Sometimes what you can't see is more dangerous than what you can…
Lucky me. It's finally my fourth year at Spellslingers Academy of Magic and I've been so good at lurking in my roommates' shadows that I've been tapped to participate in a special training assignment with the Agency of Magical Forces. When vampires start dropping dead from an unknown cause, it's time to flex my magical muscles and help crack the case. With a sexy and mysterious supernatural by my side, we must figure out who's behind the murders and stop the plague upon the vampires' houses before it spreads beyond our control.
Can I lead the charge to prevent an epidemic from destroying civilization as we know it or am I destined to remain as invisible as the air I command?

DNF 30% I love this author, her other series with more mature characters are so goooood. But this wasn't it
What I didn't like: -Too many characters, sure they were important because each has their own book but I was in the first 5 chapters and I already had to learn +15 names? I'm sorry but no -There were some tragedies with one character but since I'm just a few chapters in, full of new characters, how can I really feel sorry for the main character and her feelings? -I usually don't like to read YA/NA because of this special thing they LOVE to do with their characters, making them do impossible things for someone their age, like what's up with the rules? their professors and faculty members? with the authoritieS? How can the child outsmart the adult? huh? and sure I there are authors who can make all these possible explanations like in the Pawn series I could believe her because of her past and her knowledge, here? not so much. -The hero? Meh. In my mind he was 100% Constantine (from the series) but with a nice heart
In general the story was interesting but it had waaaay to many characters, she was so sad because next year her friends will go different ways which it's crazy to make it a plot point if their story ends in the next book, why make it a big deal if all of them already had their own books?. I think this book could have work if they were a little older, like maybe they out from school and are in the first year in their magical FBI, in this way you can see that they have good practice solving things but nothing to serious until the special case for the book were they are over their head but still they managed to get things done.
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
Read back to back years ago with the other books in the Spellsingers series, decided to split by lead character.
First time read the author's work?: No
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Yes
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
This is a pretty interesting book about some people at a school for 'spellslingers.' Mia is the main character along with Brown Coat, a fascinating character in himself. There are also vampires and weres at the school.
Mia is sent on her first mission to a special sale and silent auction for a Vampire Charity. She's to help track down a thief and from that point on things get weird. There's some kind of biological weapon that is devastating to vampires so her task becomes much more complicated. Find the weapon, find the person making it and stop him or her and do this before the death toll rises.
It also turns out that Brown Coat is beyond anything in her experience.
I like the way the characters are done along with the general plot. It's good enough that I plan to read other books in the series.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
In the final trilogy of the Spellslingers series, quiet Mia takes center stage with a roar. The one predictable part of the entire series is that all four women meet their future boyfriends in the first book, and it’s never love at first sight. The series just gets better with each book. I literally stayed up all night to finish it, after telling myself “just one more chapter.”
My only criticism is Ms Chase’s penchant for calling cookies “biscuits,” which I find somewhat pretentious. If you’re actually a Brit, then I apologize. That’s just how the cookie crumbles. 😉
A fun read about Mia and her assignment with the AMF. She becomes involved in case where the bad guys are trying to destroy the world. They use a bio weapon and kill several vampires. The infection transmits to humans if they are bitten with the same deadly results. She meets Declan, her to be boyfriend and a demi-god along the way. Her real assignment is to find confidence in herself which she seems to do as she does her part to help save the world.
Our favorite for witches are in their fourth and final year. Follow me as it is her turn to shine. She joins with enough agents to solve a crime and stumbled in to a doomsday prophecy. Follow along as the Mia and the rest race against time to solve the mystery in save the world. Always entertaining check them out
As with all of the spell slingers books I have enjoyed the theme, they are well written and full of the same magical stories that makes the dreams seem possible, a separate realm with paranormals of all kinds and a boy meets girl saves the world kind of ethos. Well written, and enjoyable light entertainment.
Mia's turn to take the lead! This was another exciting story in the Spellslingers world. The threat is timely under the current circumstances - a mysterious plague that they are frantically trying to stop from spreading. We also have the introduction of "Brown Coat," who is an intriguing addition to our cast of characters.
Mia is sent on a case as part of her assessment, generally the most retiring of the friends she lacks confidence in her abilities but when the vampire gathering she attended becomes part of a much bigger problem and one of the agents she's teamed with dies horribly Mia has to step up and prove she has what it takes.
I liked this book more than I thought I would. It feels like there is a dip in the action when Annabel switches gears to a new protagonist in this series and I thought Mia would be no different, especially as she has been the slowest shower in the group. But this book started out fast paced and action packed while developing Mia’s character. Great job, Annabel!
It’s Mia turn to prove her mettle, even though she has an amazing academic life, her attitude of being invisible has put a question on het future plans, to this and to decide her future she is paired with two agents and her adventure begins. Quite a fantastical story and development off it,!love the spin on it. Off to read the last book in the series.
Another amazing adventure for the imagination. Good and evil, life and death love and romance are fantastically brought together to make these series awesomely entertaining. Enjoy!
My reviews for all of Annabel Chase's books are pretty much the same. I love them all and read them as soon as they're released. The characters are all great and interact so well. Easy, fun reading at its best.
Really enjoyed getting to know quiet Mia and looking forward to her character development... also really liked brown coat and the chemistry between the two of them, Looking forward to book 2!
This story is wonderful. It has a beautiful young heroine and a handsome hero, plus magic. It doesn't contain profanity or sexual situations. All Annabel Chase's books are interesting and fun to read.
Paranormal stories are my favorite. The author provides some world building and character development. Magical anything with some twists and turns with some romantic interests moved the pages rapidly toward the pause in this new series.
