Hello, my name is Eve Langlais and I am an International Bestselling author who loves to write hot romance, usually with werewolves, cyborgs or aliens .
I should warn you, I have a twisted imagination and a sarcastic sense of humor something I like to let loose in my writing. While well known for my shifter stories, I am also extremely partial to aliens, the kind who like to abduct humans and then drive them insane...with pleasure. Or do you like something a little darker, more serious? Then check out my cyborgs whose battle with humanity have captivated readers worldwide.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 💚🖤💙💜 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: ☹️🙃☺️😄 Narrator(s): 🎙🎙🎙🎙 Narration Type: Solo Narration
Caleb and Renny - Caleb is a crocodile shifter and has just returned to Bitten Point from his time in the military. He wants to make amends for leaving everyone in his life with nothing but a text saying he joined the military, then never reading or answering his mail. He now has PTSD after serving in a shifter unit under a callous leader who had them doing shady things. He is scarred from being burned, but the scars on the inside are the ones he can’t get over.
Renny left town after getting the text from Caleb and finding out she was pregnant. She wrote Caleb to let him know but he never responded so she was solely responsible for raising her son Luke. She returned to Bitten Point six months ago to care for her father who was ill. He has since died and she is now working multiple jobs to pay her bills.
Caleb finds out that he is a father soon after arriving in town and is determined that his son is not raised without a father like he was. He also wants Renny back, since he has never forgotten her and she is the only woman who he ever had feelings for.
The book is told in dual points of view via solo narration. I really dislike solo narration, especially if it is done by a female narrator, I am not quite sure why, but I just like male narrators better. This one was narrated by Chandra Skyye and she does a good job, she does a decent southern accent and is able to do different voices. Though I did dislike that she pronounced Caleb like Cal-eb instead of Cay-leb.
The story was good with multiple plot lines and I liked the mystery of why Caleb initially left Bitten Point the way he did, the beginning of the book made it sound like it had something to do with his crocodile and a bite. I do like different types of paranormal books like this, where the shifters aren’t your standard wolf or dragons.
I definitely missed EL’s trademark humor in this one. It was still a good read but the MCs didn’t stand out for me so much.
This is a second chance romance between Caleb, a gator shifter and his ex, Renny. Caleb is back in town after leaving abruptly five years ago. When he left, he made a clean break. AKA he cut all communication with everyone.
His return isn’t exactly a happy reunion. Renny especially is still carrying around a lot of anger and resentment over their break up. When he left, Renny discovered she was pregnant. Fast forward to the present and Renny has been a single parent to her four year old, Luke and struggling everyday to just stay afloat.
This trope usually comes with a guaranteed dose of angst but surprisingly Renny and Caleb don’t have any major hurdles to overcome before Caleb is back in Renny’s good graces. His absence is explained early on and Renny is able to forgive him and accept him back with little to no hiccups.
Overall both main characters were likable but again I wanted a bit more development. It felt like Renny was going to hold a grudge but that flopped early on. Caleb was a bit high handed with his sudden need to protect and provide for his family and Luke was sweet but we hardly get to know the boy. And at 4 years old, he was awfully articulate (-_-)
I wanted to love it but something was missing and I’m not sure exactly what “it” was. I enjoyed reading it but I can’t say it’s a memorable one. For a quickie its was okay.
*bounces around in shifter glee* We have a Crocodile shifter, ladies! I love me some grumbly croc shifter. Noms! Croc's Return was a fun little trip into the swamp lands of Bitten Point. A second chance romance, a surprise or two for both the hero and the heroine, something nefarious lurking around town. It was a good time, indeed.
The quick of it is that Caleb royally screwed the pooch a few years back. Left town and pretty much dropped everyone in his world like a hot potato--he had his reasons--to join the military. But now he's back, scarred in more ways than one, and ready to make amends. And oh the people around him...gonna give him one hell of a time. Not only that but somethings funky in town and shifters are being threatened by some unknown bad that's snatching them off the streets...
I loved Caleb. He's scared physically and mentally from his years in the military and he struggles with his inner beast and trusting himself. He was a good guy doing his best to fix all the hurt he caused years ago by disappearing. I loved his Crocodile self and his chats with his inner beast.
And Renny...I had my concerns about her but she turned out pretty great too. Once she realized there was a real threat lurking around she pulled up those big girl britches and got on board (for the most part) with playing things safe and dealing with the past in a pretty mature way.
I did like these two together. The romance is rather slow and there's very little actual heat since they were dealing with all those grrrargs from the past but the chemistry between them sparkled and there were a couple hot scenes.
There's a bit of mystery with a real funky big bad that added some nice suspense and led to Caleb coming to terms with his inner Crocodile. It was curious and while the threat was eliminated it looks like there will be some carry over into the next book with who was behind the big bad. Definitely has me interested to see what'll happen next.
Overall, Croc's Return was another win for Langlais. It's not as laugh out loud funny as some of her reads but it's got a little quirk, sassy fierce characters and a dose of curious suspense that'll keep me coming back for more. Nicely done.
My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.
This is the first book in a new series by Eve Langlais. It is sort of a spin off of the Kodiak Point series. However, unlike some other spinoffs that I’ve read, you can read this one without having read Kodiak Point (though I highly recommend Kodiak Point, one of my favorite series by Eve). Basically, Bitten Point is a shifter friendly town, just like Kodiak Point. Our hero, Caleb, is just coming back from the same army installment that the Kodiak Point guys were in.
Anyway, Caleb is a croc shifter and is just coming back into town after being away at the war. He had left town totally unexpectedly. No one knew why he left and joined the army. It really upset his mother, brother and also his girlfriend. HIs pregnant girlfriend. Now it is five years later and his son is four years old and has no idea who his father is.
Renny hasn’t had it easy since Caleb left her with a child. She is working two jobs to afford to pay all the bills. Four-year-old Luke doesn’t understand why mom is never around. He gets angry with her. He also has a bit of animalistic side to him that he got from his father.
There is also some suspense going on in this story. People are going missing. The children are reporting seeing a dinosaur. The shifters are smelling things they’ve never smelled before. We learn more about why Caleb up and left out of nowhere to join the army. It was exactly what I expected from a Eve Langlais story. It was fun, sexy and had some suspense to it as well. I love how Eve isn’t afraid to use animal shifters that aren’t the norm. Caleb’s brother is a snake shifter (one takes after mom and the other takes after dad). I hope he gets a book in this series.
Narration Chandra Skyye is a narrator that I’ve listened to before with the Kodiak Point series. At first, I wasn’t a huge fan of her narration, but she has grown on me. While she will never be on my list as a top narration, I’ve come to be able to enjoy her narrations enough. In this story, we see her ability to add children into the mix, which I thought she did a pretty decent job. I do listen to her at an increased speed.
If you enjoy shifters, you've got to love a croc, right? Croc's Return is well done, especially because the croc himself isn't all that sure about what went down before he left Bitten Point a few years ago. All Caleb knows is that he wants to come back home, and if he'll see Renny, that might just make things better. That is until he learns that Renny has a child. And that she works in a strip-club to make ends meet because her son's father didn't step up. Caleb swears he'll find that man and show him his crocs for not being good to Renny and leaving a child without a dad...
There are some great interactions between Caleb and his brother Constantine, and between Caleb and his best friend Darryl. The best interactions are between Caleb and Renny, though, because they're both a little defensive, afraid of getting hurt by the love they shared before Caleb left everything and everyone behind. Croc's Return is about redemption and love, and I really enjoyed getting to know the characters that inhabit Bitten Point. There is a nice mystery going on as well, with Luke and some of the other children stating there's a dinosaur on the loose. And when Caleb gets recruited as a security guard, he also gets the inside scoop on a weird hybrid that seems to be the same as the thing trying to snatch his son!
I already know I want to continue to listen to the Bitten Point series, because Chandra Skyve narrated it very well. The storyline and the plot really worked for me, and there was enough character development to make the plot and the storyline move forward very nicely!
"You know you're a dickhead, right?" "Biggest dick around..." "Not according to the ladies..." and that was that.
I'm not usually a croc shifter reader (much prefer dragons or bears) but I enjoyed this one. Crocs seem to work well in the South so I enjoyed this shifter romance. Plenty of sizzling scenes to please any reader with a little more depth than the normal shifter romance. Sure, there's humor but it's a solid story with a strong plot.
Croc’s Return is book one in the Bitten Point series by Eve Langlais. Coming home brings with it a few surprise for our hero and heroine, a second chance at romance, and a mystery to solve.
To start I’ve never read a reptile shifter story before. It was different, unique, and enjoyable. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the different kind of shifter.
Caleb I loved him. I couldn’t understand why he left town, but as you read on you learn what haunts him and why he did what he did. Should he have left, no, but then we wouldn’t have our tortured hero. He’s a good guy trying to fix all the hurt he caused when he disappeared leaving behind his family and the one women he loved. I also really enjoyed his croc and the chats he had with his beast side.
Renny, she’s a strong women and I enjoyed her. She dealt with the past well and when a threat comes around she gets on board with being safe.
These two worked well together. The romance is slow at first, but they have a lot to deal with from the past. Once they get over that the chemistry sparked and we are treated to some hot scenes. I also liked the development and introduction to other characters in the town of Bitten Point. The little mystery surrounding the town and swamp lands, which brings a few surprises and helped Caleb come to terms with his croc was enjoyable. The mystery does not fully wrap up and looks like it will be carried on into the next book, so I am a we bit interested to see what’ll happen next.
Croc’s Return has some suspense, a sweet second chance at love, and some great surprises. I quit enjoyed the reptile shifter aspect and am looking forward to continuing this series.
Kodiak Point was a great blend of paranormal romance, light comedy, and suspense. I was all on board for this associated series with more of the same just shifters of the southern variety. Definitely ready for some fun on the bayou.
Croc's Return opens with crocodile shifter, Caleb, returning to his home after many years away. He has some groveling to do all around since he cut off contact with everyone and stayed away for reasons he couldn't ever explain. He's barely holding it together and that's before he learns he's got a son and his teenage love and son are in grave danger.
This was no light and fluffy story, though yes, the bantering and wise cracks were pretty funny. Caleb and his brother take swipes at each other and also Caleb and his old high school nemesis, Wes. But the big blazing issue is with his first and only love, Remy. Caleb and Renny have a chance to repair what was broken between them. She's hostile at first, but mostly afraid because she never got over him in spite of his apparent betrayal.
I enjoyed how the author balanced the action-suspense side of the story, the repairing relationships, and the sizzling passion. The shifter world of Bitten Point is another small town setting with a few characters introduced though much of the story focuses on Caleb.
I'm looking forward to more from the series and getting that mystery solved that was introduced in this one. And yep, more of Constantine's killer chihuahua. What a hoot that dog was. I can easily recommend the series to paranormal romance fans.
Caleb and Renny. They were young and in love when he suddenly ups and joins the navy with no warning to anyone. Renny finds out she is pregnant shortly after he leaves and sends him letters but he doesn't read them. Pretty unforgiveable huh? Well he does have a good reason, and there's that whole 'young and stupid' thing going on. Now, 5 or so years later he is back after surviving being captured by pretty despicable villain. He's suffering PTSD pretty bad and still hasn't addressed the issues that made him leave in the first place. Pretty pathetic character? Well I did end up liking him, but I can't say as he was very romantic. SOoo he has to convince his family he isn't a jerk, and Renny and his son... All while fighting a strange threatening beast that hunts the town citizens, including his son. There's also the problem of the pharmaceutical company that has been doing some pretty sketchy research using shifter blood.... This one had too many things going on and the romance between Renny and Caleb got kinda lost. I didn't really care about the mystery. Thought Renny shoulda hooked up with someone else while he was gone.
An absentee dad, a secret kid, a conspiracy, a dinosaur child-nabber and a Croc hungering for the mate hw left behind: This was a fun litte book, but I still prefer the more cuddly shifters over the cold-blooded ones. Who wants to snuggle up to a Croc?
...Although, they would be my clean -up crew of choice, should I ever decide to go on a killing spree:
Even cold-blooded predators didn’t eat family. Okay, so maybe some did, but apparently no one ever proved that leaked cookbook belonged to the Mercers and that Aunt Tanya’s rump roast was anything more than it seemed.
I was scrolling through Hoopla looking for an audiobook to listen to while I was doing meal prep for the week... and I wanted something different. So I thought, hey, crocodile shapeshifter! I haven't read one of those before. The story had a nice steady pace that helped the time go by as I was stuck in the kitchen all day.
Our crocodile shifter is Caleb, who left Bitten Point, Florida for the military five years ago without an explanation to anyone. Now that the prodigal son has returned to Bitten Point, he is not receiving a warm welcome from family or friends, and especially not from his ex, Renny. He is going to have to work hard if he wants to make amends to his friends and loved ones. Caleb has a bit of a tortured hero vibe going on. He keeps his beast leashed tight because he is afraid to let him out. He is also dealing with some issues that occurred during his time in the military, which resulted in him having both mental and physical scars. I am not exactly sure what the story is on that... maybe I glossed over it while cooking, or maybe it wasn't there. I can't say. I did like Caleb and his willingness to step up to the plate and take care of his responsibilities. I didn't like that he was so judgmental when it came to Wes Mercer, a bull gator.
Renny, hurt and bewildered by Caleb's desertion of her via a text message, left town soon after he did. She has only recently come back herself, with a five year old son in tow. She is determined to keep Caleb at arm's length, but quickly discovers that old habits die hard. When it appears her son is in danger, Remy relies on Caleb to keep them safe. Once they are in the same proximity, it is apparent that the attraction and feelings are still there and things start heating up. I liked that Renny didn't relentlessly push Caleb away, despite old hurts. While she wasn't a shifter, she was definitely a mama bear when it came to her son. But when danger comes, she doesn't run off half-cocked and make things worse. That's always a plus in my book.
The suspense was quite good if not quite original. I have read man-made and mutant shifter stories before, but the unique quality in this series is going to be the types of shifters we have. Crocs, and gators and dinosaurs definitely outside the norm. I'm not sure how I feel about the reptile shifters. They don't have the warm animal magnetism of the big cats and wolves. But I'm not ready to give up yet. I'm interested to see how Wes, the big bull gator, is going to come across in his story.
This was utterly boring and I'm so surprised! Honestly I expected more from Eve Langlais, IDK what's going on but the characters are utterly boring, and stubborn.
Caleb left for some unknown reason into the military and left his croc shifting family behind. And his girlfriend Renny. What he didn't know is he left her behind pregnant, and Renny is a bit resentful.
I found her behavior reguarding Caleb seeing their son Luke and interacting with him annoying. He left once and everyone treats him like he bailed all the time. Yea he didn't write or contact them, but it really seems like he had a reason and seemingly out of the blue and no one questions this?
Renny sends Caleb letters about her impending pregnancy, he never reads them but she thinks he doesn't care...naturally.
Renny is just infuriating she does stuff that is so irrational. I was bored to tears. The story is a constant tug-o-war over Renny and Caleb apologizing. She's just too annoying for words. I tried to pick it back up again but she only pissed me off.
I really wanted to like this series, I thought the concept of crocodile shifters to be super cool. There is also a mystery element to this that looks to span the series. However I found myself MORE interesting in Renny's bff (yea I forgot her name because it's been a few weeks since I read in this book) and that bad boy thief turned head security guard due to her husband being a prick that I think is having an affair. Anyways it doesn't look like they get a book yet, I may try it just for them idk. And maybe I'll try this one again, but I doubt it. The heroine is just too annoying to get past and Caleb is so not ok from where he was that he doesn't know how to open up, plus the threat isn't dead so there is that.
I tried, I always try I rarely DNF books but i just can't.
Conspiracy and the stupidity wrought by youth both feature strongly in this story by Eve Langlais. I was entertained and realized that this is a book from a very prolific author. She has to write quickly to put out as much material as she does.
I thought the idea of a shifter community with so many varieties of shifter, including crocodile and alligator was unusual. And, there was comic relief in a big, scary shifter’s pet as well as the attempts by a young couple to find a little privacy to be alone in a cramped extended-family living situation.
I really liked Caleb’s instant devotion to his son. That is always nice to see and Eve did a great job with that. And, there’s a great twist in how his situation came to be.
There’s a dark side — with all that swamp and bayou there has to be. And, I have a feeling the conspiracy is what drives the series. The world building could be a little more developed, but I think as a shifter series without a lot of gravitas, it won’t be too extensive.
3.5 Stars! (spoilers) I did enjoy this book, as I usually do with anything that Eve Langlais writes, but I guess I was wanting a little more and felt that it was a story already done. Mutant (man-made) shifters, unsolved mystery that will carry onto next book (possibly the rest in the series), it had a FUC series feel to it and was a bit predictable in my opinion. Not as much humour as in previous books, though princess the evil dog got me smiling. It's a spin off from the Kodiak Point Series and you don't need to have read them to enjoy this story. I liked Caleb and his croc, though once we found out the reason why he left it was hard to believe that he didn't question things more. Thought Renny was very understanding seeing as how Caleb never read her letters, she did the best she could considering her circumstances. Overall it was a good easy read, probably will see what the next one is like as the secondary characters were interesting.
I needed something to “take me away” from the stresses of my life and this book did it. It wasn’t great and it wasn’t awful. Croc’s Return is a good shifter romance when you need some escapism. The author started the story off really quick and it didn’t let up until the end.
It is a fast listen and its keeps you engaged by not having too many unnecessary scenes. I also liked that once the Caleb and Renny accepted their attraction the author didn’t throw in stupid conflicts to keep them apart. They tackled the final climax of the mystery together and that was enjoyable.
I try not to criticize narrator’s too much but this one bothered me something fierce. She pronounced “Caleb” like “Cowlub” throughout the book and it drove me nuts. I sometime also got the feeling like the voice could have computer generated like you see on those YouTube videos. I liked the story but it took me a long time to adjust to this narrator.
The H spent a lot of time in his head thinking about how sorry he was for leaving town and everyone in it without an explanation. But he came back without any apologizes or explanations. At around the 50% mark he actually asks his brother how many times he has to say he's sorry. Up to that point he hadn't said sorry to a single person, not even the h who he left with a 'dear john' TEXT! That seemed to bother me much more than the her since in under 24 hrs of being home he had her in bed. I can't imagine being pregnant, dumped by text, left to cope on my own for years and then just falling into bed with the guy that did it without a SERIOUSLY good explanation & apology.
The writing was good, I just didn't like either of the main characters, so I will read more of the series and hope for more likeable MCs.
This was a big old meh for me and then it got annoying. So Caleb is a crocodile shifter who joins the military so he wouldn't lose control and hurt someone he cares about. He comes home hoping to make peace with everyone especially Renny, the girl he left behind. Renny had a child while Caleb was away and since he never answered her letters she just assumed he didn't care...which is not the case.
There was nothing really special or intriguing about this story or the characters and I was kinda bored with it. Then Renn, who wants Caleb back decides that maybe making out with a jerk at a family picnic is a good way to deal with her feelings for Caleb. It was just out of nowhere and stupid and gave me the excuse I needed to stop reading.
Caleb returns home from the military and finds out that he has a son with his ex-girlfriend who he still has feelings for. Caleb left Renny without a backwards glance even though she wrote him and told him about their son, he never wrote back to her because he didn't read the letters. I could also understand why he felt like he couldn't control the animal inside him and the only choice to keep everyone safe from him was for him to leave. This is where a little communication could have gone a long way.
Then there's the mysterious creature putting people in harms way and he will do what he must in order to keep his son and Renny safe. Caleb finds out that this isn't the first time a creature is suspected of kidnapping people and possibly killing them so he's not taking any chances with his family now that he's getting close to his son.
There are a couple of great twists and some secrets come to light, all while Renny and Caleb are trying to get to know one another again and Caleb's family are getting to know Luke, Caleb's son.
I loved some of the secondary characters like Wes who is quick to put his trust in Caleb even though they really aren't friends. But my favorite character in this book was Princess, the Chihuahua. That dog cracked me up. I look forward to reading more of this series and getting to know more of these characters.
Shifters, a reunion lover with son, and good intentions make this humorous romance a romping good time. Caleb is back in Bitten Point after being blackmailed into serving in the military. He doesn't trust himself or his beast. But they must come to terms when danger threatens his son.
At times laugh out loud humor, some bitter love and even a bit of smoking hot sex, this book is highly entertaining and hugely recommended First in a series.
This is my first Eve Langlais book. I was intrigued by the idea of a croc shifter. I liked the secret baby was not really a secret. Renny contacted Caleb, but he was too hard-headed to read the letters she sent him. The reason that he abruptly left was revealed without too much fanfare. I could understand why he felt he had to leave. I like how Renny and Caleb worked through the miscommunications. Overall, this was enjoyable and the mystery added to it.
This book goes at a breakneck pace that involves a whole lot a fast capitulation and token protest. Character development leaves something to be desired. If you like a tough alpha hero, this one ain't; and the heroine's backbone melts in record time. The editing is good. I have read Langlais' books before, but this isn't one of her better ones. Meh.
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a good job. This was a quick, low angst story that kept me entertained. While each book is about a separate couple this series has a continuation storyline arc.
Really he is a crocodile shifter who is returning home after being deployed. He's got PTSD but has to overcome it to prove he is the man for his family that he didn't know he had.
