This series set centers around a coven of witches that are cousin who live in Silver Hollow, New Hampshire. This town is a paranormal species epicenter, with vampires, werewolves, witches and humans all living together in mostly harmony. I break down each book with a short synopsis (more detail under actual book titles,) and at the end bring them all together and rate the set.
1. A Spell of Trouble Feb. 7-14, 2020 Four stars. When a dark witch has everyone in Silver Hollow scared that the Committee will come down hard on them. The Quinn cousins, led by Issy and her young familiar Bella, a Pomeranian, search for clues before The FBPI (Federal Bureau of Paranormal Investigation,) solve it. The FBPI is led by Des and Stan. The previous a handsome dude that Issy falls for, Stan the creepy dude that wants to send every paranormal to Area 59, the facility that experiments on paranormal.
2. Spell Disaster Feb. 14-17, 2020 Three stars. Des has left town, and Issy is confused about how she feels about that. In the meantime, the Quinn cousins try to find a demon that inadvertently materializes from their favorite neighbor Enid, and witch who has a pig for a familiar. A member of the Committee shows up to watch over the town, but it seems he aspires to something else.
3. Nothing to Croak About Feb. 17-18, 2020 Two stars. Dex has come back and Issy and Bella (who now is speaking a lot more telepathically to Issy,) are thrilled...well the doggy more than Issy. A lot of mushy scenes in this, but the plot is about a witch’s dying curse that has toads running amok in Silver Hollow, and another death that seems related to a murder that happened a decade ago.
All three books were entertaining (and had some LOL moments) to read. The first book was by far the best; second book good, and the third just OK. If there wasn’t so much focus on the mush in the third book. It would be just as good as the second book. The mush felt like filler, which is too bad since I really like this series, and Leighann Dobbs is one of my go-to writers for cozy mysteries involving animals who take a major presence in the stories.
Leighann Dobbs never fails to write a book that is a joy to read. Couple that with Traci Douglass as a co-author and this series rocks. There are now two more books in the series as well and I look forward to it continuing further.
I have read the boxes set of the first three books and didn't move for two days. It was snowing outside and I was enamored with the Quinn cousins and the town. I enjoyed these cousins and their crazy world. I am looking forward with more of their adventures.
I really enjoyed reading this box set. If you're a fan of witches and mysteries with telepathic pets, you'll enjoy this series. I'm looking forward to continuing on with future books in this set.
I enjoy quirky books with fun characters. I also love that it is set in New Hampshire (where I am from) and about witches (I have some ancestry with accused witches). These were fun and easy to read.
I really love the mysteries, and not just the endings, but the investigative process leading up to the uncovering the bad guys. It was a little difficult connecting on a personal basis with the characters. But after reading all 5 books in the series to date, it appears the author will disclose more personal information about the characters as the series progresses. The first 3 books were about Issy and Dex. Gray will be the focus in book 5. Very interesting series.
The Quinn's are excellent, they can be hysterical, and just a little sarcastic, and always found in the middle of every murder mystery. The are an amazing family, and they always have each others back. These first three books are defiantly worth the read.
If you are looking for well-drawn, believable characters; well-drawn, but not bogged down, descriptive settings; and logical mysteries, these books are some you would be wise to investigate.
