UnBound Issue # 5, Theme : SHAPE OF YOU

Rate this book
‘Shape of You’ is the fifth issue of Unbound Magazine, whose first issue was published in August 2015.

In this issue, we invited our contributors to write on the subject of
physical appearance, body-shaming, society’s perception of the
less-than-physically-perfect, and the impact of our appearance-conscious society on its individuals.

In response, we received a number of entries in the form of personal essays, fictional stories and poems, that touched on many aspects of our theme.
These include:

‘A Tale of Beauty Woes’, which takes a humorous look at a woman’s experience going through the wringer at a typical suburban beauty parlour;

‘All About Love’, a thoughtful journey through the travails of a dark-skinned girl child raised in a misogynist environment;

'Because of Meets In Spite Of’, a tale of a woman who is forced to examine her own able-ist prejudice and overcoming a sense of victimhood;

‘Big Head’, an inspirational story of a girl whose life appears to be defined by a minor physical defect, but finds that the strength to face the world with a confident face lies within herself;

‘Black and White’, a touching, sorrowful ode to a friendship between two girls who are misfits in the shallow, conformist world of teenage cliques;

‘Hate’, a story about how childhood body-shaming can have far-reaching consequences on the victim’s mental make-up,

‘Mirror Mirror on the Wall’ is a touching real-life account of the contributor’s visit to a café run by victims of acid-attacks,

‘That Thing You Do’ takes a very personal look at male body-issues,
and,

‘Sticks at Stones’ is a cheerful take on how one can deflect
body-shaming through humour,

The issue also includes two poems on the subject, an interview with a
a transgender woman which touches upon aspects of gender dysphoria, as well as an essay by T. F. Carthick, author of ‘Carthick’s Unfairy Tales’, about the process of giving shape to an idea in the form of a book.

And so, without any further ado—
We invite you to step into the world of Unbound, Issue #5 – Shape of You
