If you are ever in a situation of being chased by one million demons just because your last name is Sato, what would you do? In this book, self-indulgence king had sent an order to kill those people whose last name is Sato. In 3001, the last name called "SATO" has reached up to 5 million people, which is about 1/20 of the whole population in Japan. So, the king came up with an idea to decrease people with the last name "Sato". The plan was to send one million demons all over Japan and they will be chasing "Sato"s one hour per day. This will last a week and whoever can get away from the demons for the whole week, he or she will get a prize. But if you were caught, you will be sent to a centre and you will be shot to death.
I think this book is horrifying and it makes your heart beat faster. I would recommend this book to those who likes mystery and horror.
[Spoiler Alart] I loved the suspenseful story of this novel, which unfolded as common and peaceful daily life slowly but certainly corrupted by fear of death. It was very interesting that the closer the story goes to the final day, the crazier the whole country becomes. The setting of the world and rules of the game that allow a huge difference in values and ways of thinking between the people chased by the tagger and the bystanders were very well thought out. However, the final scene of Tsubasa Sato killing the king at the end was too obvious that I had predicted long before, so it was a little less exciting than it could have been. In addition, the part where Tsubasa meets with his old best friend is too coincidental to be interesting. Overall, the "Riaru onigokko" was a good book to lose track of time and concentrate on reading.
