The Elder Stones Saga #2

Shadows Within the Flame

Rate this book
The Forgers proved to be only part of a greater plan to gain the power of the stones, remnants from powerful beings lost to time. Their power has never been controlled by one person but now someone is close to changing that.

Having survived the last attack, Haern trains, working with the assassin Galen to hone his skills, learning about poisons and how to best use his control over metal. When he becomes the target of another attack, he must discover what the Forgers plan before it’s too late. His father might be the key to Haern’s understanding, but the more he learns about what his father has done, the less Haern wants to follow in his footsteps.

As Lucy struggles to control her new power, she’s asked to help find the depth of the C’than betrayal. It requires her to learn more about her new abilities and exposes her to dangers she had never imagined. She’s not a fighter, but she must find strength within her to ensure the safety of those she cares about.

While staying with Lucy, Daniel hopes she will eventually come to see him the way he sees her. He trains, realizing that despite everything he learned of fighting, he’s still a novice. He needs to improve his skill to protect Lucy, but saving her might require more than his ability with the sword; it will require his mind.

The stones must be protected from those who would use them for their own dark purpose, but another has maneuvered for decades, and it might already be too late to prevent the stones from falling into the wrong hands.

Entertaining but could use some editing. Like the first book there were a few mistakes in the dialogue that made me have to re-read and some of the realizations happened multiple times. Not sure if the author was trying to hammer the point home or it had been forgotten that the point had already been discussed.

Book 2 in a series, can be read as a stand alone story. It has an open ending that isn't a differentiated ending. I enjoyed the fantasy of "sliding", and "reading". Can't wait to read the next book. Following the plot lines with their twists is stimulating and difficult to put down. I would recommend this book for any who love this genre.

I liked it! Just when I thought would end there was more

Probably DK's longest novel, each time I thought it would end the plot thickened and more was revealed. Very interesting character developments....some you don't really expect. Check it out.

Good story bad dialogue

I enjoy the story so far, but some of the interactions between characters feel dead or copy and paste feel to them. I will still keep reading the series though. Mainly just for hearn

Shadows Within the Flame

Exciting, easy to get wrapped up in this world. A few grammatical errors in this one as well. Needs better editing and proof reading. On to book 3 in the series.

Shadows Within the Flame (The Elderstones Saga Book 2)

Another great read by D.K. Holmberg. Filled with swashbuckling, high energy events, it was a page turner till the end. One thing for sure, each character definitely asked their portions of questions…and I mean a lot of them. Now on to book three.
