Massachusetts State Trooper Ross Huber is giving one last sweep of the roads before heading in for the night. The nor’easter hitting the Boston area is worse than expected by an order of magnitude, and the governor has just issued a travel ban. Ross finds a wrecked car half-buried in a snowbank and rescues its human and canine occupants from carbon monoxide poisoning, but is forced to take shelter with them in a vacant or abandoned house when the roads are blocked.
When he gets the victims indoors, he thinks the human looks uncomfortably familiar ...
Ash Machado has been through a lot in his career as a war correspondent. Sidelined by an injury, he’s returned to Boston to take up a job as a news anchor. After he loses control of his car on an icy road, he wakes up in an unfamiliar home, looking into the face of the guy who broke his heart in college.
Neither Ross nor Ash are the same men they used to be, but now they’re trapped in the abandoned house with no place to go. Can they get past old hurts long enough to get through the storm, or will the same misunderstandings that drove them apart years ago make this confinement unbearable?
J J. V. Speyer writes LGBTQ+ romance novels heavily flavored with suspense, mystery, and adventure. She has lived in upstate New York and rural Catalonia before making the greater Boston, Massachusetts area her permanent home. She currently lives just south of Boston in a house old enough to remember when her town was a tavern community with a farming problem.
J. V. finds most of her inspiration from music. Her tastes run the gamut from traditional to industrial and back again. When not writing she is a baseball fan, a hockey mom, and a devotee of all things weird and creepy about New England.
Totally unprepared for the snow storm, Ash drives to his new job. Or at least, he tries to. He runs his car off the road and is found by Ross. The same Ross who broke his heart in college. But Ross doesn't recognise Ash straight away, although he thinks him familiar. When the penny finally drops, all the heartbreak that both suffered all those years ago comes rushing back, along with the intense chemistry they had. Can they survive the monster storm? Could they try again?
I REALLY enjoyed this! It was a great easy read, and I mean that in a good way!
Sometimes, you just need a book that isn't too complicate, not to taxing on the old brain. A book that throws enough hints at you that you know there was something that happened, but you aren't sure what. A book that pulls you in, and doesn't let you in for the next hour or so, the 90 pages that this book is.
Ash knows his rescuer straight away but it takes time for Ross to know it's Ash. But Ross hasn't seen Ash since college, and Ash has been dropping into Ross' social media from time to time, cos he's a sucker for punishment.
What I particularly liked about this book, was how much BOTH men were affected by what happened all those years ago. For very different reasons. But they are different men now. I'm not going into spoiler, really I'm not, but it's great reading the same situation from both sides, and seeing both of them realise just what could have been.
It's not overly explicit but that's not needed here. The whole book takes place over a matter of HOURS so there really isn't a lot of hot and steamy stuff. It is sexy though, what's here.
I just FELL into this book and I really REALLY enjoyed it!
Ah sod it! I wrote 4 stars at the top of the page when I wrote this review, but now I'm typing it up? Can't figure out a single reason why!
Snowed In: Ross and Ashton, by JV Speyer, is a fun second chance romance.
Two exes, Ross and Ashton, are reunited by a snow storm. Stuck together, they have no choice but to face the issues that pulled them apart, monogamy and coming out. There are confessions and explanations and a whole lot of tension.
I enjoyed this story a lot. The reason they broke up makes sense, as they were at a standstill with their different opinions. Both needed something the other couldn't give and the resentment still lingers. Now it's all about the anger, as neither can forgive the other. As they have no where to run, they scream and discuss their issues. The passion is still there, and it's going to take them a whole lot to get their happy ending.
I highly recommend Snowed In for anyone who is looking for an intense, tension full tale.
Sometimes reunions are all about the joy of finding “the one who got away” or the angst of “do we still have a chance” or the drama of seeing each other again, but in Ross and Ashton’s case, it is mostly about the residual anger. The intensity of their feelings is strong enough for both of them that it is clear they need to deal with them – one way or another. But they are stubborn, full of pride, and neither one can see the other’s side because they are too convinced that they are right. It’s a huge emotional mess and, since they have nowhere to go due to the weather, they have to find a way to deal with the situation.
Ash and Ross dated in college, but they went their separate ways when they couldn’t agree on the terms of their relationship. Ash wanted monogamy, while Ross wanted an open relationship, and Ross wanted Ash to come out, but he refused, with good reason. When the two men meet again and get snowed in together will they be able to make romance work this time around?
I loved the premise of the story, but the execution was flawed. First, Ross was a complete and utter ass throughout most of the story. No matter how many times Ash tried to explain what drove him to accept the open relationship in college, the fear of losing the man he loved, and his valid fears for not coming out, Ross was stuck on stupid. He just kept arguing that Ash had agreed to the open relationship. Yes, and he told you why. Geeze, get some Q-tips and clean out your ears, asshole! I wanted to throat punch Ross so many times!
What really didn’t work was, as I said, that they fought pretty much the entire time they were stranded, so they didn’t get the chance to really talk, to get to know one another again and reconnect, so them ending up together, even if it is just a HFN, wasn’t all that believable. I wish the author had cut out some of the arguing and let them talk calmly without screaming at one another.
The story was a good start, but it needed more substance, in my opinion. The ending was too abrupt. Still, this was a quick and easy, somewhat enjoyable read.

We have two guys (exes of course) who accidentally find themselves stranded together in the middle of blizzard. Ashton is just recovering from serious injury and almost ends up dead in a snowdrift. He is not thrilled to find out the guy who rescued him is his college ex, the one he hasn’t been able to forget and the one he might still be in love with.
Ross doesn’t recognize Ashton at first, but sparks fly once he realizes who is with him. It’s a pretty short story, but packs a lot. The guys and their previous relationship are finely crafted. It’s what I liked most of the book because it gave them depth: they broke up years ago. They both had valid reasons for their decision. It’s not black or white situation, and neither of them is right or wrong. Sure, they were young, but their relationship didn’t implode because they didn’t know what they wanted. They still held same convictions, but life intervened in the meantime, and they and their goals changed. Now they have better chance to work it out, under condition that they actually admit to each other they want it. Naturally, there is a happy end, and I liked the way the story was constructed.
My only regret is that that there wasn’t more and I love to take a peek to see how their story further develops!

This was a cute story about second chances, and I loved it. Sitting at home with it snowing outside, I felt as if I was right there with Ross and Ash. It kinda made me twice as cold, to be truthful. I needed things between the two men to be OK, and well, being stuck together inside that house wasn’t helping.
Ross was a cute character with an open mind that caught up to him in college but has since smartened up.
Ash was a character who knew what he wanted and what was best for him even if it hurt him having to move on; I really liked him. The places he went to for his work sounded both scary and eventful; it takes guts to face danger in the line of getting news to the world.
I love Porthos; that pup helped make this story so good. He was sweet and so protective of Ash that I wanted to sit and pet him for hours.
This story was both similar to, and so different from, the first book by JV that I read not too long ago. But even with those differences I found I loved both a lot and I can’t wait to be able to pick up another book by JV soon as possible.

Ross is a state trooper out doing a last sweep for stranded people out it the blizzard. The Governor had declared a state of emergency and all travel banned. Nobody was meant to be out in the snow storm, but it was his job just to check for stranded motorists. On his way back to base he came across a car, jumping out he found the car running but the tail pipe was stuck in a snow bank. Inside was a male and dog both looking like they were asleep. He smashed into the car and managed to get both out and to his truck before calling it in.
The dispatcher said that further down the road it was blocked by a fallen tree, but directed them to an abandoned house to take refuge in. Again he managed to get both into the house where luckily it still had electricity and running water. He kept looking at the man thinking he was vaguely familiar. From here on in is where the book starts getting very interesting and the story unfolds. This is a very well written M/M book. Very well portrayed. A lot of drama is in the second half of the book, but I will not spoil your reading experience!!!!
