Books can be attributed to "Anonymous" for several reasons:
* They are officially published under that name * They are traditional stories not attributed to a specific author * They are religious texts not generally attributed to a specific author
Books whose authorship is merely uncertain should be attributed to Unknown.
I like that the Adarna House publication has summaries and insights for every part. I think Almario's words put this work into a more palatable light than it would had I read it without his thoughts. That said, I practically forgot all about the third part where Don Juan completely shifts from the role of the hero to the role of buffoon lol
I know we should try not to apply modern morality to old writing but man. This was a trip.

Ibong Adarna is a epic story written in poem by unknown author. It's a required reading material in highschool with 'Florante and Laura' (Francisco Balagtas), 'Noli Me Tangere' (Jose Rizal) and 'El Filibusterismo' (Jose Rizal).
I can't understand why this is a obligatory for students to read. Too many cliche and flaws, but what do you expect from a traditional story? Like reading a fairy tale with the same old plot pattern. I didn't like the second half of the book where the bird had escaped and to look for it again... Then, the love stories — can't find the connection between those; pretty lame. And why the author didn't gave chances to Don Pedro and Don Diego from the first part of story? Only Don Juan met the old wise man that gave him advices on how to capture the bird. Actually, can capture the first time his brother saw it if only knew how to... (or they're too evil and eventually will refuse and turn down the old wise man even if they'd found him?). But, I did like the character of Don Juan: I think the author wants to show us, even good people are not perfect (off course nothing's perfect!), and can sometimes make decisions that are not morally accepted in the society. The three brothers are complicated, described how human behaviour changed by circumstances they went through.
Isn't funny how filipinos are having a hard time reading this in filipino? But i bet you that they can easily understand king james english. How the f is that possible? Filipino language should be taught seriously. And they should stop doing that taglish bullsh*t. Always mixing english to their language and not even bother translating english word into tagalog is literally one of the main reasons why the filipino language is getting destroyed.
Almost 400 years of foreign occupation yet the colonizers never managed to destroy their language, but after they became independent, it is the filipinos themselves who's destroying it.
I remember reading this in Filipino class and I also remember how interesting this was! The only problem was that it was really hard to 'sink into it' for me because, well, this is embarassing... Because it was pretty hard to understand, and I had to read it out loud in my head (so its very slow progress). Even if I have lived in the Philippines most of my life, it has always been hard for me to read whole books in Filipino, since I have always read books in English. It was a very intesting story though, and it had a satisfactorily HEA. The story itself reminds me of another fairytale, although I cant think of it now... Overall, a good read, although I do wish it would be translated to English (sorry!)
Filipino tayo e! Kailangan magbigay suporta! :))
