"Look at the birds of the air," Jesus taught his followers. This book is the result of a lifetime spent following that teaching. It brings to life the role of birds in the Bible; in the lives of individuals like Elijah, in prophecy and poetry, wise sayings and songs of worship. This book is a study guide for Christian reflection on the avian world, as well as a personal account of the joys of watching birds.
Mark Winter does an admirable job cataloguing the bird references in the Bible. He makes a thorough chapter out of the “top 5” most frequently referenced, and gives good content on other honorable mentions. He also shares from personal experiences and folklore, and even provides some thoughtful questions at the end of each chapter. There’s a lot of work represented in this research and I enjoyed reading through this orni-theological survey!
