Maggie never had any intention of getting mixed up with the Bridal Pact, the Phaeton's, or all the crap that came with volunteering for the government's mail-order bride program. She was perfectly content inside her little bubble. She had her handmade jewelry business and her beloved rescue dog, and she was the honorary auntie to the cutest kid in existence. There is no way she was about to rock the boat by getting involved in any Phaeton business. None whatsoever.
Unfortunately, the Verge didn't get that memo. Thinking she knows more than she actually does about the recent attack on the Bridal Pact’s Intake Center, they took it upon themselves to tie her up as one of their loose ends. Literally. A glaring testament to her rotten luck.
A warrior who only wanted to right his wrongs....
Hix, a newly christened Verge warrior, realized he made a mistake the minute he left his Phaeton brothers behind when he defected. With regrets heavy in his chest, he tries to make the best of a bad situation while struggling with his new identity. Plans change, however, when he’s tricked into participating into the abduction of an innocent human female.
Enthralled with the raspy-voiced captive, Hix knows that he will do anything to keep her safe. Working to save not only themselves, but others, Hix and Maggie are unable to deny the chemistry between them.
As a firm believer in fate, Hix knows that they are exactly where they are supposed to be...now he must convince his future bride that she belongs with him.
Trigger Warning: This book contains the abuse and death of a pet dog. Although I tried to minimize the scene as much possible for my readers, the content may be too much for some. Please be advised.
Leora is a former snake milker that now enjoys the okayest job of balancing motherhood and writing contemporary romance. *Some with a sci fi twist*
A sucker for dirty talk, both the sexy kind and the type that leads to the discovery of new curse words, Leora catches all the craziness in her head on the cracked screen of her laptop. Squeezed into a small workspace in her Florida garage, this author uses her imagination *and cannabis* to explore the worlds she has created.
Her work has been praised extensively by her mother—who pinky promised to read the sexy parts with her eyes closed—and ignored by the rest of her family. Some critics have made compelling statements about her work such as “foul mouthed woman” and “nothing more than porn”. When asked for a comment regarding those reviews, the author’s answer was, “f$&% yeah!” with an enthusiastic nod and accompanying finger guns shooting in the air.

Leora Gonzales has easily convinced me that she is a damn good writer. Having just finished the last book of the series, I can easily recommend her alien/human romances. I've rated each book 4 or 5, so obviously I enjoyed her writing. Even more unbelievable to me is, I bought these books for $3.99 or $4.99! Since I'm on fixed income with little wiggle room in my spending. I've been known to leave a series that I've enjoyed mainly due to cost. I know that she self-published her books and I understand that she needs to make a profit. I love reading a good book, but I do have to make hard choices on my reading budget. That's my personal problem, so I'll end this soliliquey with recommending this series! Enjoy!
Again, this series is a really fun ride. This one had the kidnapped trope to it. I think it was handled fairly well. It never felt inappropriate. There was a scene with a dog that was a bit disturbing, but could have been much worse, so I appreciate the concern the author showed for her readers. *this is disclosed before the novel starts, but if you are reading it digitally, that page seems to be skipped. I'm glad I didn't miss it.* The overarching story really took off in this novel. I am excited for the next installment in the series.
The fifth book in the Warriors of Phaeton series by Leora Gonzales. Maggie is the best friend of Claudia (from Finch). Maggie is kidnapped by the Verge. Hix left the Phaeton for the Verge because his friend did. But almost right away he realized he made a bad mistake. He is involved in the kidnapping of Maggie but then rescues her.
Hunky, sexy warrior alien and sassy, independent human woman. He's one of the bad guys until he helps kidnap her. He doesn't understand why, nor does he agree with her treatment and what they plan to do with her. They escape and go on the run together on a pleasure planet. There is a lot of danger, a lot of sex, and not so much humor or romance. Very different from the other books in this series. Highly recommend.
Each book can be read as a standalone but I am having so much fun reading them in order and each epilogue starts the introduction to the next book. This one has more espionage feel to it though still a lot of shoot outs, rescues, snark, heat and an HEA this author is becoming one of my new favorites.
This was a good addition to this series. Hix is a sweetheart and I'm glad that he is getting a second chance. Maggie isn't as funny as Poppy and Pixie but I think that might have been too much for Hix. He might not know how to handle someone like that. Several Earth women have been kidnapped by the Verge and it looks like Rowe, Paine and Hix have the mission to rescue them. I look forward to the next book because I suspect that this won't be easy.
