Can tracking skills and dreams discover a killer before it's too late?
Love… Marriage… Murder Less than twelve hours after arriving at a remote hunting lodge for their honeymoon, Shandra Higheagle and Detective Ryan Greer find a body. Shandra’s cousin had quarreled with the man earlier, and the clues point to her as being the murderer. Fish and Wildlife State Trooper Gabriel Hawke, arrives and immediately takes a dislike to Shandra’s cousin. But he is willing to work with Shandra and Ryan to discover the truth. For a remote hunting lodge, the place becomes overrun with suspicious guests. Shandra’s dreams and Hawke’s tracking skills soon discover the cause of the drunk’s death.
Paty Jager is an award-winning author of 55+ novels, novellas, and short stories of murder mystery, western romance, and action adventure. All her work has Western or Native American elements in them along with hints of humor and engaging characters. Paty and her husband raise alfalfa hay in rural eastern Oregon. Riding horses and battling rattlesnakes, she not only writes the western lifestyle, she lives it.
This is another good mystery book. I can’t imagine spending my honeymoon trying to find out who the murderer was where I was staying! I know Shandra has helped Ryan with other homicides and loves to help, but it had to be a little frustrating since they were somewhere where Ryan couldn’t be contacted so they could relax. I always love seeing Shandra stick up for people she believes innocent. I know she loved meeting a cousin she didn’t know about. There were so many quirky characters that I enjoyed. I couldn’t figure out who the murderer was until the end. I strongly encourage you to read the book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.
A really interesting mystery, with idiosyncratic characters and very loveable protagonists.
I also loved the setting, a hunting lodge a bit run-down, which is getting fixed by its new owner, Dani Singer, an ex-military who just inherit it... and is Shandra's cousin.
Not only that, but she's the main suspect, as the victim was really angry at her; after the death of the owner, he was expecting to get the lodge and wasn't happy about the way things turned out.
The mystery is very well-plotted and I had a really hard time trying to discover the guilty one.
And, even when this is a series, it can be read as a stand-alone with no problem at all.
Only Shandra and Ryan could go on a honeymoon to an out of the way place and run into a murder. What a story it had you saying its him, no her, no........ Did not guess until close to the end. A great read. Would recommend to all who love a good murder mystery. I received an ARC, the views and comments are my own.
Shandra is an artisan/shamanic dreamer/amateur sleuth and her brand-new husband is Idaho law enforcement. The new owner/heir of the hunting camp in a wilder area of eastern Oregon is a former USAF officer and pilot and cousin to the camp's new owner. Gabriel Hawke is Oregon law enforcement/Fish and Wildlife/Native tracker extraordinaire. (One of my failings is not being able to differentiate tribes any better than I can differentiate Europeans-except for we of Nordic heritage) Shandra and Ryan arrive for their honeymoon to a lot of contentiousness at the camp. The heir named was a great surprise all around. Before nightfall one of the most vociferous was found murdered. There went the chance for a pleasant escape for Ryan! Next lawman on site is Hawke and while the men get along famously, the investigation does NOT go smoothly. A great read! I felt disconcerted at first because my main addiction to the author's books is that of Gabriel Hawke, and here he is a newly introduced character as are the characters at the hunting camp. I won the audio in a giveaway and Ann M Thompson has a gift for interpretation and differentiation of characters. My only jarring note was listening to someone else interpret Hawke.
It's their honeymoon, so what should turn up but a body and a mystery for Shandra and Ryan to help unravel? Focusing on nature, observation, and procedure, we are also embraced by native customs and tribal differences as well as similarities. In addition we are introduced to a new character, Gabriel Hawke, who will be getting his own spinoff series. Shandra has come to a Zen-like acceptance of her dreams and visions and her new husband is able, finally, to share the source of his crime-solving assistance with Gabriel, the first time he's acknowledged to any else her special nature. While Shandra may be guided and directed by her grandmother, nonetheless it is the dogged footwork of investigation that provides the proof and solution. I have become a huge fan of the gentle and deliberate pace of the Shandra Higheagle stories, which seem to encourage me to think outside the box to deduce whodunit.
Another good who-done-it by Paty Jager. With Shandra Higheagle and Ryan Greer in the drivers seat, going off on their honeymoon to a small Oregon resort in the Wallowas! Where several new characters were introduced... New that is, unless you're a fan of the Gabriel Hawke mysteries. So you can imagine my surprise 'cause this book introduced not only Gabriel Hawke but Danny too, and their first tension filled meeting... And yes, it's not long before a body is found. So grab the book, because it takes place in the Wallowas (one of the most beautiful places) or because you're a Paty Jager fan, no matter what series you've enjoyed you're guaranteed to love the book! Ohhhh, and yeah it totally stands-alone no matter what series you've enjoyed in the past! Ann M Thompson may not be my favorite narrator but she does a good job...
Another great Shandra Higheagle story from author Paty Jager. I loved that Gabriel Hawke, Horse, and Dog show up in this one too!. Having read books from both of these characters’ series it was great to see them solve a murder together. Shandra and new hubby, Ryan are off on a honeymoon and immediately find a body. There are lots of twists to the story and the author keeps the culprit well cloaked, which always makes for a good whodunnit story. I can’t wait to read more in the series. I listened to a complimentary copy of the audiobook and was not required to write a positive review. The opinions are my own. Ann M. Thompson did a great job narrating the story which made for an enjoyable listening experience.
I thoroughly enjoyed the latest Shandra Higheagle book, Homicide Hideaway. Shandra and Ryan are flown into a remote lodge for their honeymoon and almost immediately are drawn into a murder. So many twists and turns made it difficult to put the book down until I finished it. Ms Jager's descriptions of the country are so strong, I felt I was seeing the flowers, trees, mountains and feeling the cold water in the stream. If you like mysteries, I recommend Homicide Hideaway. I received an advance copy and I am providing my honest review.
This was a well-written, entertaining book. Shandra and Ryan are finally on their honeymoon, at a remote lodge where they think they will not have any interruptions. They find a body and find themselves working with Fish and Wildlife State Trooper Gabriel Hawke to solve the mystery. This book is part of the Shandra Higheagle mystery series. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books in this series.
So that’s the full story behind Charlie’s Lodge and how Hawke and Dani met. I guess I didn’t realize that that story bridged the two series. Somehow, even knowing what the future has in store for Hawke and Dani, I still was surprised by the outcome of this mystery. But I had a heck of a lot of fun seeing other people’s reactions to the kind of partnership Shandra and Ryan have. And even though I’ve only just finished reading this book, I’m already anxious to see what’s next.
I'm so happy that. Shandra and Ryan are married now, but what an awful way to have to spend your honeymoon, trying to find a murderer. This one was a page turner. Twists and turns and I truly didn't know who had done it until the end. I found the character of Gabriel Hawke intriguing. I love Jager's descriptive style of writing and have enjoyed each book in this series
Another wonderful Shandra Higheagle mystery, though I am not sure if I would want my honeymoon to go the same way. Beautiful descriptions of the scenery.
I loved this latest adventure of Shandra & Ryan. Great getaway reading with plenty of action & suspense. Very enjoyable characters & strong storyline .
I've read all the books in this series and this one didn't disappoint at all.
Shandra and Ryan have married at last and they have decided to go to a remote lodge for their home moon, where no one can contact them!
As usual, things don't go to plan, there's a murder and it's up to the pair of them to solve it, along with the help of the local wildlife law enforcement, Gabriel Hawke.
There's a spin off series from this book, all about Gabriel and his own murders which he has to solve, it's a series I'm looking forward to reading.
I'm looking forward to reading the next in the series about Shandra and Ryan.
Shandra and Ryan are finally married and are on their honeymoon. They are staying at Shandra’s cousin's remote hunting cabin in the mountains. When a man goes missing all signs pot to him being murdered Shanda’s cousin is a suspect. When State Trooper Hawke arrives to investigate things get interesting for Shandra and Ryan.
This is a great mystery. It is well-plotted with plenty for surprises. The characters are interesting. My favorite character is Shandra, she is smart, strong, caring, and compassionate. The new character Trooper Hawke is interesting and really add this book with his tracking abilities.
The listened to the audio version of this book. The narrator is great at capturing the characters' personalities. She has a pleasant voice that allows you to lose yourself in the story. I recommend this book to mystery lovers.
All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.
