I thought this was going to be a fun book about sharing but there is definitely no sharing involved. Wolf and bird both want to play with the pine cone and keep taking it off each other until one of them wins it for good. The book would be funny for young children and doesn’t have any words allowing for the illustrations to tell most of the story. Everything is black and white except the pine cone which brings attention to it, children could take inspiration from this style of drawing. There are lots of opportunities for prediction and discussions about how the different characters maybe feeling or what they might be thinking. A good book for FS and KS1 children as a read aloud book or to explore individually/with a partner.
This book took me by surprise and made me chuckle out loud, but make sure you read it yourself before sharing with a young one. The humour could go either way depending on the sensitivity of your child. (I really liked it though!)
