Judith Berens is a figment of your imagination, made up of the fevered brainpower of Michael Anderle and Martha Carr, fueled by a lot of people helping them out - as well as all of you, The Fans. Great stories mixed with a lot of great readers equals more adventures to follow.
I enjoyed this much more than the first book Her Father’s Daughter, it might be because I was more familiar with the characters, but I felt the story was more coherent. I quite enjoy Alison’s ‘no messing around’ style, but I was hoping to see a bit more subtlety, at the moment she is just a magical version of her Dad. I thought Alison was smart, but this isn’t coming through in these books. I could also do with less of Alison and Hana gossiping about dating and men.
I really enjoy Alison and her friend Hana. It's like the immediate world wants to kill Alison Brownstone and in each book it's impossible to keep track of how many bad guys she kills, with her magic and her magical artifacts that help her along.
There was, again, no romance and the F-bomb was used 46 times.
As for the narration: You can't do better than Kate Rudd. She's one of the 5 best female narrators.
Book two really steps up in Alison Brownstone's life.
With a move to Seattle, from Washington DC, after Alison does something spectacular, in order to save hundreds of lives, she and her new friend, Hana Sagimuto, the sometimes 9-tailed fox, are gearing up to start building Alison's Security Firm, Brownstone Security LLC.
But, in between finding more staff, in the form of a very British Lady called Ava Garden, and Alison tentatively starting a relationship with a Bodyguard Magician, called Marcus, Alison is soon neck deep in taming the neighbourhood gangs, who are causing problems where she's going to be setting up her business - thus showing that she's very much a chip off the old block, and totally James, and Shay's Daughter'!
If that's not enough, after she takes on a job guarding a billionaire Techno-magician Entrepreneur, she's suddenly knee deep in assassins coming for her, first from Eastern Union, and then Jacobsen Associates!
Alison's new techno magician, ultra hacker, Tahir Arain, eventually traces the attacks back to a rival of the man she was guarding but, after much mayhem and madness, Tahir finds something out, that will have Alison searching deeply for answers.
Through everything that she's gone through, Alison is trying to adjust to a nasty virus that she was struck with, AMDS, one that, so far, has no cure, and is making the access to her magic grow ever weaker.
But, just when she feels that she'll never learn how she was infected, an ancient Oriceran Drow, called Myna, finds her, and vows to serve her until her own death.
How this will help, I don't know yet, but am eager to start book three: 'My Name Is Alison', to find out!
This book was a really great read, and I found it so hard to put down, when I had an unexpected visitor, but I have brought up my daughter to be as much of a book worm, as I am myself, so was able to get back to reading this, after we'd visited a while! Lol
So, now I've finished book two, I'm going to catch up on some sleep, then start book three fresh, later on, once I've woken again and, once I've finished it, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I thought of it!
I made the silly mistake of starting to read this in bed just after finally getting to bed around 01:00 - bad Peter. Here it is around 4 hours later having just finished the 2nd episode in Alison's adult life. So glad it's not a work day or else I'd have to be getting up about now. The action kept me turning the pages anxious to see what would happen next. As is typical of most (all?) of Judith's brownstone books I so wish the next one was here already.
Book one left me unsure about this series with the time jump and Magic virus storyline. Book two has definitely stepped up the game and now I am impatiently waiting for the next one.
The character development is coming along nicely with interesting new ones as well as bringing Alison forward from the teen in the School of Necessary Magic series into a grownup who has the “best” qualities of Brownstone and Shay as well as her own twist on Brownstonian grade destruction of enemies.
Another quality tale from the twisted minds of Anderle and Carr.
New elements are introduced as Alison further established both her company and her reputation in Seattle. Lots of kick-ass action, magic, a little romance, and heaps of laughs (and snickers, and smirks 😉).
In short, Alison is forging her own reputation and building a life for herself. It’s wonderful reading, and great for a laugh. Definitely a great continuation of Alison’s story.
Excellent second book in the series. I enjoy Allison and her new best bud. Please get rid of The AMDS. The storyline of the book is very interesting, Allison has a lot to learn and that’s part of life‘s journey. Awaiting the next book. If you like the brownstone books you will enjoy this series is well, even if you have not read the brownstone books read this series. Then read the brownstone books.
This story goes a little better than the last in that there's a bit more plot and a tiny bit more danger for Alison, but still nothing even remotely difficult for her to manage. She's not tested very much in these stories, so it gets a little tedious to read them, but there is an overarching villainous that's starting to develop so I'm hopeful there will be more conflict in the next story. Still too much language.
The title of my review says it all. I finished both this book and the first one in about a day each (Thanks to Audible!) Each book is about 7-8 hrs long (which is short compared to books in the GOT and Sword of Truth series), but there's a lot of good action and magic packed into them! I can't wait to see what happens next and to read more fro.these great authors!!
Love Allison's series so much! She is a full grown half drow half human who knows how to get things done. When she goes full Brownstone, she is awesome! She is meeting new people, well hello there Mason! She also gets to meet another drow! Will the drow be able to help her with her condition or is her hacker on the right path? I am heading to the next book to find out!!
This was a fun and entertaining story. (audible review) I like Alison and Hana.
There is lots of action and take no prisoner attitudes. They get things done. Lots of magic and different kinds of species makes it even more fun.
The narration is very good. I am a fan of Kate Rudd, she does a great job on all the voices, especially the male voices. She reads with emotion and has a great reading voice.
Alison is trying to get her business organized and a team together. People trying to kill her interferes with dates. However, she continues to kick butt and take names. I like the action, humor, and tentative romance. Her best friend Hana, is interesting. Will Alison find a way to deal with her AMS? I look forward to the next book.
And action-packed through ride through a magical world. This series along with all the other companion series in this magical world or extraordinary action-packed magical thrillers. Everyone of them is extraordinary and entertaining with crossover characters that are fun awesome and entertaining. Check them all out
I found this book much easier to follow than the first one, started to get invested in the characters, and have been up most of the night reading it. Definitely worth starting at book 1 and following Alison as she begins to start a security business and settle into her new home and city.
More reasons to read, another series to keep up with. Defiantly worth the effort and time for enjoyable experience. You are drawn into the world and characters with the previous stories of school. This series continues the saga in such a way that complements the whole.
Another great read. Alison gets in with enemies in a big way and takes care of business. Lots of action in this one as Alison begins to set up her business. A new character, an ancient Drow, is going to make the next book very interesting.
Great book in the continuing stories of Alison , Shay and Brownstone. These are some amazing characters and the stories are exciting and grab you and pull you into their world. If you haven't read them yet , give them a try. I'm betting you'll be hooked by them
Love that Alison is training Hana. Glad that Hana is looking Alison up and Alison is accepting. Glad Shay is in this story. Love the excitement, danger, and but kicking.
The plot thickens as Alison unravels more threads in the web of threat that surrounds her in Seattle. In true Brownstone fashion, she’s going to educate her enemies - it’s up to them whether it’s the easy way, or the “wind up dead” way.
This series meets my expectations every time Enjoyed Allison's school years , now enjoy the going adult Allison. Time to get revenge on those using her as a guinea pig to hurt her and other magicals.
It's like a freakin onion, you peel back one layer of a##holes and you find another layer of A##holes!
Alison is back with another dose of buttwhoopin! Your think that wormwood have reached the bad guy grapevine by now, you Don't mess with a Brownstone's ride!
Love the sgrowing up Alison!! Hana is a hoot and a boyfriend too boot. Someone is trying to kill her. An ancient Drow has shown up. Secrets come to light. Read to see what happens.
Very readable and good second story in the Alison Brownstone series. Kept me wanting to see what happens next. It is a story about magic, family and friendship and it is well worth the time to read it.
OK, I digress. The 2nd book in this series explains and helps clear up my confusion from book one. Alison is going to start actively looking for clues regarding her illness, and, of course, I hope she receives help. Now to start book three without delay.
Good story, engaging characters, life with magic and a true Brownstone tale. I want to see where the series will go, and the ancient drow should be an interesting addition.
Allison now is finding out the headaches of finding her path in the world and building a new business that suits her dreams. It shows how much of a brownstone she is, another good book in a great family series, and I mean the brownstone family.
I was hoping this book would have found it's footing but once again there felt like too much going on and the story dragged some. Towards the end the storyline starting getting interesting. The main character I don't find likable. She is way to cocky and I feel needs to be humbled.
I enjoyed this one a little more than Her father's Daughter. I love the character developement of Alison, her mother, and her friends. It was a quick read and while some of the language is course is a fun read. A good beach book, but careful if it a audio book not so good for little ears
Rating: 4 STARS Age: Pg-16 (has a little bad language)
-I really liked this book..it is very similar to another book that I read but I feel like this series offers something new. I can't wait to ready the rest of the series..I think it will even be better😁 Mrs.C 🤓
