BENEDICT SPINOZA was a 17th century philosopher and spiritual psychotherapist. This intellectual self-help book provides important insights from Spinoza's system of thought in a format accessible to the general reader, as well as to those already familiar with his philosophy. By applying his method to our personal lives, we may free ourselves from bondage to our lower emotions and habitual behaviors and thus begin to enjoy the "continuous, supreme, and unending happiness" promised by Spinoza.
Disappointing The author has some good ideas about using affirmations. His constant use of the pronouns "she/her" destroys the concentration and the narrative flow. He also asserts that the human race is a cancer on the earth, and humans are destroying the earth's ability to sustain life. I object to that. Then he promotes masturbating--I don't think Spinoza would agree. Author also presents myths as undisputed facts--the big bang, evolution, black holes. He is victim of the very social programming he warns the reader against. Rather shallow thinking for a philosophy book.
