An Assassin's Deception

Rate this book
As a rogue assassin, all the rules I used to live by have changed.

I find myself working with four sexy assassin’s who test all of my self-control. Dedicating my life to a greater cause, I’m thrown into a new case - one meant to help rather than harm. If I can just save this missing girl, I know that I’ll be able to make a new life for myself. A life with these men who have become important to me.

It feels so obtainable.

Until my case makes an interesting twist. Everywhere I turn, the League is right there, luring me back into its darkness.

Can I save the girl? Can I truly live outside the League? Or will I lose myself and everything that matters to me while trying?

This is a reverse harem series, recommended for readers 18 and over.

lmfao.. wait what?

An Assassin's Deception kind of fell into the dreaded second book slump. It was cute but, ugh, I have no idea what the hell happened. I feel like nothing really did. Yes, the smut and sex were freaking gold.. but everything else was just meh. Terrible even.

Now what sucks for me is that I actually like this group of people. The first book grabbed my attention and I was dying to dive into this one. However, it was such a let down and that disappoints me so freaking much. I did read through the other reviews and I heard that this series might have a third book in the works. I hope it does because I really want a redemption book.

I fell like nothing really happened in this book, whereas so much happened in the first book. Plus the characters grew more in the first one - not so much in this one. Again, such sadness. I wanted to like this book a lot more than I did.. but I just didn't and couldn't.

Overall, ugh, I seriously hope there's a book 3.

Ummmmmm... lol is that it?

It said “The End” and everything was wrapped up in a fucking flimsy bow, but the author’s notes say there’s another one in the works?

What the ever loving heck is it gonna be about??

I’d like to first state that I’ll personally fucking edit the next book if there is one.
Because whoever edited this book.... didn’t.

I counted more than 3 mistakes. That’s when I start to get annoyed.

It was okay.
The sex: FIRE.
The action scenes: awful.

Excitement/Thrill? None.

Plot who?

Transitions?? WHERE.

I had so many moments where I questioned the amount of time passed because some of it didn’t line up.

Hire a fucking editor.

If this is the end of the very short series then I’m cool with it. Because it was poorly written from the get go.
The potential I saw mostly dissipated during this installment.

The hanky panky scenes were really the only thing holding this book barely together.

Didn’t expect this from Koonce.
Can’t say the same for Wylde (no offense, Born of Embers sucked).

The plot in book 2 is better than that in book 1 (link to review below), but the writing is worse, so the ratings come out even. The characters are still funny, but I feel like I would be fine with stopping the series here. Still, it has some hot scenes!

The MC, Alexa, is much less desperate in this book than she was in book 1, and she no longer constantly obsesses about being part of the guys’ team. However, she continues to be an idiot in other ways, particularly with regard to Rory. For example, she knows that he constantly tries to control his power, so she says, “Why are you afraid to unleash what’s inside? . . . Are you afraid of hurting yourself?” First, so what if he is? Second, don’t act like he couldn’t hurt you too if he unleashed. Then, pondering his constant need for control of his power, she says, “The tension held in his posture, the snap of his words, the constant strain of his muscles all make sense now.” The problem is that I thought she already figured all of that out in the first book. Then she tells Rory that he needs to find a way to manage his power. Super helpful, thanks. That’s like telling a person with depression that they should be happy. And he’s already managing it, anyway. Later, when she and the guys go to confront Derick, she says that Tylin’s powers are “slightly useless” for the mission because “his mind trick abilities are only helpful if the person is relaxed and distracted.” Well, yeah. So distract Derick by all attacking him at once, and there you go. Later, she uses siphoned power to magically confirm that something is the truth and then says that it must be a lie. She’s just very frustrating at times.

She was also unnecessarily bitchy at times. For example, she says that Derick’s power is essentially endless, but then when one of the guys gets hurt, she blames it on Rory’s strict control and hesitance to use his power: “Rory could have ended all of this without lifting a finger.” That’s just blatantly untrue and unfair. She did something similar in the abovementioned idiotic conversation about Rory’s powers. Based on what she felt when she used a tiny bit of his power, she tells him that his power would be manageable if he just tried to manage it. He rightfully puts her in her place, but I was still begging her to just stfu.

A few miscellaneous things about her also bothered me. First, we got the apparently necessary “I’m not like other girls” conversation. Gag. Second, Alexa and the harem end up going to a sex club for their first date (lol), and she acted as if the guys were making some huge sacrifice and making the most romantic gesture ever. Look, they’re into it too. They aren’t suffering.

That said, her narration continued to make me laugh, and her conversation with Jameson’s sister about the guys’ penis sizes was hilarious. I also loved that her mental voice of reason started to sound like Jameson.

Mason continues to be one of my favorites in this book. He’s shy enough that he blushes when he hits on Alexa, but he has no problem joining Alexa in her Tylin-related voyeurism, apparently just for the hell of it. I cracked up at that. He’s the first of the guys to directly address the harem issue, and he just says, “You think I don’t know how you feel about Jameson? He sleeps in bed with us nearly every night.” He makes a valid point, lol. I like that the author gave “the quiet one” the ability to make me laugh as much as I do at the “the loud one.”

Tylin is one of my favorites just because of the voyeurism in his relationship with Alexa (“I don't know if there's room for the amount of voyeurism we’re putting into this professional relationship, but it seems to be working okay for us… Okay, it's not. Not at all.”). As I said in my review of book 1, it’s rare to find one-on-one voyeurism in RH books, so that’s cool. He’s pretty dumb, though. I think it’s super important for the harem members to make sure that they’re all cool with the situation, but Tylin doesn’t ask about it until 86% into book 2. The other guys have already had joint grope session with Alexa, so it’s a bit late to be asking that now.

Rory comes a long way in this book, and I like it. I cracked up when he walked into the bathroom and started peeing while Alexa and Mason were trying to use it for more romantic purposes. He also has a funny Star Lord moment in which he complains about how Thor isn’t as attractive as everyone says he is. He has a bit of stupidity too, though. He held off on kissing Alexa because he didn’t want to have an audience when he kissed her for the first time, so they end up having oral sex (with an audience) before their first kiss, and when they finally kiss, it’s in front of an audience anyway.

Jameson was one of my favorites in book 1, but he disappointed me here. He gets an injury that leaves him blind in one eye, and I was super excited to see an RH book in which someone has a physical disability, but the author really didn’t handle it well. We definitely see the emotional fall-out from it (particularly in one oh-shit moment), but we never really see him struggle to adapt to his situation. The author basically resolves everything offstage by saying that Jameson has been practicing adapting on his own, and then he’s suddenly going about his day business as usual. I’m not sure how much time passed between the injury and his sudden ability to completely handle it, but it can’t have been more than a few weeks. Apparently that’s all he needs to adapt to the changes in his depth perception. Side note, Alexa makes a simply awful pun that I have to think was unintentional because she didn’t acknowledge it at all. When he goes blind in one eye, she realizes that she has strong feelings for him: “But I waited until he lost sight of himself.” . . . Are you kidding me with that shit? So Jameson eventually apologizes for being a dick and says he’s willing to just be her friend as long as they can start over. But then he’s awfully quick to join in on the later group action with her. I guess they had already made out since he said that, but I would have liked to see him hesitate more and wonder if she would allow him to be involved. Near the end of the book, he says that he’s not willing to be just her friend anymore. Look, bud, you made out with her and fingered her since your apology, so I’m pretty sure that statement is redundant at this point.

I love the overall dynamic in the harem. For example, the guys get mad at each other when they mess up with Alexa, and I live for that type of harem instead of the guys-versus-the-girl harems. I mentioned in my review of book 1 that I wondered whether we would get mm in this harem. We didn’t get any outright mm, but we got . . . something. The guys definitely pleasure each other, but it’s always done indirectly or “inadvertently”: for example, “Jameson palms my sex, his knuckles rocking against Rory’s bulge as he teases me slowly . . . pressing every stroke of his hand into the hard erection I feel beneath Rory’s jeans. The rumbling sound of Rory’s groan is in rhythm with my own.”

I mention in my review of book 1 that this series has a serious lack of worldbuilding, and that doesn’t improve in this book. In fact, I didn’t realize that this was supposed to be set in our reality and our world until I saw a reference to Craigslist (I had somehow ignored the earlier references to TV). I still have no idea how the assassins gain their powers, and they apparently only need to train for a few weeks before they’re suddenly all bad asses, and I just don’t buy it.

The story had several confusing elements, particularly in regard to the powers. For example, at one point, Alexa is able to siphon someone’s power without any direct contact with it, though it seemed as if she always needed direct contact before. She later makes a point of touching Rory when she tries to take his power, so I’m not sure whether that’s necessary or not. In the first book, she essentially got power drunk and got power hangovers when she siphoned too much, but siphoning doesn’t have any negative effects in this book, and she can apparently now hold the siphoned power indefinitely without any effort. I was also confused at times because she would suddenly have someone’s powers even though she never mentioned siphoning from them. Apparently Tylin can help her draw power out of Rory, but the whole scene was weird because I have no idea why they thought it would be possible in the first place, and I still don’t know how he was actually involved in the process. We learn in this book that, although Alexa can only stop time for 60 seconds at a time, she can repeat the process with no cooldown time for her power until she runs out of energy. She only does this once, so it seemed like an afterthought, and it makes me wonder why she’s always acting as if she will be in serious danger when the 60 seconds run out if she can just add another 60 seconds. Also, it’s never clear whether Tylin actually reads her mind or not,

Furthermore, I still don’t have any idea what the author means when she says “higher power” in this series, and the book had some other odd moments as well. For example, Rory apparently lost his bed when he gave his bunk to their guest and Tylin took the other, but I thought they had two sets of bunkbeds in addition to the big bed, and two of the guys were out of the house, so he should have been able to just use one of the empty bunks. Later, Derick acts as if he helped found the League, but I thought the whole purpose of the ball in the last book was that Armond wanted to recruit him into the League.

The book also included a huge leap in logic that never made any sense to me. Based on the fact that the girl they are looking for doodled the League symbol before her friend died, Alexa concludes that the League must have killed the girl. She also concludes that the League must have killed every other person who died shortly before an assassin joined the League. She acknowledges that Tylin’s loved one died of cancer, and I can’t remember whether anyone in Jameson’s life died before he joined, but none of that sways her, and her conclusion is never discussed again, though the author presented it as fact.

The story also contained a few contradictions:
• At one points, Derick mentions someone named Vanessa, and Alexa’s responds only by saying that his statements never make sense. However, when someone else says the name Vanessa, Alexa becomes furious. That scene was also weird because the girl said, “The killer wore the same mark, and I’d seen it before. On my mother. Does the name Vanessa ring a bell to you?” I assumed that she meant that Vanessa was the killer, but suddenly Alexa was assuming that they had the same mother.
• Regarding Rory, Alexa says, “I hadn’t realized how exhausting it was hating him,” but she never hated him in the first place.
• After Jameson apologizes, Alexa says that she doesn’t know how to forgive him, but then suddenly they’re making out and it’s never an issue again.
• At 77%, Alexa notices gold sparks around Derick and doesn’t react to them, but at 81% she notices them and says, “my stomach drops straight out of my body.” She should have had that reaction when she first saw them.
• She says that she can’t grip Derick’s power base but then she suddenly can, and I have no idea what changed.
• Regarding the book that the Alexa and the guys were looking for, one of the guys says, “It won’t be safe for her to simply slip back into her normal life until we know what happens next with the League,” but she’s already home, and no one seems concerned.
• Alexa engages in some nice dirty talk but then Tylin later repeats the same thing, and Alexa responds as if she never heard it before: “It’s an astounding question.” Way to ruin it.

I had a few other complaints with the story as well. For example, the guys call her out of the bathroom, where she was pretending to take a shower, and she proceeds to have a lengthy sex scene with the guys in the living room without ever turning the shower off. Furthermore, I gagged at this sentence: “I’ve felt so many different powers in my life, but I never realized how strong love was.” Also, the Anti-League is just a stupid name for their group.

As I said, the writing in this book was even worse than that in book 1. The mechanics had many issues: for example, problems with spelling (e.g., “poll” instead of “pole,” “dear” instead of “deer,” “pane” instead of “plane,” “meld” instead of “melt,” “sexist” instead of “sexiest,” and “vice” instead of “vise”), phrasing (e.g., “wanted ads” instead of “want ads,” “wearing on this conversation” instead of “wearying of this conversation,” and “deep seeded” instead of “deep-seated”), missing apostrophes (e.g., “breaks over” and “wont”), too many apostrophes (e.g., “The only tattoo’s I have” and “Five deadly assassin’s stride”), word choice (e.g., “crunch” instead of “chunk,” “tactful” instead of “tactical,” and “intake” instead of “inhale”), part of speech (e.g., “something that seems similar to euphoric” instead of “ . . . to euphoria”) subject-verb agreement (e.g., “either of use are”), verb tense (e.g., “Almost heart-warming, depend on which way you view it”), unnecessary commas (e.g., “The second’s hesitation that I let pass, hurts my heart”), and missing commas (e.g., “This morning life is perfect” instead of “This morning, life is perfect”).

Several other sentences have so much wrong with them that I don’t know where to start.
• Regarding “I hadn’t of walked away,” I think the author meant “‘ve,” the contraction for “have,” instead of “of,” but neither word should be there anyway.
• The sentences “Just as I’m about to turn back into my sweet, comfortable newborn dear position, the mattress dips. The weight of a big arm wraps around me and the smooth panes of a strong chest melds against my back” have all sorts of spelling issues, but the biggest issue is that the sentence contradicts itself. If Alexa still has her back on the bed, then Rory can’t press against her back.
• “For a group who thrives in delivering information, I’m shocked” implies that Alexa is a group that thrives in delivering information, but the sentence would still have problems even if “for a group” modified the correct noun. In what way do assassins thrive on delivering information?
• In “Somewhere behind me, one of the guys clears their throat, but I don’t drag my gaze from the stranger. Jameson cocks a pale and curious brow at me, a hint of a smirk on his lips,” “their” should be “his,” but the biggest problem is that if Alexa does not take her gaze away from the new guy, she can’t know what expressions Jameson is making.

Other sentences blatantly contradict themselves:
• “I’ve never needed someone to take care of me since I was a kid.” If you needed it when you were a kid, “never” doesn’t work.
• “I can’t decide if I should jump him or answer his question. The chill in the air convinces me to keep my clothes on, so I go with option A.” . . . That’s option B.
• “My hand is cold against his, but I don’t move it away. I let the poor insulation of this tiny loft get the best of me. I’ll freeze my ass off before I ever take a step away from his bed.” Without “won’t” between “I” and “let,” these sentences just don’t make sense together.
• “The hole Rory left there days ago is completely flawless. The only hint that a chunk of the roof was ever missing is the crisp white color of new plaster that lays among the sea of smoke stained paint.” Mismatched paint is a flaw. Furthermore, a flawless hole would be one that hasn’t been filled, so that should be “the ceiling where Rory left a hole days ago.”
• “Rory’s attention never falls to me, but his caress continues until his big hand is covering the span of my leg.” If he’s caressing your leg, he’s paying attention to you.
Other sentences don’t make sense:
• “I claw my way back to surface to drown beneath the waves.” You can’t drown at the surface.
• “The soft, delicate touch skims down between my breasts for him before running a hand.” A touch doesn’t have a hand.
• “His skin against mine is an awakening feeling.” Skin isn’t a feeling.
• “The fierce side of Mason is always quick to call on.” That should just be “The fierce side of Mason is always quick to respond when he calls on it.”
• “I watch him closely as he pulls a beer out, opens it, and then leans back against the kitchen sink instead of cowering back to his seat.” He’s actually cowering where he is now. How would he be cowering if he intentionally did something that would piss her off?
• “And for a girl who controls time itself, I spend the long evening flicking my gaze between those marshmallows and the clock hanging on the wall in the kitchen.” That just feels like a non sequitur.
• “It’s his eerie words he always says about my mother haunts me just as much as his destructive powers.” Ugh. “His repeated eerie words about my mother haunt me just as much as his destructive powers do.”
• “Your calling is to be my predecessor, Alexa Hart.” . . . successor. You mean successor.

Other sentences just flat-out sound bad:
• “It’s like a warning look from Rory, but I can’t really explain it.”
• “Instead, I choose to ruin Rory’s movie he picked out.”’
• “It takes me several moments to capture anything of abnormal details.”
• I can’t add this sentence without giving spoilers, but the dialogue of the big reveal is so unnatural and exposition-filled that I just had to laugh.

I could go on, but I just want to move on to the next book on my list. I don’t think I’ll read book 3 when it comes out. The harem is fully formed now, and I sure haven’t been following this series for its plot, so I feel like everything that I care about has been resolved now.

PROGRESS UPDATES
59% “‘No, I’m… I don’t think I’m dating any of them really. Mason, I’m dating Mason. I think…’ My eyes narrow as I try to remember the facts of my own life. How am I confused about this?” 😂😂😂

86% Jameson’s commentary on Rory and Alexa’s relationship gets me every time 😂: “Rory shrugs. ‘Besides, I never thought I’d have someone in my life again. I didn’t deserve it. Still don’t. But I’m not saying no anymore.’ ‘Shit, maybe you are sweet,’ Jameson whispers.”

Here are my reviews and ratings of the previous book in the series:

So this book was a lot less exciting than book one. I mean for ex-assassin's they really don't act like it. The action was really minimal and I hated that Derek keeps kicking all their asses. And Jameson, my God his freaking eye, was that necessary? I wasn't surprised Derek was her dad but I still think it's kind of a lame plot line that's not new nor exciting. He basically wanted her to turn her into a more powerful future him and also his heir. But as someone who wants to wipe out the human race, I mean what's the point, then you're the only one left smh. There was a lot of relationship building between Alexa and the guys but aside from that and two skirmishes with Derek, nothing else really happens. I'm curious to see how it all ends especially since now everyone is fully accepting of their new relationship and have finally brought her all the way into the fold. It only took her risking her life for them twice lol.

Well this wasn't any way as good as the first one. I liked the first one but found that not a lot happened in this one. We had a few new characters. I didn't really connect to any of the characters and found that they just appeared there was no build up. I felt this was more a romance then anything else. Some of the scenes seemed awkward.

Alexa and the guys are hiding out following the takedown of the leader of the League in book 1. It seems Derek has taken over the League and their little group of "the Lost Five" are at the top of the target list. In the meantime, they take a case to find a missing girl.....which leads them right back to the League's door.

I liked this one better than book 1. We get to know the guys a lot more and we get some answers about Alexa's past. Smut factor jumps to 4.5 out of 5 - it is slow to start, but by the end, Alexa's sexual frustration is definitely satisfied. It should be interesting to see what happens next with these characters and how the author plans to structure the books. There is definitely a hint of a bigger plot angle, but the author could choose to have the gang solve individual cases for a while too.

Okay, so even after finishing this second book I'm still so torn on this series. Because things just don't make sense to me.

First, let me start off by saying that I've seen a few reviews of this book completely bashing it saying the editing was terrible. And while yes, I did see a few errors, it was absolutely positively in no way as bad as the reviews made it out to be. I'm thinking I'm going to see an error on every page. And that is most definitely not the case with this book. They were so minor that I wasn't even upset about it. I mean what do you expect when you read an indie book? I've noticed books with more famous authors with mistakes. One being a Sarah J Maas book. I also noticed a mistake in a Leigh Bardugo book. Mistakes happen. Things are missed. It happens. Get the fuck over it people. Jeeze.

Anywho! This book starts off only a few weeks after the first book ended. And this book totally took a turn that I was not expecting. I was thinking they were going to be plotting and working towards taking down Derek. But for the first half of this book all you get is Alexa and the guys working a missing persons case. And I was entirely too confused. I couldn't understand why it was important. I understood that you have to understand how they make their money. But this missing persons case kind of took over and then it was clear it was the main focus of the storyline. And again, I was super confused.

But all is revealed and I ended up understanding what I was originally confused about. But now I'm confused about totally new things that happened in this book. And it seems my questions won't be answered since the end of this book just says "The next Huntress book is in the works and will be out." That's it. That's all you get. But whatevs. I'm definitely going to be reading the next book when it finally is released.

Oh! And let me touch on that smut. It FINALLY happened people. You FINALLY get a menage scene and my gosh was it absolutely HOT! <3

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

Things are really getting good now! Alexa and her harem of ex-assassin are starting to get used to each other now though there is still lots of tension as some still fight the attraction. On top of the great character development we also gets lots of danger, twists, and even a few turns to really keep us hopping as the story progresses. The League thinks they have things under control but I bet this group will give them a run for their money before it is all said and done. If you like fantasy RH books then you should really give this one a try. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

Title: An Assassin's Deception
Series: The Huntress #2
Source: Kindle Unlimited

I usually round up the story in a quick synopsis, but that's the problem. I feel like there was no story. This book was filled with nothing but a few tender moments between Alexa and the boys, and a lot of steamy moments...oh and a side plot that I think was supposed to actually be the main plot about a missing teenager. Overall, this book wasn't anywhere as good as the first. It didn't have the same energy or vibe and I don't know how they'll continue the series if I'm honest.

Tensions and surprises

The story of Alexa goes on with a fight to save herself and the men she loves. The world is changing and at the front is a huntress with four sexy men. Can’t wait for the next one.

5 stars for An Assassin's Deception by A.K. Koonce. This is book 2 in The Huntress trilogy. I am really loving this series. The relationship between Alexa and the guys are growing deeper. The more we read the more we are learning about all of their past. We find out who Derek really is and that he is out to get them. They also get their first case as a team with Alexa. They need to find Allison , who ever she is. I am loving these characters and just how action packed everything is. I can't wait ot finish the rest of this series.

2.5 stars for me. Honestly it was probably better than 2.5 stars in comparison to other 2 star books I've read but it was not anywhere near as good as the first one. So I felt like in comparison to book 1 this is where I'm left at. I'm just going uncover it and have it all hang out here. It seemed, to me, like book 2 was hastily thrown together. It didn't seem near as cohesive and thought out as book one to me and to be honest it really fell flat. I loved that we got to know the characters and their backstories a little better that and the developing relationship with the FMC I felt was done well. That gave all the guys more dimension to me. However; plot wise the continuation of the story was pretty weak, like almost an after thought. Battle/Action scenes really didn't make much sense in all honesty because the way the battle "sounded" it was like the FMC was really owning but the way the battles would end up it was almost like maybe the author was exaggerating how good she really was. It was almost like they were running out of time and just threw something together there at the end to buy more time maybe? Even Hart felt a little off to me. She just wasn't her bad A, sarcastic, banter ace self this go round. Though there were some funny moments she just wasn't really herself to me. I'm not even sure what the heck the ending was, it was way more of a beginning than anything and though we got some reveals we didn't get all the answers. I'm just a little disappointed I think. This really could have been great I think. I kind of wish this could be redone a little because after book one I was super excited for this series but now I'm not sure if I really want to revisit this again.

I enjoyed An Assassin's Deception. It was a great follow-up, and it still follows through on action, some intrigue, bad*ssery, and also finds time for relationship and character development.

We're picking up with Lex and the other Anti-Leaguers in a precarious position. They need to find a way to keep themselves safe from Derek and other members of the League while also keeping themselves afloat (especially in Lex's case since her bank balance is depressing). So we've got two arcs going on: the continuing strain of hiding from/fighting against the League as well as the missing persons case that Lex and the guys have taken on.

Each story arc is compelling and kept my interest. There were a LOT of surprises, and way more family drama than I was expecting after book 1- there's so much gossip that you could sit around and whisper about it for days.

What I liked the most about AAD was that we're seeing the characters grow a lot as individuals but especially in terms of their relationships with Lex and how she can alter or even improve the little family they've built before she came along. We get some background on each of the guy's families and their reasons for joining the League, and it's not just emotional baggage. What Lex learns actually helps them figure out something really important about the League!

I really liked all of the men by the end of AAD. I still stand by my original favorite, Mason aka Mouse, but there are new sides revealed of Jameson, Rory, and Tylin that make them quickly develop into real contenders that readers are sure to continue drooling over. There's a fair amount of steam (lots of teasing), and a big scene at the end that might just require some fanning to try and keep cool. I read the book while at the gym, and I just kept looking around and making the font smaller, so the old woman next to me wouldn't think I was a perv*rt.

Overall, An Assassin's Deception was fast, emotional, and, of course, still hot. Lex is really starting to define her connections with the other Anti-Leaguers, and I love the way that Koonce and Wylde are making this little family grow. Definitely a must read for fans of the series and its authors.

Liked it better than book 1

So I did like this one more than book 1 but I think it’s because I wasn’t so focused on the dynamics and details of how the 5 of them became a team. Even though nothing really happened in this book to clarify that from book 1, this one had plenty of drama and excitement.

Alexa still doesn’t impress me as a female lead. I still find her to be lacking and not living up to the self proclaimed title of the best assassin or even a great one. She still makes plenty of mistakes and lets her emotions rule her decisions a lot.

The concept of the powers that are bestowed upon these assassins and the working of the League itself has more clarity in this book compared to book 1. Things make a little more sense to me and I am not asking a thousand questions anymore.

One of the things that bothers me in both book 1 and now book 2 is the 4 ex-assassins. I didn’t mention it in my review on book 1 because I couldn’t figure out how to word it so here’s to trying... These 4 ex-assassins have the same upbringing within the league Alexa did so it is naturally more difficult for them to trust anyone but themselves. When she first appeared in their lives to kill them all, they didn’t react how I would have expected them to. I didn’t expect them to allow her to infiltrate their team and help with their mission especially when she never proved herself to them, at least that is my opinion. The creation of the 5 of them coming together seemed a little too convenient and it seems it was just for the sake of making it a RH.

Even though my reviews have been full of complaints, I still plan on finishing the series since there is only 1 book left. Even with all my complaints, I still enjoyed the overall plot, it’s just a few details that irked me. Do I plan on sticking this series in my “Worthy of a Re-Read” list? Probably not.

An Assassin’s Deception is the second book in the Huntress series and even better than the first!

Alexa and the guys are in hiding after killing the leader of the assassins, and trying to get by doing odd jobs that utilize their unique skill sets. A girl and four guys living together in a one bedroom apartment isn’t ideal, and Alexa gets pretty up close and personal with them all!

This story was very very steamy which I loved! From the first scene throughout the entire book Alexa gets a lot closer to the guys and slowly begins breaking down some walls they all have up.

We get some new secondary characters in this book which I also really enjoyed. These authors do not skimp in their books giving us plenty of characters to enjoy besides the mains! I loved the addition of some family members in this story because it gives a deeper look at Alexa and the guys as well. With these new characters comes more history and background that really helped fill in some blanks in Alexa’s past.

An Assassin’s Deception is a great read that had me laughing out loud one minute and falling off the edge of my seat the next! I can’t wait to read the final book in this series by these very talented authors!

This book was cute!! Mason (mouse) was the quiet dominant sweetheart. He was so open and honest and just all in from the start with her it was so nice that she didn’t really have to question his feelings. And in his nature she was never pressured or rushed to feel anything she wasn’t ready for. And Jameson. The flirt. He is a big softy too. And her protector?? Rory was the one who denied it for so long and he might have been the one to need her the most. She’s as good for him as he is for her and they keep each other on their toes. Tylin is the one I just was not all 100% on. Yeah he was the leader but honestly could have done without him. It gave a lot of sexual tension but any of the guys could have done that. The ending was so confusing. Her father just dissolved? After she killed him?? But they couldn’t confirm he was dead… and then her sister just up and left and all of a sudden they have a new group going. And they don’t want to be killers and put their skills to other uses so become what? Like super heroes? Security guards?? I don’t know….

Undeniably AWESOME

There just simply aren’t enough words to describe how great this second installment is. It is soo worth reading over and over again!! I can’t get enough of all the characters plus the new ones! I’m excited to read more about Scarlet and Allison. So glad there’s MORE progress between Alexa, Rory and Tylin. Mason, sweet as ever, definitely doesn’t disappoint. Jameson, holy guacamole, this guy.

A very enjoyable read that will have you seated at the edge of your chair and reaching for the box of tissue from the beginning all the way till the end. This book has everything you’re looking for if you want to get lost in the fantasy world. Even with all the challenges they’re up against, it makes you want to live in their shoes and take a wild spin around the block with them. There are not enough words on how I’m highly anticipating the next book to come out! AK Koonce and Harper Wylde have outdone themselves!

Great follow up

I read book one. Loved it. So when book two came out, I of course got it. In book one, the group was sort of still finding their own dynamics and trying to deal with a bad guy. In book two, the relationships intensify, more are added and again someone is out to get our heroine.
I really liked the world building. It was clean, well thought out and made sense. The rules are clear. I also really liked the characters. Our heroine is a badA before the guys and stays that way afterwards. Too many books have an awesome FMC be strong and when a guy shows up she suddenly becomes useless. Not here. She is an integral part of the team and not just an easy lay. The guys are great as well. They each have their own demons but they also have moments where they give glimpses into their soul.
Overall I would recommend this series.

I didn’t think I could like Alexa more but I LOVED this character! The authors did such an amazing job creating this dynamic and multifaceted kickass woman. She is tougher than tough, sexy when she want to be and just as stubborn and prideful. But there are moments when she allows herself to be vulnerable with the other lost four.

The intensity was turned up to eleven in this book. New characters were introduced and those we thought we knew took us by surprise. The story was hot. The dance between Alexa and Tylin. The unknown but flickering interest with hulking Rory. And the dynamic with Mase and Jameson. Never mind a missing girl, sisters barging in and soon to be ex-assassins who you can’t trust trying to help. Eleventybillion stars!

Decent continuation, but where was the editor

I wanted to like this one, but it was so hard to enjoy it when it was riddled with typos and grammatical errors. There were so many missing words and letters. I’m usually not that picky about typos, they seem to be very common in indie books but this one just had too many to ignore. There were other issues that a good editor should have caught as well. For example, at one point the main character is internally debating whether to do one thing or the other and the sentence in something like ‘I didn’t have time for blabla so I went with option A’ but actually she was going with the second thing. I had to read that part over and over to make sense of it.

Nice, but...

I liked the development of Rory and Alexa's relationship but Tylin's felt rushed. Mason and Jameson were fine and I enjoyed the steamy scenes. It just felt like some of the plot was so underwhelming. Oh track down some no name girl... insert plot twist... be tracked down by the Big bad from book 1...insert star wars voice...I am your father. Sorry, I do not like giving bad reviews. I actually really liked book 1. This one just felt flat and all over the place for me. What was up with that itty-bitty little house/apartment they were holed up in? I mean they can make easy money... just irritated me a bit.
Overall nice read for the characters, but overall plot development was meh.

I somehow finished the book. I kept reading thinking "a good part is going to happen soo I just know it", and then I get to the end of the book where the only good thing happens. That's it though. The only major sex scene, that happens at the end of the book, is the only good aspect of this book...heck this entire series. I don't know what's going on in this story, I don't think the AUTHORS know what's going on in this story, I don't think THE UNIVERSE knows what's going on in this story. I read a whole bunch of -nothing-. We find out nothing about the characters really, we don't know what 'the program' is, we don't know why or how or when the assassin's league started, we don't know anything.

I've given up on this plot-hole-riddled series that needs edited and actual story guidance.

it was pretty good. It introduced some new things I didn’t feel like it came from nowhere and the relationships between the main characters totally evolved and grew with them. while it wasn’t as interesting as the first book, I still liked it for what it was and I did like the new aspects introduced into this book.

all of the big surprises in this book were kind of predictable. I was happy that the book had closure which is not very common for series books since many leave cliffhangers to keep some sort of suspense. overall it was a fun book that grew from the first one and was not repetitive.

Wow...just wow!! This book is even better than book 1 in the series! It has a sexy, snarky, powerful female and 4 guys who are captivated by her! I loved how we learnt so much more about all 5 of the ex-assassins and we really start to see how Lex becomes the glue for the guys and how they all become her world! This book is full of steam, power, action and emotion...as soon as I finished I went back and read book 1 again just to read about their beginnings once more! Highly recommended and cannot wait for book 3!

Holy geez that was intense and oh so Hot!! Alexa and her *merry band* of ex-assassins are steaminess all over. A lot of surprises involving their job and a lot of revelations too. Intriguing storyline with interesting characters. Seamless and flawless co- authoring. Worth the wait for book 2. All the great things you want in a great book, drama, action, conflict, emotions and Alexa is awesomely sassy. Both Assassins Death and now this one have been added to my reread list and I can't wait for the final in the trilogy in 2019. Fabulous series so far and a thoroughly entertaining read.

Hmmmm.... one thing straight up - waaaay to short! I wish it was longer and less rushed
our huntress Alexa and her assassin harem have a few teething issues in settling in with each other but we’re resolved with only a few conversations... too easy, too quick. The big bad guy and the battle/ attack scene was really rushed and seemed all a bit confusing .. not enough was explained. I wasn’t gripped by the story, I really enjoyed the first book but felt like this story line just needed a bit more thought.

An Assassin's Deception: A Reverse Harem Series (The Huntress Series Book 2)

I am really enjoy this series. The relationships between Alexa and the guys are growing deeper. The more I read the more we learn about all of their past. We find out who Derek really is and that why they are out to get them. They also get their first case as a team with Alexa. I am loving these characters and just how action packed everything is. I can't wait to start book 3 … definitely recommend this book 📕 / series 📚!!

Amazing!!!

This is book 2 of the Huntress series and it does not disappoint! Book 1 was so good but this one is even better. You got to learn so much more about the characters. There were some shocking things learned during this book. It did get a little emotional at times. This is one series that should be read and then read again. It will not dissapoint. You can’t go wrong with a Kicka$$ female MC and her harem of hot men.
