While I was going through one of the darkest time of my life, my friend Hardik Sojitra gifted me this book. I simply started reading a chapter a day every morning and in no time I started coming back to life. This book was not the only motivation for me to look with positive attitude at life. But amongst many other things, this book also rescued me to life.
Each chapter is 2-3 pages and tells an important thing and you can ponder on that thing throughout the day and with your rationale thinking, you come up to a conclusion. As a part of 'Paying It Forward', I have also been gifting this book to those who are in need of such an inspiration.

I've a reading buddy who often enlightens me about the must-read books. In one of our conversations, she mentioned about 'Unposted Letter'. That made me realize that I did have that book but it was a while since I had read it. I had last read the book in early 2013 but somehow it had remained in shadows under the effect of its more illustrious cousin 'Most and More'. This time I thought to read 'Unposted Letter' sans any preconceived notions or expectations and found it truly outstanding.

There's a very famous quote by Sir Francis Bacon: 'Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly'. Unposted Letter falls in the last category and like any spiritual book, it needs to be read, reflected upon, inculcated, re-read, re-reflected and re-inculcated. The beauty about this book is it contains simple yet amazing lessons, which, if implemented sincerely, will transform and uplift your life in ways beyond your imagination. I've read 2 books - 'Most and More' and 'Unposted Letter' by 'The Voice Ra' and I found 2 distinct features in his books:

1. They help you to see things with a different and a wonderful perspective. For e.g in any conflict we tend to see who's right and who's wrong however at times, the need of the hour is not right or wrong but 'a mature mind' that can accept differences as a way of life and manage the situation/conflict.

2. These books teach the same principles as one's scriptures teach but they are so beautifully simplified and explained in such a lucid way that it goes straight inside one's subconscious. Therein lies the true power of the author. He has an innate ability to demystify the most complex wisdom in the simplest of forms.

The writings in this book can be easily digested by the current twitter generation. Almost every relationship - father and son, daughter-in-law and mother-in-law, brother and sister, husband and wife is discussed in this book. Open any page and the answer is seeking the reader.

The author strikes an instant chord when he says "If you are happy in life right now, it's not because everything about your life is necessarily going right, but because a relationship that really matters to you the most is going great". Beautiful, isn't it?

A few quotes that I personally love:

'Get ahead of people. Do not get even with them.'

'People feel your love not by what you are with them but by what they can be with you.'

'You make history when you have a cause that inspires you to wake up every morning a little early and keeps you awake a little late and fills every minute in between with the depths of passion.'

'There's as much room as your heart can conceive, as much room as your mind can believe, as much room as your attitude towards life. The only word that can befit life is 'More'.

'Success is failure delayed and failure is success delayed. Neither is failure final nor is success permanent'.

As someone said, the difference between you now and five years later is in the quality of the books you've read and 'Unposted Letter' will definitely help you discover your Mojo.

Let me conclude with one more quote from the book:

'Even if no one believes in you, you got to believe in yourself.
Even if no one believes you can, you got to believe you can.
You'll believe in yourself only when you learn to love yourself.

So, even if no one loves you, you got to love yourself.
In fact, only when you learn to love yourself, the world will begin to love you.

All-in-all, how the world sees you will make only a small difference to you,
but how you see yourself will make all the difference to you.

Go, lose yourself in this book and re-discover yourself!

Instead of reading the book very fast, I took the time to write down how I felt about each piece of advice given in the book. It took hardly 2-3 hours to read the book, but a good one month journey to have understood the book from my own life experiences. Beauty of the book lies in the way the author makes a point without imposing it on the reader. The correct blend of objectivity and subjectivity in this book has helped me appreciate the richness of thought, experiences, anecdotes and morals provided.
On a concluding note, a Phenomenal Read for 2021!

The book did impart some good wisdom. Something that you find to be of similar theme in such books, like the value of time, company, life, of ambition and so on.

The following paragraph did strike a chord in my heart:
"Unused money devalues. Unused talent diminishes. Unused potential decays. Unused machinery gets rusted. Unused time dies. Unused knowledge becomes a burden. What isn't used is abused."

I quite liked his analysis towards the end when he says 'Every good human being has the moral responsibility to be rich'. He does make sense here! Perhaps a bit Utopian but I still enjoyed this ideology!

"Think of surplus in the hands of Mother Teresa. Also think of surplus resources in the hands on Osama..... My call to all good human beings to put their hands up and be counted in building a fraternity of prosperous people... "

However, he has three examples in his book to prove a point, in which he talks about his wife, his daughter and wives in general that inclines towards being a bit sexist and condescending. Other than these three observations which threw me off, I was quite inspired by his words!

It is such a gripping book. I would recommend it to everyone but specially to new readers. Each chapter is 2-4 pages long. You can set targets and easily finish the book without leaving anything in the middle unwillingly.
The book has been written in such a simple manner. On any day if you are low, just open any chapter and surprisingly you will realize the book has become your teacher now and it is guiding you out of your misery.

We all know what to do when the task needs to be done. The point is to be aware and ACT!

Powerful and deep thoughts! Must read! Adding some excerpts from the book, for my easy reference!

If you are happy in life right now, it's not because everything about your life is necessarily going right, but because a relationship that really matters to you the most is going great.

For your children your life will either serve as a warning or as an example; how else can you explain why you came into this planet before them.

Even if a car is damaged, be happy that you are fine; you can buy another car! No point if car is fine and you aren't alive!

It does not matter how much we have, but what really matters is what we do with what we have:
A pawn if used well, will become the Queen.

Pareto principle: Focus on the 20% and 80% off everything in your life will be taken care of.

Every age and every phase of life has some sense of respect associated with it, and you need to respect that.

Life will not postpone our death. So, let us not postpone our life.

The is a subtle difference between waiting and 'waiting for', and in that lies the difference between 'peaceful progress' and 'stressful success'

Remember, on the totem pole of growth, a failure in tenth grade is still higher than a pass in eighth grade. A just-miss in an attempt to scale Mount Everest is still a leg higher than making it to the top of a local hill. The higher the maturity, the higher the challenge. That's how life moulds man.

Marriage , in its true sense, should improve the quality of life of both involved. Marriage can and should be a continuity of life, magnifying the possibilities for both. A good marriage has to be nurtured and developed. Building a great marriage is an art; so get artistic.

Instead of accepting yourself as you are and expecting the world to change, accept the world as it is and you start changing your approach towards the world. Let life be beautiful because of the world. Let life be beautiful in spite of the world.

Let our behaviour not be instigated by forces from outside, but be born out of an internal value based choice. The greatest pride is in riding in your own eyes. How much ever you are tested, wherever you go, whatever you do... Live your character. Let the limitations of other people not limit us. 'someone is wrong' isn't an excuse for us to be wrong.

Emotions - Yes. Emotional drama - No. What is, is. What is not, is not. Genius is knowing when to hold on and when to let go.

Holidays are mandatory. Without brakes, we will break down. "For in six days the lord mate heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed"

It is not about right and wrong. It is about compatibility.

When a weakness, a limitation, can be knocked off, why suffer it and let it incapacitate us for the rest of our lives? Invest some time in reading, knock a weakness of and enjoy its benefit for the rest of your life.

Why is it that you don't want to know what you must know? Just because you close your eyes, it doesn't mean that the world will become blind. Eventually, what just be faced, must be faced. Then, why at all eventually? Why at all postpone? Why at all delay? The first fire you will face tomorrow is the little spark your tried to escape yesterday.

It is a fact that most of us lack the courage to face the facts of life. That we lack courage to face the facts of life is the first brutal fact we must face.

Life is like a game of chess and you play this game with him. After every move of yours, he makes the next move. Your moves are called choices and his moves are called consequences. When you are found to play your game well, he wins by allowing you to win the game.

Be someone's greatest gift.

Your most precious resource is yourself. Are you using yourself enough. It's not that you don't have time; is about managing the resource called time effeciently. It's not that you don't have enough money, and hence you're not rich; it's about managing the resource called money, the little there is, efficiently enough to become rich.

In everything we make, create and produce there is an invisible ingredient, and this invisible ingredient make the difference between the better and better, the ordinary and the extra ordinary. The involvement of the heart in any task performed is that invisible ingredient.

In prayer you talk to existence. In meditation, you listen to existence. In prayer, you listen to your own voice. In meditation you listen to the beyond. Prayer is communication with existence. Mediation is a communion with existence.

There was enough and you still had reasons to frown. The wasn't enough, you still had reasons to smile. Today, you can look back with tears of gratitude for all the times you have laughed, and also look back with a smile at all the times you cried alone. All in all, life filled you with experiences to create a history of your own self, and you alone can remember them all.

If you are not happy with what you have, no matter how much more you have, you will still not be happy. Make a statement with the way you live your life: how I feel has nothing to do with how much I have.

Quality consciousness is expecting more from yourself than what anyone else expects of you.

Cleansing of body is as important as cleansing of soul.
We ought to realise that quality begins on the inside and then works it's way out.
The presence of quality is seldom noticed but the absence of it can never be missed.
Where there is excellence, explanation is not required.

What the world calls a failure, I call it a turning point. God upsets your plans sometimes to execute his plans for you.

Between deep hatred and shallow love, your subconscious will always choose hatred. That's why you can process hurt and hatred for years, and yet, every few days you need renewals of expressions of love. Else, it hurts. See the irony! You are self sufficient when it come to keeping your hatred alive, but need external help to keep your love going. The remedy is to learn to experience deep love. Intensify your expressions and demonstrations of love. Sink in love. Drown in love. Epitomises love. More importantly, learn to tranquilise hurt and hatred with forgiveness and keep it shallow. Eventually, your subconscious will spontaneously choose love over hatred, for the sheer deepth of it.

The seeker asked, "why do bad things happen to good people", the pastor replied,"when the question itself is wrong, how do you energy me to answer it?". The question should have been, "what happens to good people when bad things happen to them" and the reply would be, "they become better people"
"Why is this happening to me?" sets your intelligence in a direction that will lead you to self-pity. In the same scenario ask, "what can I learn from this?"and it will direct you to higher maturity.

The world will follow your example, not your advice.

While existence may punish or reward us based on our intentions, man will punish or reward us only based on our actions. Able actions backed up by noble intentions of the way of a complete man.

The tragedy of life isn't the ultimate death, but the resources that die within you when you are still alive. Unused money devalues. Unused value diminishes. Unused machinery gets rusted. Unused time does. Use it or you will lose it.

We become like the company we keep. What is the point of wasting/putting a seed in a heap of garbage. A seed can become a tree only if it has the company of sand, water and sunlight etc!

Let us realise that even the greatest of industrial enterprises were also once just an idea. Every revolution and every social organisation was once only an idea. Nothing elder is more powerful than an idea whose time has come. What happens to the idea depends on the mindset of the person in whose mind the idea is born, and what he does with that idea.

Let nothing of your outside touch the core of your inside.

Without happiness there is no life. Without dissatisfaction there is no growth. Be happily dissatisfied.

The saline waters of ocean, the contaminated drains. The stinking ponds, the stagnant lakes... From anywhere, when water evaporates into the above and comes down again as rains, it is pure drinking water.
In letting go of your hurt, you will let in peace. A peaceful you is a beautiful you. The good news is, you can be beautiful. The very good news is, it is in your hands. See... Even the right of 'let go' is getting you to smile.

Live your character at any cost; at all costs. Whenever you point out someone's mistake, the immediate retort is,"what am I going that the world isn't doing?" Never let the weakness of the world become a justification for your weakness.

When you were born, you were gifted to this world and this world was gifted to you. Your birthday is your biggest day. If you live well, it will also become a big day for the world.
You do not get what you desire. You only get what you deserve.

Activity without direction is change. Activity with direction is progress.

When lived honestly, life heals itself. The truth you resist is the battle you fight.

Emotional stress is due to thoughts not communicated and emotions not expressed.
You're telling me,"honestly, if I start expressing all my thoughts and feelings, I will hurt the person who matters so much to me. I am telling you,"if you don't, you will hurt the relationship itself".

Every good human being has the moral responsibility to be rich. Surplus in the hands of a good human being will be used to create a better world; the same surplus in the hands of unethical or evil minded person will be used to destroy the world. Think of surplus in the hands of mother Teresa. Also think of surplus resources in the hands of Osama

'Unposted Letter’ is a spiritual and inspirational book that urges the readers to find happiness in every small things.
-
By illustrating the simple with the powerful, this is a book that deals with knowledge and enlightenment and talks about Life as it is, about how it should be led that is bereft of any jealousy and wrath.
-
The content is written in lucid language but the ideas are not new. But however, the simple language with short independent chapters are pure bliss to read. There are 66 short essay types chapters with harder 2/3 pages with great fonts.
-
I felt light hearted and hopeful after reading every chapter. This book is definitely recommended to be read and also fits perfectly if you wish to gift a self help book to anyone.
-
Though if you try to finish this book in one go, you might feel bugged. So don't overload yourself with an urge to finish this book.  Read it at your own good pace for your own good 💕

Amazing book which helps you lead your life in a simple way. Talks about how one should have empathy, be always linked with one's roots, always improving, bettering one's relationship, communicating effectively are a few lessons which I clearly remember. A very small book and the best part is that you can read 10 pages everyday and suddenly you will feel that life is simple after a very hectic or strenuous day. It will change your outlook towards life's petty problems.

Every page in this book is a gem. I took this book as slow as possible to give it time, so that everyday I shall learn something new. This book needs to be in every reader's as well as non reader's shelf. And if you haven't known about this book, I must say DO READ IT GUYS.

The best non fiction book you can ever have.

Some books require you to consume the information slowly rather than reading it at a stretch. This book is one of a kind.

Specifically, this book reiterates various self help points which has already been written down in other books in a very simple manner.

This book motivates you if you are a pessimistic person who thinks they don't have a bright future ahead. If you are optimistic, then there is no point in reading this book as nothing fresh has been told or taught to you through this book.

The various real life examples which has been written in every chapter deserves a special mention because as a reader you will be able to connect most of them to your real life incidents at one point of time.

Overall, it's a good book provided you have never read other self help books or require additional motivation to build something for the humanity or become optimistic about your future.

This is one of the most beautifully written pieces of literature I've read in the recent past. So easy-to-understand, so wise and effective. An ardent fan of the works of Ruskin Bond and Anita Desai that I am, I've always believed that real sophistication and beauty in literature lies in simplicity. Reading this book is as peaceful as sitting by the lakeside, soaking in the fresh air and pondering about life.
This is a book for everyone to read. Do yourself a favor and read a chapter a day, think about it, ruminate, and implement the lesson in your life.

I was browsing through my Instagram feed when I spotted this book. The book’s title “Unposted Letter” and the unknown author mahātria Rā intrigued me. I quickly searched for the book on my Amazon app; I was surprised to see that the book was a best seller and had sold over 2,50,000 copies already. Skimming through the positive customer reviews of the book, I placed my order.

The book comprises of 66 chapters, each chapter not more than 2-3 pages long. This short book is life’s wisdom in distilled form. It has pragmatic answers to a plethora of pertinent questions about life, living, relationships, parenting, success, happiness, forgiveness, excellence… and many more. At first you may say, I already know all this, there’s nothing new. However, what makes this book beautiful & unique is the practical advice it offers you, which, helps to not only imbibe but also live its teachings.

Don’t rush through the book. Read it patiently. Mull over the text whenever it forces you to introspect. There are times the teachings will challenge your thought process, be willing to unlearn and learn new ways for the better.

This pithy book lives up to the introductory sentence that says, ‘Carry me with you in life, and I will carry you through life’. In nutshell, a life changing book. A must read for everyone and worth reading a million times!

Another fantastic creation by Mahatria Ra. Each chapter gives a new outlook to day -today happenings. Personally I do not want to engulf entire writing in one go, as I wish to imbibe it completely. Our take to life is observed keenly .Solutions of our routine problems which we just overlooked, are drawn to attention intelligently.

Found directional at times" if we aren't growing at pace at which we can.........have to take bold decisions....."

It's a treasure to have one copy of it. Deeply dug existing meaning which otherwise remains untraced " academics alone....not complete education." "academics is one aspect......not the only aspect." "there is more to life."

"where there is substantial emotional reserve, mistakes will be tolerated and forgiven........."compels to think about life and size of relationship, and at the same time very touching when says" you are still sufficient when it comes to keeping your hatred alive, but need external help to keep your love going."

should go for it.

It can be put in the self-help/motivational genre. Author has used various quotes, parables and sayings to push through his takes on many day-to-day crisis of personal and professional life. He talks on issues related with child psychology to corporate world. He explains that why good people should amass wealth...and so on.

I would like to recommend it to those who are yet to read a book on this genre or to those who like motivational books.

I would give it 4 out of 5 stars.

-----

A couple of my favourite quotes from the Book :

"You will always be loved as a parent, but you cannot always play the parent. Beyond a point, not everybody can accept a holier-than-thou approach."

"Expectation is not a problem; benchmarking expectation is."

**

And the best one :-

"Recognising the heart behind the material makes it a gift. Even a gift is just a material if you don't see the heart behind the material."

And the above quote explains that why this book is one among the gems I've because it has come from a person with heart of gold.

I don't feel right about marking this book as "read". This is not a kind of book you read once and leave it on your shelf; but the kind of book that you re-read, come back to for answers, open at random times for random wisdom.
Day to day, real life wisdom, guidance have been put in a very simple language with day to day life examples.

This book helps you to put your life, relationships, small, big events in a very different perspective.
It also shares the same problem with other motivational, spiritual books, that it would proved to be of use only when you act on the things you have learned.

The least this book will do is to motivate you to introspect your life and your decisions.
A must read for those who are looking for real life enlightenment.

A nice gift item.

No matter whichever epic your religion follows, I would say, Unposted letters is the modern day Ramayana, Mahabharata, Quran or Bible. The values and knowledge imbibed from those ancient epics is amalgamated into one in a very simple language and illustrations for everyone to get benefited.

Each and every word in this book is a precious gem that shines through from its knowledge behind. Every page is vibrant and full of positive energy.

A very insightful book. I wouldn't put it under the shelf of self-motivation. But it does make you feel better. Every page is a teacher worth looking up to. While reading this book, you might feel like, all these things you already knew... but it helps you question whether you are following it. It is a nice collection of moral science put in simple words. Would've given 5 stars but adaptability of this book's teachings in real-life makes me take that one away...
