ! Still it's a rollicking read as always and full of imagination and of course the authors trade mark research.
This voluntary take is of an advance copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair

I started to read all of these books out of order but could still follow it, so even if you had not read the other related books its fine. I really liked this one, and also some of the others that are related. I highly recommend them.

Rowan & Maximus have to enter the Underworld to try & find Hecate. The Stryx worship her & a Seer has told them she will know their location & that of the three Titan's they helped escape Tartarus!!

I think 5 books is a bit too long for these series of books 😕Enjoyable enough though 👍

Groannnnn. That ENDING!

Seriously, that ending... It was SOOO cheesy! How was Hall even ABLE to write that anyway? It was just plain embarrassing! I mean, good job for finally suggesting Rowan was (also finally) about to get her some, but my GOD was it thick...and I don't mean his Hebrew National, if you know what I mean, either.

It was stupidly ridiculous, how the author made the titans to be a creature of full darkness that absorbed goodness and changed it into bad when two other titans (Atlas, who was actually Kronos' general and Prometheus) were the 'good cop' -_-. that just didn't make sense and i hate how she molded the Greek mythology to fit her stupid story. what a crap.

Recap:
Rowan was training in the Amazon's headquarter when the queens came, telling her that they found the seer named Tiresias who might know where the Stryx was and gave her the transport charm. Then she went on a date with Max, who told her the news from the Order that the dark magic in the world was increasing exponentially, upsetting the balance and causing humans and supernatural to tend to do more evil. Then Rowan told him about the seer and they went together using the transport charm they were given. They arrived to a forest that seemed dead and suddenly, they were being hunted by satyrs. They managed to subdue them and questioned one of them. He said that Tiresias was somewhere on the island across from that one and beware of trees, then they bound him.

They continued when they heard the whisper, asking for help, so of course Rowan had to help. When she touched the tree, she could feel two life force in it and using Hades' power, she sucked the tree's life force and saved a beautiful woman, Daphne, who was turned into tree to avoid Apollo from raping her. There was one more tree, Lotus, Daphne friend, who Rowan saved then she called for Ana to take the girls away to the protectorate. On the shore, they crossed the sea using Ladon's scale boat and arrived to a hut. Inside, they found Tiresias but he was dying so Rowan gave him her life force that she just took from the tree.

He woke up and interrogated her for asking for help. He said he agreed to help if the protectorate let him use their library for a day, then he borrowed her vision to find the answer. She was momentarily blind but she was desperate to see, so she moved to a wolf's body (via Artemis's power) and saw Tiresius did his work. When he was done, he told them that Hecate might know where the Stryx were but she lived in the Underworld. They returned back to the protectorate, told the others about this, summoned Nix who once went there, and Florian also help, finding the entrance.

Nix cleaned up a bit, then went to Hedy to help make a potion that made them seemed like a ghost and a bit of energy boost, then met with Nix who gave them coin to give to Charon and Max prepared the scuba diving equipment. Emily transported them to the lake where Hercules beat Hydra and they dived to its endless bottom, but the Hydra saw and attacked them. But one stab, and he backed off, then the portal took them to the Underworld. They found the river where Charon was napping and they paid him. On the way, the soul of the damned attacked Rowan, attracted to her darkness, but she tried to spread goodness and they backed off.

They arrived, welcomed by Cerberus, who almost realized that they were alived, so Rowan possessed him and told him to calm down. Then, they were taken to the judges of the Underworld and they were deemed worthy for Elesium. They talked to an old man there on how to reach Hecate's realm and he said that they had to have the key, from a dude name Aeacus, who would be dining with one of the judges somewhere in a mansion, and only Aeacus could use the key. They went there and the Menacing Menagerie came to help. Using the invisibility potion, they sneaked in, poisoned them, stole the key and some of their hair and sneaked out. They climbed to the gate, opened it, and they had to ride on a skeleton horse's carriage unless they wanted to walk on lava.

They arrived to some kind of a city and met Mordaca, who was there, looking for Aerdeca but didn't say anything more and refused a help. But she told them how to find Hecate, by going to some kind of cave and followed her symbols. They did and arrived to some kind of a ceremony of a cult, who used cloak and was chanting something. They tried to disguise themselves and blend in, but a cloaked figure snatched Rowan away and squeezed her neck, but Rowan simply stabbed him. Then suddenly, a purple flame bursted and Hecate came. She was scanning her admires when they noticed them.

She sent her phantoms to take them, but somehow, they both developed a power that allow them to fight back the phantoms. It angered Hecate so she called the phantoms back. Rowan taunted her for not answering her questions so Hecate offered a challenge to race across an acid lake (that she conjured) with a boat. Hecate threw them challenges like acid waves and thorny vines, but she easily conquered it and when Hecate almost won, Rowan stole her dogs, convincing them to help her. Hecate lost and agreed to answer questions, but she only did it because she was convinced that they wouldn't beat the titan, she liked the increasing darkness.

She said the Stryx were somewhere in a fortress on the island of Lektos, and there was a secret entrance, somewhere underground. They were also wrong about the Stryx because the one in charge was actually the titans, not the witches. After that, she refused to tell her more, and refused another challenge. Hecate asked her how did she overtook the dogs, and Rowan stupidly said that it was Artemis' power, the best power in the world. Of course she was offended and she was determined to kill them now. She sent them zombies, sea monsters, and hellhounds, chasing them outside, but Rowan lost the transport charm after some zombie grabbed at her. Outside, they met with Hades who was sitting on a throne in the middle of the road, and he stopped the time.

He was kind of disappointed that Rowan didn't embrace her dark magic and that she could've ruled beside him in the underworld, but of course she was a disgusting goody good girl, who then offended Hades too, but he just left. Then they stumbled upon Mordaca and Aerdeca, who was finished doing their shady business and together, they returned to their lair (wow, what a coincidence that Mordaca also had the hell transport charm), then they told them to return back to the empty protectorate, because everyone was on peacekeeping duty. They immediately told Jude about it and she ordered them to rest. The next morning they all reconciled, Jude already found the island and figured out a way to went underground with some kind of submarine with Caro as the pilot while the dragongods sister and their boyfriend were the one who would sneaked inside.

Lachlan made a potion that could weaken the gods while Hedy developed the strongest murder poison that would bind them and allowed them to send them back to Tartarus. Nix asked for the help of Nestor to guide them to the underground entrance. Of course there was trouble on the way, a great GREAT white shark chase Nestor, seeing him as a snack, so Rowan infiltrated his mind and convinced him not to eat Nestor. Near the island, the water grew murky and it was almost impossible to swim through so the sisters, all with water power, pushed through it until they arrived to some kind of cavern.

Caro would guard the vessel while the others must climbed straight up until they arrived to some kind of chambers with no exit except one hid by a boulder. Cade 'killed' whatever spell was guarding it and they went out to a courtyard where there were people, kind of like a cult in Hecate's place, chanting the titan's greatness. they kidnapped one and interrogate him, asking him where was the titans and what was their goals (world domination, of course). they tied him up and followed the direction he instructed them to, founding the titan's chamber and it seems like they were smoking and got a bit high.

So Rowan planned to poisoned their tobacco with the weakening potion while the Menacing Menagerie distracted the titans. After the titans smoked it, she and the others would throw the murdering spell and incant it to bind them. Of course the titans saw them (they were an idiot for seeing them so late, but couldn't blame them, the authors made them so), and Crius, Cronos, and Theia fought back. Suddenly, Rowan got another power from Apollo that allowed her to blast them with light and goodness, and it hasten the process but The Stryx heard the commotion and realized what happened, so they took the spells to themselves, allowing the titans to escape. But hey, at least they succeeded in killing the Stryx, weakening the titans, and took over their stronghold.

This is the fourth book in the five book Amazon series in the Dragons Gift universe. In this story Rowan our heroine with the help of her boyfriend Maximus continues her journey to develop and embrace her magical powers from the Greek gods while battling the Stryx witches and now three Titans. I have to give the author credit where credit is due. Her imagination, her ability to create characters, and challenges continues to amaze me. In this series with the three dragongod triplets she draws heavily upon mythology from the different cultures that once worshipped these gods. In Rowan’s case it’s the Greek gods so we get a lesson in Greek mythology while we read. But each heroine has had a unique personality all her own. Each heroine’s boyfriend while all big, strong, stunningly handsome (as all romantic heroes must be) also have unique powers. Cade, the Celtic War god, Lachlan the Arch Magnus shifter mage and now in this story Maximus the gladiator demigod who reminds me a lot of what a modern-day Hercules would be like. Her villains are just as unique although in this book they are borrowed straight from Greek mythology.
I might be the only one who feels this way but I do feel like the author does sometimes over do the challenges. For instance in this story Rowan and Maximus must travel to Hades/Hell to find the evil goddess Hectar to discover where the Stryx and Titans are hiding. It’s not enough that they must somehow imitate being dead to convince Caron to ferry them across the River Styx, convince Cerebus the three-headed monster dog that guards the gates of Hades to let them pass, face the three judges who will decide what level of Hades they will spend their eternity, find Hectar and get her to give up the information. Nope, the author has to throw in extra like stealing the keys to Hectar’s level of Hades from one of the judges, scaling an impossible mountain etc. IMHO just a little less would be more.
In this story Rowan and company must twice do battle with the Stryx and the Titans. Rowan continues to learn how to use her powers and discovers new ones. She and Maximus cement their relationship. Rowan learns to accept the darkness that lives with in her. So now it’s on to the final battle where Rowan must destroy the three Titans who escaped from Tartarus.

Action, adventure, romance, thrills, Linsey Hall’s Threat of Magic (Dragon's Gift: The Amazon Book 4) has it all, in one superbly written package. Yes, the Titans are free and dark magic is filling up the earth, causing violence and despair to spread through humanity. Don’t despair, however, as Rowan and Maximus (Max) are on the job. Read the publisher’s blurb on this one. Then go back to the blurb for book 1. If you find them appealing then start at book 1 and read forward. You’ll be delighted and addicted by the time you react this book 4 and will then find that this book quenches your addiction. Great stuff and a wonderfully great read. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend.

After reading and reviewing so many of this author’s books, I’m not sure what to say at this point which I haven’t already said. So, at the risk of repeating myself, this latest had great writing, wonderful characters, and an engrossing plot. One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about the books I’ve read by this author is the way they are just full of adventure and fun. You get to visit faraway places (sometimes very far away like the Greek Underworld in this one) and meet unique people all the while running with break-neck speeds towards or away from trouble. There was something in this book that makes me wonder if I know who is going to get the next series. I hope so! Anyway, give this book and this series a try; you’ll love Rowan and Maximus and the others! Highly recommend this book, and I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.

Awesome read

Well I almost feel like I have to hurry up with this review and get on to reading the last in the series
Everyone who has been in the series was there in this book, everyone including the cook busy saving the world and the energy in the book was impressive
Binge reading has been wonderful, a bit like finding a great Netflix show that has all the episodes so you don't feel like you have to wait a week
Having said that it has been hard not reading as the reason for not reading has been my eye sight and I can't do the audio book as the characters already have a voice in my head
I'd 100% recommend this series to anyone who loves adventures, magic and normals sharing a world, if you like challenges that make you read a page as fast as you can to feel the battles and enjoy the tension, right, off to the next book :)

They have to find the secret fortress of the Titans in the stryxs

Rowan and Maximus are off to hell to find the location of the Titans and the stryx. They have to go to hectates realm to find the answers and that's dangerous and perilous. Hectate challenges Rowan to a dual that if she wins she doesn't have to answer and makes them part of her crew but if she loses she has to answer the questions they have. She creates an acid lake with two barely floatable rafts and even gives Rowan oar to paddle across. The contest is rigged of course and Rowan has to use her skills and her gifts to win. hectave is a slow and resentful winner of nothing. But she gives the answers how to find the Titans knowing that they would never be able to bridge the protective charms around the island.

This, this was the book I was waiting for in the series - yes the others were fantastic, but this is the one where it all begins to come to a head and you start to work which threads of the story lead to which conclusion, and I love it!
I find Rowan an interesting character, she's faced so much and it's left it's mark on her in a way that makes her stand apart from her sisters. While her sisters faced many obstacles and trials, neither were so mentally and emotionally scarred as Rowan is, and the way that it's continuously had an effect on her and her acceptance of her new, developing magic, and how that's then provided another challenge for her... I do truly admire Rowan's continual growth.

Exciting

As a dragon fan, I have read every step of this saga from the beginning and although this journey has been a long one, I have enjoyed myself every step of the way, with every book it brings me closer to the end but with every word it makes me glad that the end is another book away.
With every character having a major part of the ongoing story we are left wondering who will we learn about next. Join the story anywhere, but the beginning is always best. Have fun guys I can't wait till the next one!! 😘

Liked the adventure, the characters, the magic, the action and that at each page there was something new and intriguing. Enjoyed the way the situations and challenges were developed with detailed descriptions and narrations that made run my imagination. Interesting and entertaining this story with protagonists that had struggled enough with their past and had emerged stronger and victorious. The skillful and fertile writing style of the author had kept my attention all the time enjoying the adventure.

Rowan’s Power Grows!

Book 4, Threat of Magic, in the Dragon’s Gift:Amazon series, by Linsey Hall, finds Rowan digging even deeper into her powers to fight the Titans, who want all of the power.

Linsey, once again, I am happy to say, creates a variety of magical worlds within her stories and crosses us back and forth and even under the sea with this one. Always creative, we stay on the edge of our seats watching Rowan, her sisters, and their friends fight the evil and darkness around them.

2.5 stars. I read these all back to back while not feeling well so one review and one rating for all.

Why 2.5? Man, I get that these stories are hero quests but, come on, this was just one challenge after another and another after another after another. The love interest had no drama - basically a nice hottie which is fine but not very interesting.

There are more books in the overall world that Hall has created but I'll be taking a break for now. Maybe they'll be more refreshing after a step away.

An adventure in Hell

3 Titans were set free from Tartarus by the Stryx. Rowan and Maximus must travel to Hell to get answers from Hectate. They need to find out where the Titans are hiding and fast because black magic is gaining ground and the Titans getting stronger. If they fail the world will be turned dark and everyone will fall to the Titans. This book is fast paced and I absolutely loved it.

Rowan is amazing. Conquering her powers and taking on the Titans! In the last book she attacked the Stryx and started draining them of their powers. In this book she travels to Hades with Maximus to confront Hecate, enters the minds of animals, and eventually takes on the Titans. She doesn't win because the series isn't over yet, but she strikes a major blow and gains more powers from the god Apollo this time. There's more to come and I can hardly wait.

I liked that the relationship between the main couple is a bit more mature in this one. Like still veeeeerryy light, but at least it's a bit different, and it actually makes sense considering their relationship. Anyway while the story is pretty predictable once you've read even one other series in this universe, I am enjoying these books the most so far, as they really feel a bit different, including the atmosphere.

Awesome!!

An excellent book with plenty of excitement, suspense and action. There is only one book left in Rowan's story and although I'm really looking forward to it, I am also sad because it means that the series is done. I love these books by Linsey Hall and am certain that everyone would enjoy them! Thanks, Linsey!!!

Another winner

I love Rowan’s series, it’s probably my favorite of the three. I always find myself laughing out loud at least once. This book was the same. Rowan’s inner monologue is always funny & her strength of character is good.

I’m excited since it seems like we’re going to get a book or series on Mordeca & Ardeca, which is something I’ve wanted forever!

Rowan and Maximus are still trying to defeat the Stryx, find the Titans and basically save the world and they will need help thank goodness for Rowans Sister's the Protectorate and all of their magical friends.

Threat of Magic was a wonderful, magical, adventure, it was fast-paced and full of history and wonder.

Too short

This story was decent, but at 200 pages it went too quickly and didn’t feel like a book in itself as part of a series but instead was more like a chapter in a series. The action was good, but I believe I could some typos and inconsistencies. The series also is a bit too PG rated as well.

I always find Linsey Hall's books to be intriguing and enjoyable. Every now and then, one is particularly good, but I always know I'm going to enjoy the book. Some stand out more than others, but in general, they are fun quick reads. I prefer her Shadow Guild and later works to these series, but they are still enjoyable.

Great story. Rowan's control over her magic continues to grow: especially her power over life-force. What, do you think that's a spoiler. Then you haven't read many of Linsey's stories. Read more.

I received a copy of this book as a gift. I am leaving my honest review.
