That was the promise Estelle's cousin demanded, before he shot himself.
Because of his sacrifice, she had enough food to get her boat to land, even if on a deserted island. Because of her promise, she learned to survive, enduring for years under the unforgiving sun. But when an Islander refugee and a handsome warrior appear and Estelle's new world shatters, she has to face the demons of her past: her marooning–and thus, her cousin's death–were arranged.
By her own family.
Survival isn't enough, not now. Now, Estelle wants vengeance.
No matter what lines she has to cross along the way.
This book was recommended to me by someone who is familiar with the genres I normally read and, who also knew that this was not one. I am glad they did.
Mr. Haulsee has combined fantasy, a superheroine, humanity and (believe it or not) some realism into a really fun read. His writing style shows a flair for character development that is not often seen in new authors and is compelling in its constant action.
Estelle is a young girl who is shipwrecked on a deserted island and later on is joined by Kui when she saves his life. The two save each other’s lives many times after that and Estelle gradually morphs into our heroine. As the story moves on there are many twists and, the ending is a complete surprise.
Again, not my normal read, however, I was happy to also learn at the end that we will be seeing a sequel.
Action packed.... easy reading... held my interest from start to finish! The characters are well developed, the plot has plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.... and I am definitely on the hook waiting for the next one in the series!
