Join Shivers, the pirate who’s afraid of everything, on his latest laugh-filled adventure in this illustrated series by former Story Pirates Annabeth Bondor-Stone and Connor White.
In this fourth and final book, Shivers, along with his best friend Margo and his first mate and pet fish, Albee, has to save his hometown by sailing all the way to the Bermuda Triangle.
Shivers, the pirate who’s afraid of everything, is finally comfy and cozy in his ship, the Groundhog. Nothing—NOTHING!—could make him want to leave, especially not to go on any adventures. And ESPECIALLY not for any adventures to the Bermuda Triangle, the most dangerous place on Earth.
But when Shivers learns that creepy Captain Crook is about to attack New Jersey Beach and that the key to stopping him is hidden in the Bermuda Triangle, Shivers knows SOMEONE has to get there first to stop him.
Which leaves the whole horrible fate of the world in the hands of Margo, the flippers of Albee, and the bunny slippers of Shivers. What could possibly go wrong? (Here’s a EVERYTHING.)
It’s another hilarious, highly illustrated adventure from former Story Pirates and stars of KidLitTVs’ “The Truth About Libraries,” Annabeth Bondor-Stone and Connor White.
This is the 4th adventure for Shivers the Pirate, his best friend Margo, and his fish Albee as they bumble their way to the Bermuda Triangle and back looking for the key that will stop Pirate Captain Crook from invading New Jersey. Along the way they will encounter patch loving Roy Scouts, a storm of electric eels, a never ending vacation party, and of course the evil pirates.
I know I am not the intended audience for this book, but as an adult who works with children I have some reservations about this book that I can't ignore. Shivers displays obvious and serious sensory processing issues, he can't stand textures etc. This book really triggered me as to how we see children who are diagnosed with these issues and how we portray them in comedy. The intended audience are reluctant middle grade readers who like humor and gags, but this felt like it took it too far and not in good way. I am not normally this critical of humor in middle grade stories. I guess I felt it lacked empathy.
I would recommend this book as an optional purchase for school and public libraries.

I’ve read this whole series with my 6 year old son and we’ve loved them. They’re hilarious, with a lot of corny but unique jokes? And surprisingly well-written. We particularly liked a line about lasting “as long as a balloon in a cactus shop.” The pictures really add to the story as well. We’ve been reading them since he was 4, and pre-order each one as soon as it shows up on Apple Books. I’m sure we’ll be pre-ordering the next volume as well.
Shivers and Margo while trying to rescue Albee, who has been flushed down the toilet by a pirate named Spitball, find a message in a bottle informing them that the Pirate Captain Crook is planning to destroy their town. Their only hope to save the town and stop Captain Crook is to find a key that is somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle. Plenty of action and puns in this tale as our heroes are put to the test for what could be their final adventure.
Ok so we accidentally started with book 4 because that's what we stumbled across at the library, but this was cute. Funny, full of puns, and cute lessons on bravery. My daughter can't wait to find book 1 and read them in the right order
