Charlotte has just moved to the perfect small town to build a new life with her son, Taylor. She wants him to grow up to be a better man than his father, whose rich lifestyle brought her nothing but pain during their marriage. When Taylor's handsome new t-ball coach, Nate Haverton, turns out to be a billionaire, she knows she has to keep him at a distance. But Nate is determined to change her mind.
Jill is determined to prove she deserves her position at her father’s consulting firm, so the last thing she has time for is dating. Since her only experience with love ended in heartbreak, she isn’t tempted to break her own rule—until she meets Blake McDaniel. When she’s asked to take a job working with Blake, it’s a great step in her career, but the more time she spends around the attractive, determined billionaire, the harder it is to remember why she wants to stay single.
Hannah is determined to keep her beachfront property, even though she can’t afford to. But it’s her childhood home and she can’t bear to see it plowed down by Carter Ellis, the billionaire investor who keeps raising his offer to buy it. When Carter hires her to be his daughter’s nanny—providing her the income she needs to reject his offer—the irony is not lost on her. However, seeing him as a loving, worried father makes it difficult to enjoy her secret revenge—and even more impossible not to fall for him.
Getting hired as the personal assistant to the intelligent and attractive billionaire Christopher Warren seemed like a fairytale come true for Kate Ryan, but two years later, she hands in her two-weeks notice just before Christmas. How can she keep working for him day after day when she's in love with him? Not even the most beautiful and fascinating women in the world hold his interest, so there’s clearly no chance for her. Unfortunately, Mr. Warren seems determined to change her mind.
What a fun and delicious set of billionaire romances!
In THE TRUTH ABOUT BILLIONAIRES, Jill and Blake are both completely committed to their careers and are very determined individuals. Not only are they each professionally driven, but they both have strict rules regarding relationships. They are similar in many ways, but very different in others. I love that Jill and Blake have a mutual attraction and that they work hard to be themselves. Their banter is witty and fun and their chemistry is great.
Opposites really can attract and THE TRUST OF A BILLIONAIRE is such a fun reminder of that. From Hannah's ridiculous, but cute nicknames, to the tender wish bracelets, to the irresistible swoony sparks, this book captured me and I couldn't put it down.
The romance is a slow and sizzling burn in A TREE FOR THE BILLIONAIRE, much like the steam from a hot tub out in the winter chill, but it's wholesomely satisfying. And I must say--the epilogue was the icing on top of this beautiful cake. This is one story that will ward off the frosty air and warm the heart.
Everything that I have read by Michelle Pennington, I have enjoyed. She writes in different genres and does it well. This Southern Billionaire Romance Series falls under Clean Contemporary Romance. I've read two of the four books and these are my reviews.
The Trust of a Billionaire: The Trust of a Billionaire is the story of resort owner Carter Ellis who ends up with a free-spirited local nanny for his six-year-old daughter. Carter is a divorcee with sole custody of his daughter since her infancy. He has two people causing him trouble, his controlling mother and the homeowner that refuses to sell the house that's obstructing some of the beachfront view. Little does he know that his new nanny is that homeowner! I have read several clean romance novels about billionaires and this was one of my favorite. The story is sound, the characters are likable, and there's good chemistry. It's part of the Destined for Love: Resorts Collection. It's the perfect summer holiday read or any day that you need a picker-upper.
A Tree for the Billionaire: This is a "two weeks notice" romance with its own sweet characters and their touching story. It's a feel-good story and perfect for Christmas time. In fact, I think the title should have been "A Christmas for the Billionaire" since it's the holiday that makes the story more than an evergreen tree. Kate has given her all in the past 2 years as the personal assistant to her billionaire boss, Christopher. She realizes that she can no longer work for him, since her heart breaks every time she sees him with a new dazzling girlfriend. When she hands in her notice, Chris realizes what he's about to lose and he's determined to change her mind. What he doesn't realize is that she is in love with him and he hasn't even had a chance to consider his own feelings for her. A Christmas holiday, something that he would normally never take, puts things into perspective. Kate isn't willing to play games - to be just a passing fling - but she is willing to show her boss, before heading home to her parents, that Christmas can be a special time of the year.
I received an ARC of each book. These are my honest and voluntary reviews.
This set has lots of adventures for four lucky couples. Women who are not after the men for their money and men who finally find the special someone who makes their life complete and slows them down from work to enjoy their life.
So far I've read 2 of the 4 stories and will update my review when I read the rest of them.
THE TRUST OF A BILLIONAIRE--Carter Ellis just wants the opening of his new Seascapes Resort and Spa to go smoothly. He hasn't sold any condos in the east tower yet because the view is impeded by a house on the beach, and the owner doesn't want to sell. Add in that Carter's 6 year old daughter Addilynn is coming to live with him now that the school year is over and he needs to find a reliable nanny.
Hannah Rhodes teaches art at the elementary school but now that school's out she's waiting to hear from the babysitting service she works for during the summer. Hannah loves her family's beachfront house. It's the only thing she has left of her mom, and she isn't going to sell it to some billionaire so he can tear it down, even if she's finding it hard to come up with the money for the repairs and taxes.
What are the odds that Hannah would get the job of being the nanny to Carter's adorable daughter Addi? She figures he doesn't need to know where she lives and she really needs the money he's willing to pay. It's ironic that the money Carter pays Hannah enables her to stay in the house he wants to tear down. We all know where this is going to lead but it's a wonderful, swoony story all the same.
There's chemistry galore between Hannah and Carter--it's a wonder my Kindle didn't start smoking. ;) I love how Hannah interacts with Addi, getting her to help cook, etc, and that Addi starts to act more like a 6 year old (and less like an adult) in the few weeks that Hannah is her nanny. On the other hand Carter's mom is such a snob, and if she thinks her son would be attracted to women like Jenelle then she doesn't have a clue about her son. I love when Carter puts his mom in her place--he's thankful for everything she's done but she can't run his life. The scene involving the wish bracelets almost broke my heart.
There are a couple of funny scenes involving the guy renting the downstairs apartment from Hannah. Can we say it involves the green-eyed monster also known as jealousy? I love the nicknames Hannah comes up with for Carter, especially "Billionaire Beefcake", and I love his explanation for calling her "Sea Witch". Swoon.
A TREE FOR THE BILLIONAIRE--This was a different kind of romantic story for me. Kate Ryan is the very busy personal assistant to the dedicated workaholic Christopher Warren. She's had the job for 2 years but is about to give him her 2 week notice because she's in love with him.
Christopher Warren grew up with money and he's a billionaire in his own right. He works ALOT and seems to expect his employees to do the same--they aren't allowed to take vacation at the end of the year. When Kate tells him she's leaving in 2 weeks he doesn't want her to quit and kind of blackmails or "strong-arms" her into arranging a vacation for him AND she has to go with him.
Kate is a great personal assistant--she's at her boss' penthouse suite at 6 a.m. to make his coffee and start errands, and who knows what time she finally gets home to fall into bed. She plans the vacation as a "Christmas overload" revenge--a secluded cabin in North Carolina where internet service is "glitchy".
We find out Christopher Warren isn't a cold-hearted man, in fact he gives very generously to various causes, but his eyes aren't opened to the people he works with. I mean he didn't know his personal assistant was from North Carolina or that she wore contacts! All that changes when the latest woman he breaks up with tells him You know your assistant has got the hots for you, right? And it looks like you've finally noticed her too." After that, he starts to see Kate in a new light.
Reading about all the things Kate does to show Christopher an old-fashioned Christmas (cutting down a tree, making gingerbread cookies, etc) is sure to get the reader in a holiday mood. Christopher's reactions show that all of this is completely new to him which I thought was truly sad, although it's not his fault how he was raised. It shows that money can't buy true happiness and love. This isn't one of those instantly-in-love stories, this one takes a little time for Christopher to catch up with Kate. I thought it was funny when we find out why Chris' secretary, Shaun, spent all of his time in the theatre room of the cabin watching Christmas movies.
What if you had only two choices, of which only one will lead you to a happy and fulfilled life? Would you choose your current life where you’re in control of your decisions and sweat it out while you implement? Or, would you choose to team-up with a man who’s too full of himself and comes with billions of dollars?
The Southern Billionaire Romance Series Collection comprises four books, where Charlotte (The Trouble with Billionaires), Jill (The Truth about Billionaires), Hannah (The Trust of a Billionaire), and Kate (A Tree for the Billionaire) feature as the women running away from the billionaire men they encounter in their strive to build a life for themselves.
Here’s my take on the books - they are about strong women who would not let men with billions of dollars sweep them off their feet – as it were. The story in each book centers on a journey to a realization that even the men who front as satisfied with a life of power and money lack something, the sincere love of a woman which cannot be bought.
Charlotte, in The Trouble with Billionaires is a single mother after a divorce from a rich man that brought her more pain than the poverty she’s now living in. Will she ever trust another man, worse still Nate the billionaire?
Charlotte’s story left me wondering the extent to which we use our past experience to make future choices? Should human beings handle each case as it comes, or let past experiences influence future choices? Will she ever learn to trust a rich man again?
In, The Truth about Billionaires, Jill’s struggles center around convincing the men in her life, including her father and Blake McDaniel the billionaire she’s consulting for, that she’s as professional as they come. What will it take for Blake to realize that Jill can be a professional in the boardroom and loving at home?
Are you a career woman, to what extent did you succeed in balancing career with family? Read the book to establish how Jill’s story ends, and the questions left unanswered for us to debate. Hannah’s story in The Trust of a Billionaire took me back to Charlotte’s story on using our past to define our future. Is Hannah holding too much onto the past that she cannot see the bright future right in front of her - the love and confidence she’s building in the child she’s a nanny to, and, the love of the child’s father, Carter the billionaire?
Reading, A Tree for the Billionaire brought a century old question to mind – what does it take for both men and women to balance career and family, do they have to sacrifice one for the other? Christopher and Kate’s career lives are perfect until Kate disrupts the process by wanting to leave her stressful position of a personal assistant.
What type of sacrifices are both willing to make in their careers as the way to achieve some happiness, a sense of fulfillment?
What kept me reading the 753 pages in less than two weeks? The author got me reflective:
•What are the different personalities we portray as professionals, and as regular people in need of love? •Is it possible for two hardworking individuals to realize a successful and happy marriage without one being willing to sacrifice their career? •Reading the book kept me reflective on issues of courtship, parenthood, balancing career and love, and what it takes to let another human being know that we love them.
Michelle’s writing style filled with suspense held my attention as I read each book in the series. The author provided enough character descriptions and background information to help me form vivid images of each character. Lost in a new world, I was able to chase after each character to learn how they would handle the next challenge thrown their way.
I recommend the books to anyone in a relationship or those struggling with choices of a marriage partner. Charlotte and Hannah’s stories will guide you to review any past experiences holding you back, while the stories of Jill and Kate will throw some light and lots of truth on what it takes for a couple to achieve a balance between enhancing their careers and their desire to raise a family.
Though there were a few sections that lagged in A Tree for the Billionaire, I still give five stars to each of the four books. Michelle communicated such a delicate matter of love, career and family in a way that kept me opening each of the 753 pages, and I still want to read more books with strong women.
Have you read any of the four titles, what message intrigued you most?
Thanks for reading this book review. I write a review of the books that capture my interest. Please recommend books for me to read. First published in EileenOmosa.com
The Trouble with Billionaires - So fun! I have really enjoyed all the books I have read by Michelle Pennington. I especially like this one because both of the main characters are looking for happiness through means besides money. They had learned that money doesn't buy happiness and they are looking for what does. Their interactions often made me laugh out loud. I loved some of the side characters almost as much as the main characters. This is a new series about southern billionaires. I saw at least two characters that I think could have their own story and I would love to learn more about them.
The Truth about Billionaires - Blake and Jill sucked me into their story. Both characters are heavily invested in their careers, yet the attraction they share is so strong they eventually reevaluate putting their career ahead of relationships. I enjoyed many of the characters in this book and hope to get to know some of them in their own stories. Jill's strength and independence make her feisty and fun. Blake's strength and protectiveness are endearing. I enjoyed their banter and their connection. I hope to continue to get peaks into the life they share in future books.
The Trust of a Billionaire - Strong characters and a beautifully fun setting. Hannah’s spunk and ability to connect with Addi, Carter’s daughter, really pulled me in. I like how Carter and Hannah protect Addi at all costs and draw nearer to each other in the process. I also like how Hannah and Carter realize that it is their own weaknesses that drive them apart. Learning to say I am sorry can be so hard. Yet, overcoming our own weaknesses strengthens our relationships with those around us. I enjoyed watching Hannah and Carter be drawn together, then learn to overcome the obstacles that would separate them.
A Tree for the Billionaire - A sweet holiday read about enjoying Christmas traditions and recognizing the people in your life for who they are. It was funny to me how blind Chris was at the beginning of the story. Kate is beyond patient. They compliment each other well. I enjoyed watching each of them discover what their relationship could become. The cozy yet splendid cabin on the mountain is the perfect setting for discovering the joys of Christmas.
THE TROUBLE WITH. BILLIONAIRES Charlotte had one rich husband, now an ex, and back payments of alimony are needed. Her son Taylor is a natural, just needs practice his coach says. In buying shoes she’s looking for a bargain, when he comes and tell her the expensive will last. The ones she is going to buy won’t last two months, Her temper gets the best of her, and this was only the start, of how he wants to help her. Until she has a contract written up, by his lawyer of what he can and can’t do. A fun story to read, and wonder will things ever change. Doesn’t seem like it when she finds out he too has money. THE TRUTH ABOUT BILLIONAIRES Jill is a friend and legal advisor for Charlotte, and when husband Nate wants to scale down his business she is brought in. To work with his advisor Blake. He is surprised of who she is, and at a young age. They continually clash, and even her dad wants someone with more experience to take over. Interesting of how she works to see what is going on with one of the company’s. The jealousy of Blake gets to him , not realizing she wants to know the people, and being friendly, gives her more of an idea of what is going on. Before love is admitted, he accuses her, now will that be the final straw, or a test of their love. THE TRUST.OF A BILLIONAIRES Carter banking on his resort being a success, one obstacle a woman who won’t sell her little piece of property. So he can extend the resort and sell those unit facing for a profit. He wants a nanny for his little girl and who shows up, one and the same Hannah. Sparks fly, add a mother and one cute little girl, and you have a good plot / story to read.
I enjoyed the series except the first book. Not that Nate and Charlotte weren't lovely characters, but their love felt rushed and unfounded - only a huge physical attraction with lot's of hurdles on the way. The rest of the stories were lovely though. The second book was more closely related to the first one, Jill being Charlotte's best friend. She and Blake made a powerful couple with geat chemistry. Hannah and Carter from book 3 came from different worlds, but his love for gis daughter was so adorable and melted her resistance in no time. Book 4 was the shortest of them all and not connected directly to the others (well, except it had a billionaire in it). But the plot of unrequited love and finally having your eyes open when you are about to loose something you cherish warmed my heart. So three great stories (I don't count the first one which I forced myself to finish only because I hate not finishing things) of clean romance with great characters and sizzling kisses. Narrative: 3rd person following the H and h Religion: none Sensuality: clean with some innuendo and kissing
I really enjoyed this series. Unfortunately, I must have read 1 & 2 at a time when I was lazy and didn't write reviews, but I know I enjoyed them and are the reason I continued reading the series.
The Trust of a Billionaire - Another fun book in the Southern Billionaire series. Hannah and Carter seem like opposites, but their love blooms over taking care of Carter's daughter Addi. I love that Hannah knows who she is and doesn't try to change herself to please others. She is a fun, quirky strong woman. Her and Carter are a good match.
A Tree for the Billionaire - Oh, I loved this story! The Christmas setting was magical, but I just loved Chris and Kate! Their chemistry together was so fun. I loved Kate's spunk! I loved the change that came over Chris. The epilogue was perfect. A wonderful quick sweet clean romance!
The Trust of a Billionaire is a clean, funny, well written story with extremely well drawn characters. Carter's controlling mother makes a great villain. Thank goodness Hannah was able to help Addi bloom. This story sucked me in from page one and I could not put it down. I enjoyed every page and was sorry when it ended. A Tree for the Billionaire had me hooked from the first page. Ms. Pennignton's stories always have such interesting and detailed characters. Kate and Chris make a perfect couple - especially after she prove's to him that he is not broken. Imagine a billionaire who never had a good Christmas memory. Kate is determined to show Chris what Christmas should be. With a great story and sparkling characters this book should be on everyone's Christmas reading list!
These stories capture the essence of billionaire romance. The hard focus that enables success can make one oblivious to the only person that would bring meaning to a sterile life, or worse, the inability to form relationships with others. Add in the habit of throwing away money to get whatever is wanted, parasites that are after a big payout, and commitment phobia and true romance seems far from possible. But these are delightful escapes. True love, palatial houses on every coast, luxury cars, and young, ripped billionaires touches fantasy, but with soul-searing kisses reality is just as close. Settings are sublime, characters fully realized, and true love does seem possible for anyone.
....were fine. Not great, but certainly not terrible. A pleasant way to spend an afternoon. The fourth, and final story, was another story. Executive assistant, in love with her boss, boss in love with her. End up in secluded cabin, in a snow storm, at Christmas, together. Great story huh? Well, you’d think. But you’d be wrong. Boring, almost nothing going on, in spite of how great it sounds. No chemistry. No believability. No passion. No romance. Less of a sizzle, more like a fizzle. My best advice? Read the first three stories, close the thing out, and pretend the fourth one isn’t even there.
Of course, the billionaires generally come across as arrogant and cocky. They recover well overall. The gals range from struggling to self assured. The kids are cute. In the second book he should have groveled a little more. In the third, I thought his reaction to her secret was way out of line. But his solution to the problem was great, thanks to his admin.
I had already read two of the stories in this book. But I enjoyed rereading them, especially the last, which always makes me cry. Pennington shows us men who have never really loved learning to love. It shows what love really means -- love of family, love of creating a family where none existed before. Recommended for all readers of clean billionaire romance.
Sweet love STORIES that relied on events and words and not filled with physical interaction 😁Don't think there is anything wrong with that but that is NOT THIS. The stories are sweet, engaging and the writing pulls you in, engages and wraps around you making you curious and a cheerleader for each couple! I enjoyed them all! Thank you for your time, talent And the stories!
I loved the plot of the books. What I didn’t like is that every ending of each book fell completely flat. Each one started off with great Characters and a strong female lead, but each one fell short by the end. It was like the author decided to rush the end of each book. It irritated me. If each book had at least one more chapter it wouldn’t have felt as rushed as it did.
I am a huge Michelle Pennington fan now, and since I’m waiting and waiting for the next rom com, I decided to give these a shot. I don’t normally go for billionaire romances, but these were perfect! Funny, sweet, swoony, and with the perfect balance of tension and angst that keeps a girl reading without driving her to eye roll. Loved the whole series, especially the novella!
How nice to read a book that involves good feelings and emotions. Most men don't read romance novels, but even at my old age my sweetheart still revs up my heart, and a well written novel revs me up too. The ability to show the characteristics of many personalities and put together great stories that end too soon, now that is sad. I'm grateful that Amazon allows me use Prime for free books and sometimes I get good ones this package, thanks!
I thoroughly enjoyed each story. Evie told me you wrote books so I looked you up and started reading your Southern Billionaire series. Perfect for a cold winter day and a hot cup of cocoa! Now I’m onto the next story. Keep writing, I like to step into your world and relax.
Love the four romance stories in this collection. The first three had characters that were intertwined. The fourth one was a separate story. They are 4 fun filled clean romances. They have their ups and downs but they end up finding the one. Love all the crazy and fun characters. Awesome set of romance stories.
I was absolutely touched by these heartwarming billionaires. If I could, I would dream about my life just like this but in California of course. I loved your characters as well as the fact some were single parents. That’s definitely a hard thing to be and find the perfect love as well. Thank you for making me smile.
This is a collection of 4 clean romance books. I appreciate the pleasant distraction while spending my days helping my children with government mandated online learning due to Covid. Experiencing Pennington’s happy endings in between explaining math lessons and teaching basic reading/writing skills sweetens the experience.
Not every romance book has to be nothing but sex. I enjoyed these books so much. I am sure all of us has experienced the emotions in these stories. I found myself tearing up at times . Beautifully written so that you become invested with each character. Well done.
Four excellent books to read at your leisure and get lost in swoony billioniare stories, each one better than the one before. You'll be hard pressed to choose a favorite couple.
Wonderful characters, clean and wholesome with just kisses, to entice a romance reader.
I'm a sucker for a good romance by it is so difficult to find good CLEAN romance. I've enjoyed the characters and the unbelievable romances. What a great way to get away from the real world for just a moment.
The Southern Billionaire Romance Series Collection
This series was four stories that were easy and enjoyable to read. They all consisted of somewhat broken rich men who had struggled with romance, ultimately found the love they deserved.
A quartet of entertaining stories! Hard-working men and women overcome their differences and discover their love for each other, with amusing side characters who add to the frustrations and fun 😀
Fabulous stories of love in unexpected places with unexpected people. Michelle Pennington has created four unique stories, with great characters, that I totally enjoyed. She is my new favorite author.
