With a backlog of cold cases to investigate and attempting to uncover who is behind a professional vendetta against her, Kay must keep one step ahead of both the killer and her own adversaries. When a second murder takes place within a week of the first, she realises the killer’s timetable has changed, and she’s running out of time to stop him… One to Watch Sophie Whittaker shared a terrifying secret. SCARED TO DEATH Parents were on a holiday, when a call saying they had their daughter, the ransom was paid, but daughter.was dead when they got there. Father collapsed and died on way to hospital. Ransom amount was low compared to wealth they had. Then finding out at school. Bullying was going on and no complaints filed, but how desperate would one go to stop it. Wondering who else Melanie was bullying and glad she wasn’t coming back. No one knew that. Ian’s had a daughter Emma and was now taken, a daughter that had been stranger to him, since a divorce. This time the police are involved would it be in time. The plot flows with tension and the fear is realized . Of not knowing where she would be at. First I have read by her and was very pleased with how this was portrayed, the soft touch came with her and Adam. WILL TO LIVE Walking her dog in a wooded area by her home, she turned to go home, he started tugging at the leash. She then heard a man voice ‘help me”. unable to get over the fence that guards the tracks. As police investigate, the man’s ankles had been tied. As they sift for clues.the men are unemployed, depressed and loners. The motive of the killer,,he didn’t believe the verdict, and decided to take matters into his own hands. As for Kay, the pet at home is a very pregnant dog, with Adam being a vet, thought it best to watch her. She needs another glass of wine when her Mom calls, they will stop for dinner on their way home. Good characters, and one likes the individual work of team of what they are doing, then bringing it forward at the meetings. The plot keeps you to the end., ONE TO WATCH A lavish engagement party and intended teenage girl is murdered What follows for Detective Kay and the team, is a twisted trail, of so many things. How could a young girl be involved, and agree to a marriage when only sixteen. A social position, a house needed repair, the church that was having this special ceremony, the list goes on. It will keep you to the end , trying to figure out who to blame. Many were involved, but who was the killer. Good three book set, that will keep you to the end figuring it out.
These books have all the requirements for a great who-done-it. I like the fact that the key character, Kay, is a mid-level Detective Sargent. Great tie in to her family life and believable back story. The cases are detailed and there are great plot twists to keep you guessing right up to the end.
Great stories, and now on to the next book in the series.
The personalities in these stories were believable, the incidents were described graphically and realistically and the detectives' progress towards solutions illustrated how tiny details can radically impact the way a case develops.
Unlike many thrillers, these books did not include constant over-indulgence in bad language, nor was the unfolding of the case a non-stop set of cliff-hangers. The interaction between police personnel, support staff and the public was, for the most part, totally credible.
These were my first books by Rachel Amphlett and I have thought enjoyed them. So much that I had to continue through the set. I found the pace right and twists and turns kept guessing on final outcome of each book. I also like the continuing theme running through them and look forward to the next one. I will also be looking at the other books she has written.
I really enjoyed these books. I found them to be well written and well paced. The plots were very intelligent, and the characters were engaging. The books kept me up reading way past my normal bed time. I am looking forward to continuing with this series and following on with the adventures of Kay Hunter.
I've read a few Rachel Amphlett books and I haven't found one I don't like. The Detective May Hunter boxset is a great binge-read. Just the type of book I really enjoy, each book leads to the next. Brilliant!
I wanted something new to read and boy did I get that with this series of books.. Kay Hunter is a detective sergeant who is very good at her job. We have thread stories of violent deaths with several suspects. They keep you guessing right to the end. Whilst investigating these crimes Kay is also looking into who has it in for her. She's been reported for something she didn't do. Who has set her up? Who can she trust? Rachel has strong characters in her books both make and female. I love her relationship with her partner. These books are a must read. I intend to read more.
I’m determined not to binge read her books but once I start I can’t put them down. Multi layered with sub plots that are both long and short. Certainly not as gruesome as some authors but crime is crime and done by deranged and desperate. I like her main characters and the ones you love to hate you really hate. Now if I can only put off the next book for a while and make the the good feeling I get from these books last ...
I thoroughly enjoyed the storylines and the underlying ongoing line in respect of Kay's "set-up ". The one area of the books I felt was a little disappointing was lack of local area knowledge - at times it was difficult to determine if I was reading a book set in the UK or America; as I personally enjoy reading a book that can relate to a local area and allow me to imagine more vividly the landscape.
WOW Such brilliant reads. I love the mixture of characters and the suspense that makes you wanting to keep reading. What a great idea putting the three books together, so easy to keep reading onto the next book. Kay Hunter has made me a big fan. I will now read them all. Still much to find out that keeps you turning the pages. A big thank you to Rachel Amplett. Highly recommended reads.
Really great series, featuring Kay Hunter. The series had me enthralled from the very first page and had me binge reading until the thrilling end. Kay Hunter doesnt give up looking for justice, she has also just recently returned to her position after being suspended. Somebody close has set her up to take the fall for missing evidence. Highly recommend.
Fun to read especially since is set in England: Differences in law, police procedures, residential settings, and a sharp female detective. Love the ongoing mystery...spoiler alert!
Really enjoyed reading the first three books in the Kay Hunter series. The characters were well drawn and the stories were fresh. I read several books a week and I would like to read more in this series.
I enjoyed reading this series, especially the third book. The ending was a surprise and unexpected. I do need to know who is trying to frame Kate - must be something about her that we don't know.
There were parts amongst these three stories which were quite mundane and slow. Long periods of very little occuring, but overall satisfying without being exciting.
I enjoyed the back and forth between everyone. The development of the characters keeps you thinking and you want to know what's next. On to the next one!
. Kay Hunter is a force to be reckoned with, love her character kept me up half the night couldn't put it down. Brilliant books scary and well plotted loved them
I really enjoyed these books. Looking forward to starting the next one.. Easy to read and struggle to put them down. Can really relate to the characters
