Portal Through the Veil

Rate this book
An heir, set to rule over all of Faery, on one condition- that she marry and take a King to rule at her side. Her father is determined to see her wed to a prince of his choosing, however, Tatianna has other plans. Plans that don’t involve tying the knot. What this princess didn’t anticipate, was the unexpected guest to what was, essentially, her engagement festival.

Kallan, prince of the dark court- was not only unexpected, but uninvited. He knew it would be a risk to show up. Not only was he a dark fae, but a human as well. It would all be worth it though to see her again. When light meets dark- and two worlds collide- secrets, lies and betrayals are exposed.

Luckily, fate, magic and a bit of divine intervention will help to bring balance back to the land of Faery. No matter the cost.

Portal through the Veil by Miranda Lynn

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

When Miranda asked if I would be interested in this book, I was a little bit hesitant because YA isn’t really my thing but TBH, I dug it. But I also didn’t think it had a YA feel about it. LOL!! There wasn’t any high school drama and all that jazz. This was about a princess….scratch that….and independent, free thinking, strong willed princess who didn’t need ANY man to rule with her. Nope *pops the P*

However, she must have a King just like a King would have to have a Queen in order to rule the land. Well our girl Tatianna is none to thrilled and even more angry when she finds out her dad is forcing her to court some Fae he finds suitable for her. UHM Nope our girl is not happy until……Kallan strolls into the party uninvited. Then she is kinda flipping her hair and giving him the “eye”.

The couple are drawn together, and the story begins to fly at this point. We learn there is someone who is causing trouble for Tatianna in her family’s kingdom plus Kallan’s kingdom has suffered as well. The couple need to work together to figure out what to do and who they can trust to solve the trouble.

The story was a really quick read. I sat down and devoured it. I love how strong-willed Tatianna was and at the same time how Kallan seemed impressed with the strength she has. Plus he was impressed with how she was willing to listen to what he told her vs what she know about The Dark Court.

Tahna is next in line to be the queen of the fae. However, her father wants her to pick a king to rule with her. Tahna wants to rule alone, she is strong enough to do it. Her father agrees, but doesn't want her to rule alone. A series of quests are set up. Four of the best fae are selected and sent forth to win her hand in marriage. Check that, five. A dark fae showed up to play too. Kallan, the dark fae wants the same thing as Tahna to reunite the two courts. Only others don't agree and will stop at nothing to keep them apart. Can Kal and Tahna work together and win? Or will the courts topple, bringing everything down to the ground?

This is a quick read. I enjoyed Tahna and Kal. But I couldn't help but think of the Disney movie Brave. The tests for her hand, the witches cabin with ruins and potions. The spirited princess. The fact that she doesn't want to marry and wants to rule alone. Once I got past that and Kal was more of the story I enjoyed it more.

A must read book if you love stories of the fae.

Portal Through The Veil is a fast-paced ride into the land of Faery. Good and evil runs in the land and before the new Queen takes the throne she must unleash the binding that holds her magic hostage. The author weaves her world building skills flawlessly, and the impressive character development unfolds organically. Truly enjoyed it!

This story of a Faery princess raised to be a queen without a king and then forced to go through selection process for her future husband was an okay read, not really bad but also not outstanding. Due to the format I felt like the story was flat and could use more in-depth scenes to smooth out the storytelling and fill in the gaps. What bothered me was basically no development in the relationship with the dark fae prince, and also no closure for what happened with the suitors in the end. It also looked like no one in Faery was really bothered that the heroine disappeared in the middle of the contest for quite a long time - I'd have expected something really happened in the meanwhile when she stayed in human world. What irked me about Tahna as well was that basically she was presented as strong and capable woman, yet in the end, others fought the battles.. granted, she contributed to the final result, but it was more like because she was destined to bond with the dark prince than for her abilities and actions. Did not sit too well with me.. otherwise, the storytelling itself was fine, I liked the setup, I really liked Kallan's mother and in general the personalities of both his parents, and the plot itself held some promises, only the execution did not fulfill them.

“A desire to live in the light instead of simply surviving in the shadow of darkness.”

Beautifully written but a fast read! You are immediately drawn into the the world of Faery. Quickly learning about the Fae and their customs and then you are thrown right into the mix of Tatianna having to find a prince to rule beside her as her King. Nope, she is not having none of that! She believes in change and believes she is strong enough to rule her people without a man. But we quickly find out that this is not going to be the case. Her father has a plan to make her choose….or rather he will choose for her through a series of tests for chosen suitors. What the king is not expecting is Kallan to make an appearance as he is a dark fae but is also half human. Tatiana cannot help but be drawn to Kallan and his mysterious vibe but she finds that she only has eyes for him…… and he for her. When this starts to heat up and secrets are unraveled these two have to band together to save Faery. The trials these two face and the secrets that come out will put true love to the test.

This is a YA story but has none of the feels of teenage hormones and drama. This is an evolved type of YA story that is beautiful and warm. A must read! I hope to read more of these two!

Carla's Five Star Review

The time has come for Tatianna to become queen of Faery. Steeped in tradition, the laws of Faery require her to have a king to rule beside her. Of course, being the independent fae that she is, she has no plans to marry. However, that all changes when a dark fae named Kallon shows up uninvited on the night of the beginning of her engagement festival. The pull between these two in impossible to ignore. With outside forces working against them, can these two fulfill the prophecy and restore harmony throughout the land?

Wow! This is my first time reading anything by this very talented author, but it certainly won't be the last! Through her careful use of words and imagery, this author has created a magical world that you will never want to leave!

Simply phenomenal!

Family, Respect, Honor, God’s, Thanks, Prayers & Love

The Faire Court, divided between the Light Court and the Dark Court. The princess of the Light Court, only child of the King and Queen, the King’s heir. The land of faire with evil darkness spreading. The future Queen’s agenda to unite the Fae as one Court and people. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick read with it’s different twists and turns. Tahna and Kallan each from a different court, good or evil? You will have to read and decide. No spoilers from me.

Loving this Fae world. This start of a new Series is a very enjoyable read. The Queen to be in the Light Faery world must choose her King to be. Fate has already chosen him. Will they find the way to save all of Faery? The story is waiting to be read. Yes, I am waiting for the next installment. From a True Fan... Pam James

An enjoyable read.

This is the first book I've read of Miranda's. I enjoyed it. I like all things faery and supernatural. I do think the fight scene at the end could have done with a bit more filling out. Other than that, I think it was well written. I hope there's a follow on to see how the King and Queen got on.
