He is the one that never looks her way. He is handsome and strong. He is rough around the edges and mean. He is everything she’s ever wanted. He doesn’t even know she exists. Her life is a joke.
She doesn’t step on cracks in the sidewalk. She laughs at inappropriate times. She talks when she shouldn’t. She is clumsy and trips on air. She is finally on his radar. God help her now.
Lani Lynn Vale is married to the love of her life that she met in high school. She fell in love with him because he was wearing baseball pants. Ten years later they have three perfectly crazy children and a cat named Demon who likes to wake her up at ungodly times in the night. They live in the greatest state in the world, Texas. She writes contemporary and romantic suspense, and has a love for all things romance. You can find Lani in front of her computer writing away in her fictional characters world...that is until her husband and kids demand sustenance in the form of food and drink.
I’m obviously NOT with the majority on this but I just...can’t!
The heroine - while I knew she was going to be a mess - was just too OTT and the Hero was just too weak for me taste.
She pined for the Hero but never did anything about it..she NEVER even tried to be with anyone else. She preferred to be a wallflower but then got mad when no one noticed her. He was your typical popular jock in high school but I didn’t find him that much better as an adult. They worked at the same school - in a very small town..where everyone knew everyone- for 5 years and NEVER noticed her! In the current timeline he met her a few times and STILL didn’t recognize or remember her! Plus, the fact that he let the OW touch him and feel him up - a OW he had sex with BTW - AFTER he was in a relationship with the heroine was a huge turnoff. He knew that it bothered the heroine BUT still let it happen...repeatedly!
Also, their relationship? WTF? After like the 3rd or 4th time he’s met her in the current timeline he ask her out, she agrees, they go to his house to eat pizza, end up in bathroom due to a storm warning, she BLURTS out that she’s a virgin and the immediately have sex right there in the tub...what the actual fuck??!! That’s pathetic! From that point on I skipped all of their sexual encounters.
Overall, I found the story very shallow and no character development. I didn’t end up liking either character and if this is the standard for LLVs writing I’ll be passing from now on.
I loved Raleigh and Ezra. Raleigh was clumsy and adorkable and Ezra was absolutely perfect for her once he realized she existed.
Raleigh has known Ezra for most of her life but until recently, she had been invisible to him. I love that there is no excuse for who they were as teenagers. Sometimes you’re a shithead and then you get to grow up and learn from life. Ezra’s growth was exponential and he became a loving, caring, mature person that suits Raleigh to a tee. Their chemistry was off the charts.
The plot was interesting and dealt with a sensitive issue in a very mature and tactful manner. It was different from how that particular scenario is handled (it’s actually a popular trope of its own) and I appreciated the contrast. It was more true to how the scenario would play out in real life than the fantasy the trope gives readers looking for that niche. I read the trope so I’m not knocking it, but I can see the value in how it’s addressed in this book.
I’ve come to love the voice that Ms. Vale lends to her books and she has easily become one of my go to authors. This was a great beginning to a new series. I can’t wait to read the next book!
Complimentary copy received and voluntarily reviewed.
It's not easy for authors to strike that balance between humour and heavy subject matters and in saying that... unfortunately, this book doesn’t quite manage to do it either. I wasn’t particularly impressed with the way the topics of bullying, PTSD trauma, sexual harassment were handled. It just didn't seem necessary is what I mean.
The romance was okay… Judging from the blurb and cover, I thought this was going to be a sports romance, but it wasn’t, it’s actually a small-town romance between two teachers (the hero is a coach...). Being a teacher myself, I’m always interested in seeing how teacher romances play out, but I ended up skimming most of the book because I felt like the heroine’s obnoxiousness overshadowed the story. There’s an endearing sort of klutzy, and then there’s downright stupid, ya know?
I’m going to give this new-to-me author the benefit of the doubt. Judging from other reviews, it seems like readers who didn’t enjoy this book, enjoyed her other stories.
Spoilers and random thoughts ahead, 2.5* rounded up for now but definitely might be changed
I hated, hated, hated the fact that he's known her so long and never SAW her. I mean they weren't living in a bug city, they went to the same high school, same college and worked at the same place for five years so how could he never notice her?!!!!! When he finally saw her however he was the sweetest thing ever Their relationship progress was weird as hell in the beginning. He asked her out for pizza while at the house a storm comes up they go into the bathtub for safety and she blurts out she didn't want to die a virgin and that's it! They dive in each other and have sex! That made no sense Learning he'd slept with the OW pissed me off. She was forever in his space and he was clueless. That would've upset me with any OW but she was his ex fling so that pissed me off royally and he never put a stop to it, just kept brushing it off! The h has crushed on him seemingly her whole life , I wanted her to make him work for it but really she was all in from the moment he gave her a shot She saw him date lots of OW in his past and still gets this OW in her face every minute Her inner thoughts about him and what she'd do if he only asked made me cringe I didn't like that she went to apologise to him after she laid out her feelings. I felt she was entitled to that moment dammit The OW plot kinda doesn't make sense after she was caught having sex with the student. What was the point of her hanging off the H? To throw off suspicion?? Idk It sucked that I didn't enjoy this more, the H really was a sweetheart Bummer
Not really a 4 star read, but I just enjoyed it. Loved the characters even though the clutze thing was taken to extremes. Usually that would bug me, but as it didn't phase the H, it didn't bother me.
Another read where the h has crushing on the H for a decade and he never notices her til NOW. when he accidentally gives her a bloody nose with an embarrassing shopping item. I have to admit I was hooked after that. I was expecting the story to be painfully awkward because of Raleigh's clumsiness, but it always seems to steer clear of too much wincing. Ezra is the man she has focused on since high school when she sat behind him and he never noticed her. Now they both work at the high school but he still doesn't notice her until 'said' scene at Target.
Is there a reason he didn't notice her and did I think he bounced back from such atrocious neglect??
There's not a lot to the plot. Mostly just them getting to know each other, with entertaining side characters. BUT the one drawback to the story was the OW. Sorry... but she did but annoy the crap outta me. I knew Ezra didn't encourage her, but HE DIDN"T DISCOURAGE HER!!!
So that was the one drawback and she was only an annoyance now and then. The POV alternates between Ezra and Raleigh so you are in no doubt about his feelings.
Hissy Fit is the first in a new series by Lani Lynn Vale and I am very excited about it! Most of her other series are MC clubs or police, but the Southern Gentlemen is neither! Here are the top reasons I clicked with Hissy Fit:
The characters are teachers. Teachers are amazing! Raleigh is a great name (and a town I lived in and loved)! You can relate in some way to Raleigh's struggles-either her clumsiness or her invisibility will resonate with readers.
So, Ezra, our hero is a popular former jock who is now the football and baseball coach. Raleigh has been pining for him since high school but he literally has no idea she even exists. They have a hilarious meet cute that perfectly introduces Raleigh. Ezra begins to realize he has been totally blind. He can't fathom how he missed Raleigh all these years. Not just high school but college and now they teach at the same school and he had never really 'seen' her. Once he does see her though, he is laser focused on her. Lots of swoony moments.
Raleigh is clumsy beyond normal and socially a bit inept, but likable. She is also a virgin who reads smutty novels. She has a bit of verbal diarrhea too. How can you not be charmed by her?! While her traits are all a bit over the top, it didn't make it too difficult to find ways to relate to her. I'm not that clumsy (because, honestly, I don't think ANYONE is), but I have tripped over nothing, ripped my pants while wearing them, etc. So you might find Raleigh over the top, but I think you will relate to her anyway.
Finally, I have to say how thrilled I was to see a student teacher relationship portrayed as the illegal and manipulative act it is and not as some trumped up love story. The teacher in this book who engages in a relationship with a student ruins that student's life. Its not about consent because a teenager is always at a disadvantage in a situation like this. It is 100% wrong, all the time. I get very frustrated with books that romanticize student/teacher relationships because they are unhealthy and inappropriate. Thank you Lani Lynn Vale for giving readers the real trauma that can come from these types of interactions.
Hissy Fit was an enchanting story. I fell in love with Ezra and Raleigh and they kept me up long past my bedtime. I regret nothing! This new series Vale is building captivated me; I'm looking forward to more of these characters (Camryn).

Heroine constantly gets humiliated as well as is humiliating herself with everything she is thinking and doing - this was just ridiculous. She had no dignity and Pride at all. She and The Hero were absolutely unlikeable - The story definitely was not funny - and The writing made me cringe real Hard.
On 36 % all of that Shit got topped with unprotected sex with the- of course what Else - Virgin heroine. No thanks, I am out.
First try of LLV and Most definitely my last. Next.
I wasn't reading for long before I realized that I loved this story. The characters, their chemistry, the subplots... I loved this book!!
Like the ninny I am, I read this series out of order, but it didn't even matter in the grand scheme of things. These books truly do read as standalones. I did find this one to be a more well-rounded and developed story than the ones that followed it, which only made me enjoy it more.
This is the story of Raleigh and Ezra. She's crushed on him for most of her life. He didn't even know she existed until recently. She hero-worshipped him and he didn't know how much weight his kind words and actions carried with her. While she was mooning over the most popular guy in school, the football star, he vaguely knew she was there. Nothing she did got his attention until she was a grown woman who embarrassed herself in front of the man of her dreams. And he could never look away from her again.
I loved how the author illustrated the growth of these characters. Raleigh may still have been the awkward, accident-prone, hot mess of a person as she was growing up, but she had evolved into an incredible woman with so much heart. However, it was Ezra whose strength of character shined the most. He went from being an oblivious jock to an amazing, intuitive, compassionate man. The ways in which he cared for Raleigh had me swooning all over the place. She owned him every bit as much as he owned her!
And again, with this story, Lani Lynn Vale has proven why I will be one of her staunchest supporters. She gave me a story full of heart, heat and humor that I was only sad because it ended. Luckily there are still tons of her books I have yet to read and I'm going to happily make my way through them. Who knows? Maybe I'll even get to see these charming characters again 😊😊
The book wasn’t bad but I felt terrible for h. She had a huge crush on H since high school (they had a class together even) and he didn’t even know she existed, she was completely invisible to him (they worked in the same HS for 5years) while she had to saw him dating other girls 😣. That he regretted that and call himself a fool a few times helped, but then the crazy coach that was flirting and touching his arm all the damn time (things HE allowed) told h that, the same morning he notice her, he had spent it in her bed... Seriously?!?!? He couldn’t tell her he had a fling with the crazy woman?!?! He even laughed at her jealousy thinking it was cute 🤬🤬🤬 Yeah, everyone has a past and she knew he was a player but the situation with the coach wasn’t nice, he shouldn’t let her touch him freely, not even his arm, just out of respect for h...
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Quite seriously, why is the pining doormat heroine always a virgin - absolutely pathetic! And HE is of course a manwhore for years for her to witness in action with OW. Absolutely NOT a love story. A pathetic sexist story.
GAH!! You guys!!! Hissy Fit is the perfect example of why I loveeee Lani Lynn Vale's stories. It was funny, swoony, heartwarming and absolutely addicting. Ezra and Raleigh were delicious and delightful and another reason why this author should be on everyone's #autoclick radar!!
When accident prone Raleigh Jolie Crusie falls at the feet of her lifetime crush, Ezra McDuff - town bad boy and now high school football and baseball coach, she never expects to get on his radar. But with every clumsy fall and wobble, Raleigh gets more and more of Ezra's attention and makes him realize what he's been missing was right in front of his face the entire time.
I have been looking forward to this new series the minute I read the blurb and knew that this author would deliver and then some. I loved how caring and protective Ezra was and how he cherished Raleigh. He might not have seen her and her feelings for him at one time but once she literally fell into his life, his world was forever changed. I adored their love and quick banter and can't wait for more in this series! 5 stars! ~Ratula
This was a really enjoyable read that started off strongly but then fell a little bit short for me.
Ezra is the gorgeous, talented , popular football coach at the High School both he and the heroine attended as children. He could have lived the high life but chose to come back to his home town and so he is still the town hero. Raleigh is pretty much his opposite. She is a teacher and not really popular because she is either invisible to people or they see her as a ditzy , clumsy girl who trips over nothing. Ezra is clearly experienced with women but Raleigh is a virgin.
Ezra finally notices Raleigh when she has a calamitous moment in front of him. That was something I found odd - he had been at the same school as her as a student (albeit 2 years behind) and then they taught at the same school for nearly five years and he never noticed her or realised she was connected to a family the whole town knew of. It sounded as though , whilst she had had a lifelong crush on him , he had actually been a bit unpleasant in school. Having said that , he was a sweet guy now he was all grown up.
I liked Raleigh as a heroine for the most part. She is very much the underdog and her inner resilience shone through. I didn't think she needed to be as clumsy as she was made out to be and for me it overshadowed the story a bit. But that is just my opinion.
Ezra gave me mixed feelings. I loved how he fell for her and I must say the scene where they seal the deal together was a really good one. I wanted him to brush off his ex hook up off a bit more but equally this serves part of the story line so I get why he didn't but it was irritating. However, he has no emotional attachment to her and he is faithful to Raleigh. I thought his character seemed different again though later in the book - just look out for the bit where he discovers Cross Fit and you'll get what I'm saying. Generally though , he was likeable.
I liked the secondary characters -Ezra's family are hilarious and Morgan broke my heart! I think I would have liked some things in the story developed a bit more but overall it was a good solid read that made me smile, cry and swoon a little too. I will absolutely be reading the next one in the series about Flint and Cam.
I am fairly new to Lani Lynn Vale, but since I read my first book of hers I have had her as one of my go to, one click authors and I'm slowly making my way through her library. Hissy Fit hit my TBR but it wasn't on my priority list since she has so many amazing sounding books to read. But when I was offered the opportunity to get my hands on an audible copy I jumped at it.
Normally I am not a huge audiobook listener as I find it hard to concentrate with toddlers running around. But having a weekend away with hubby I got to spend the day in bed listening to this and it was awesome.
Firstly I want to say that the narrator's were perfect. Their voices were great. Being Aussie sometimes the accents can be a little jarring or distracting but these voices worked beautifully for me.
Now in regards to the actual story. It wasn't my favourite. Which could be in part due to my expectations from the books I have read. But I found it a little boring. I was expecting the drama to be more dramatic so when it happened I was all "oh is that it?" I was expecting more.
Raleigh was a sweetheart and I liked her from the start but Ezra didn't really do it for me. He wasn't alpha enough and I never felt like he gave enough consideration to Raleigh. If I didn't get his point of view I probably would have hated him. But luckily his point of view proved how much he loved her he just didn't show it as much as I want in a book boyfriend.
Raleigh needed to be a little more assertive. If someone else had their hands on my husband and he didn't back the hell away fast his arse had better be groveling and it better never happen again. Especially if he has had his penis previously in this same person. And said person is a bitch to me to boot and he doesn't give her even a gentle verbal slap down just nope.
The only saving grace for Ezra really was him saying she deserved more from him but geez if your aware of that issue throw in some action. Although to his defense I think he was just oblivious and I really felt that he didn’t see anything but Raleigh after he finally noticed her.
So maybe it's just that I have high expectations for the men in my books. And that's what I expected from Lani Lynn Vale. The full, growling, possessive, protective alpha male. And Ezra wasn't that but I loved Raleigh so much I wanted that for her.
All that said I did enjoy my six hours listening to the lovely voices of the narrator's. And having it in dual point of view meant that although Ezra wasn't what I wanted him to be I couldn't hate him because he did love Raleigh. And he knew how beautiful she was. So I think this maybe more a me issue than a book issue.
Hissy Fit was everything and more. I absolutely adored this book. It was so addictive. I laughed so hard and smiled so wide. This book made me glow.
Raleigh is an absolute klutz. Everyone knows it. She is always hurting herself and sometimes she has casualties included in her clumsiness. One of those times, Ezra bears witness to the klutz queen in action. It is what gets her noticed by him. Although they are always in the vicinity of each other and have been for years, Raleigh was fairly invisible. Ezra is uber popular and Raleigh is the clumsy chick in the corner. They both are working in the same high school. Ezra is the coach and Raleigh is a teacher. Her mishap gets her in Ezra’s radar. He wants to know everything about her. He finds her enchanting and is disappointed in himself that it took him so long to notice her but now that he has, he is not letting her go.
Ezra was so attentive and protective of Raleigh. While everyone found her clumsiness irritating. He found it adorable. He would go out of his way to help her. Raleigh was also a likable heroine. She was so quirky and cute. She made me laugh. She made me cry. I loved her. She was a great source of entertainment.
Let's start off by saying that this is an author whose books that I buy time and time again because everything she writes is just awesome, and she always creates wonderful character's to love as well as fall in love with and this current read in this new series was just another great read with funny characters that we could not help but fall in love with yet again.
Raleigh is a school teacher with triggers and is also sweet, kind caring, beautiful inside and out hilarious and a major klutz but, had one of those infectious personalities because of her oddness but, she also thinks she is invisible when it comes to men. This woman was one walking disaster, but, and we totally loved her !
Ezra was one of those hotties that just melted your heart just by his action and deeds alone, especially when it came to loving his family as well as loving Raleigh. Ezra was a teacher as well as the school's coach who was well liked and respected and when he spoke he commanded attention and pretty much his words spoken were law. He definitely made us laugh time and time again. We loved him from the onset of the story as he was loving, caring, laid back yet serious, had a sense of humor and hot as he** infused with a bit of cockiness and went to great lengths when it came to his students. We fell head over heels ourselves with him ! (grins)
We loved the story from cover to cover with all the great character's that it had that you could not help but, fall in love with them. The story itself was so funny that we laughed throughout the entire story because Raleigh was just priceless! This couple was notorious for having sex in the oddest places ! (laughing out loud)
Raleigh and Ezra had some major chemistry going on and when they were together they were explosive together and so much in love it was super sweet, and they made the perfect couple. Can you say Hot ! Hot Hotter !
Raleigh had a major high school crush on Ezra and was totally in love with him from the moment they met but, Ezra back then was full of cockiness and himself and too busy chasing tale but, as a man he has now he has no problem seeing what is right in front of him now and that is Raleigh, and he is kicking himself for not seeing her all those years ago. From the moment they knocked heads years later, he somehow knew she would be destined to be his, and he would do anything to make it so. I really loved their odd courtship and loved that all the things that Raleigh disliked about herself were the things he loved about her the most, added to his attraction to her in the first place. Awe....
This was one heck of an engaging, funny read that had us laughing out loud the entire time and could not put it down. The author did an amazing job starting a new series off with a bang. We loved the plot that was infused with the perfect mix of all the things we loved but, most of all, we loved that nerdy girl got jock after-all even if it came years later and that it's a reminder that your dreams do come true sometimes. For me, I loved how fate put this couple in each other way years later because Ezra needed to grow and become the man he is now because the man back then wouldn't have been the sticking around kind and uncap-able of loving anybody but, himself but this new man is capable of giving his women everything she deserves, and his prime goal is to see to her happiness ! And the ending to this story was just priceless as well as perfect! Well done !
2.5 stars rounded off H and h work at same school ... aparently they went to school together and she mooned over him but he never noticed her ... they also worked together for 5 years but again he didn't notice her ... She never does anything to come to his attention and remains on ice; she is a virgin ... She comes across as needy and he is like the benevolent stud who decides to bestow his attention on her ... The set up is good but I felt their relationship was rather unequal ..
I have to say that this book made me laugh and scream at my kindle all at the same time. Then there would be parts where I was like that is so cute. This is one of those books that you either like it or you don't. You may not like it because at some point being a dork and nerd gets old but it is who Raleigh is and she is sweet a little to sweet and naive at times but she fits this story very well. Ezra on the other hand made me mad and I did not like him at first but then he grew on me and I started to like him.
Then when Ezra finally notices Raleigh these two have chemistry and they are hot as hell. The push and pull was great and the little quirks Raleigh had made the story more interesting. Raleigh was a klutz and she was very clumsy but Ezra looked past that and gave her a chance and when he did he realized what a gem he had in Raleigh.
This is a must read romance story that will have you laughing all the way to the end!
With every chapter that went by, the more the rating dropped. The heroine is way to klutzy and dangerous to herself! She literally does not even lock her front door and thinks a home security sticker can keep her safe from burglars. The writing was also all over the place. Some chapters ended off at Cliff hangers and didn't even explain other parts until a certain pivotal moment happened. For example, her kid fell off the bed. what kid??? I don't remember her having a kid LMAO. While there are issues with this one, overall, it was nice to see him notice her and them slowly falling for each other. And I also liked how they discussed the awful student teacher relationships that happened in the school.
I was recommended this book and I was honestly surprised there was a book by Lani Lynn Vale I hadn’t listened to yet. She is a favorite author of mine.
This book was so unlike any of her other ones and I LOVED every last second of it. I loved Raleigh and Ezra, they really go through a lot to get to where they end up and I loved that they both worked at their relationship.
Ezra is that boy you crushed on in high school the one that never knew you existed. And Raleigh is the shy awkward girl who was invisible until she wasn’t. I just loved their story.
Great narration, seriously these two narrators were perfect for these particular characters. I want more in this series!
A brand new Lani Lynn Vale series, woohooooo!!! Hissy Fit was much more than Ezra and Raleigh's captivating story, it's the introduction of SO MANY enticing characters and stories in this new LLV world of Gun Barrel, Texas!
It really was quite a introduction to this new series, the town beloved 'hero', ex-player turned coach falling for the town 'reject', the shy and clumsy girl that had always had harbored the biggest of crushes towards him, but he never saw, who was always invisible to him. Until one day she wasn't anymore...
In typical Lani Lynn Vale fashion, the story sucked me in from minute one, and I kept flipping pages and getting lost in this new and enticing new world that is that of The Southern Gentleman. The always fast paced storyline, the funny - more like hilarious, lol - moments, the emotional scenes and the sexy times all were spot on as usual, there was just a couple of elements, personal pet peeves of mine, that I really wish it weren't has focused upon as they were, mainly Raleigh's constant and non stop comments and thoughts of just how much she had crushing (more like obsessed it seemed, lol) over Ezra, speaking of him in a God like quality, and how she never even saw another man for her since they were kids. It was just too much, specially considering how invisible she truly was to him - which hurt most and seemed unbelievable considering the small town and her ever presence in his whole life, from school, to college to them working in the same place for the last five years - and how she had to witness him through all these years going through many women, pointing home just how unnoticeable she was UNTIL recently, when she literally crashes into him. Took her time, but she definitely left a forever lasting impression, lol!
Nonetheless, after Ezra FINALLY noticed her, he was all about her, completely smitten, and it's always amazing to see the tough ones fall. And like always, I devoured this book and absolutely loved the small town and school setting. Raleigh and Ezra's interactions with their students were in my opinion beautifully portrait, and I can't wait to see it again with Flint and Camry in Lord Have Mercy. I'll be counting down the days until next month!!! <3 <3 <3 <3
“I love you, Raleigh,” I told her. “I love you like a quarterback loves the feel of the laces between his fingers. Like a baseball player loves the feel of an old, worn glove that he’s put thousands of hours into. Like the goddamn sun and the moon. You’re it for me. You’ll be my wife one day. You’ll have my kids. You’ll grow old with me and drink sweet tea on our front porch with me. You’ll be mine, and we’ll die within a week of each other because neither one of us will be able to stand to be here without the other.”

This was my kind of book... The nerdy clumsy, dorky girl and the hot sexy popular jock/coach...
Raleigh has been inlove with Ezra since high school, but he never noticed her. He was the popular guy and she was the clumsy dork. Now years later, she is the loveable teacher and he is the infamous coach, and even now he doesn't notice her. Until the day he gives her a bloody nose, lol... Now it seems his eyes has finally been opened.
Ezra is the high school football/baseball coach and he lives with his married sister and her husband and kids and life is good. Until the day he meets Raleigh, but she has been there for years its just that he never noticed her. Now its like his life just became even more better. But things are not as honky dory as he and Raleigh thinks. Someone is out to get Raleigh and they don't even know it.
Loved this new book in this series. There was so much happiness, laughter, off the charts chemistry, lots of steamy moments, hectic drama and just an all around awesome story. I am really excited for the next one in this series. Whoop Whoop!
I mainly bought this one because Jacob Morgan was narrating. Thank you Mr. Morgan
Another small reason was was because I haven't read anything by LLV and I see her name constantly everywhere so thought - all right, give it a go.
I'm usually a fan of the adorkable meeting the Mr. Charming. But this one felt a touch off. Firstly, Raleigh's clumsiness borderlined on ridiculous. And Ezra's complete lack of knowing who he works with - for FIVE FUCKING YEARS - is also just eye roll worthy. Especially as everyone seems to know who everyone is in this town. I can somewhat forgive him for not really knowing Raleigh in High School, but to not realise who you work with? yeah, right.
So for FIVE YEARS - all the staff meetings, school events (sports and otherwise) he just didn't see her. At all? Like, not even a little? Sh-yeah, ok, totally believable.
Then, there were the two scenes that just upped my No Facter.
First scene - the 'deflowering' moment. (lame, I know...but also - don't care)
Saying out loud 'I don't want to die a virgin' (or something to that effect anyway) does NOT give you carte blanche to pick me up and have your way with me. I don't care if this chick has been obsessed with you for years - which you didn't even fucking know at the time so more creeper points on you there. While she didn't push him away, it just felt super presumptuous on Ezra's part to just assume that saying something like that is pretty much an invitation to have sex. If there was more build up between those moments I wouldn't have minded as much. Like an actual conversation and her saying 'Yes Ezra, take me' but I digress.
Second Scene - WTAF Moment - spoiler alert*
It just made me hate the characters at the end of the day to be honest.

I’m an avid reader of Lani Lynn Vale stories and a huge fan of her story lines and characters, so when I saw that she was writing a new series - one set in a small town community that focuses on the lives of teachers - I couldn’t wait to be introduced to a new set of colorful characters and the interesting things that happen to them and to those around them.
Raleigh Jolie Crusie is definitely a heroine who readers will identify with; she’s a quite quirky, a total hot mess, and a klutz like no one I’ve ever seen, but her flaws and self-image issues are what make her real, and while there were times that I just wanted to put Raleigh in a bubble to protect her from herself, she is who she is and she can’t be someone she’s not regardless of how much she might desire to be in order to catch the eye of her old high school crush.
Ezra McDuff was the hot high school athlete who everyone wanted to be and be with, and now as an adult, he’s the handsome teacher and coach who, despite his rough edges, everyone still wants a piece of him, and rightly so, because the further into the story I got, the easier it was to understand just who Ezra is and all of the good that he does for his students, his players, and his family, and the accident prone, amazing woman he will never not see again.
There’s one plot line in the story that I struggled with, but that’s only because I’m a high school teacher and the reality of the situation explored was absolutely on point; I appreciated the way that Vale crafted this particular conflict, and I couldn’t help but think about similar incidences that have happened in my own district.
Overall, though, this was just the feel good story I needed, and while there’s a bit of mystery, some drama, and a few creepy incidences, at the heart of the story is a good guy who finally sees the good girl who has always been in his life, and together, they find what they’ve been missing in each other, which also helps them grow as individuals and that’s the kind of character growth I love to see a hero and heroine experience.
I liked this one 😁. It was the first book I’ve read by this author and I’m more than willing to read more. Raleigh is our heroine and she is adorable. She’s a klutz, a queen of klutz who is a high school teacher in a small town. And for years and years, since she was young, she was in love with Ezra. They were friends of a sort when they were much younger but as his star rose and hers fell in the area of popularity when they were younger, he seems to have forgotten who she is even. They’ve both taught at the same school for a few years now and he’s no idea of who she is.
That is until he literally runs into her in a Target store and as he’s helping her up, he ‘sees’ her and thinks she’s beautiful. There’s something familiar about her but he can’t exactly put his finger on what. He’s surprised to learn they both teach at the same school and now he wants to be much more than coworkers.
As I said, I love Raleigh. Ezra is a bit of a tool though. Don’t get me wrong, I like him well enough but how he can be so clueless as to this sweet and caring woman is for so long is a bit frustrating. Still though, I’m giving this one a thumbs up.👍
I struggled so bad with this one, I had the hardest time to get to the end.
There was no plausible plot, no character development, the timeline was a mess (we jump from one moment to weeks after with no explanation whatsoever in between), and to be honest I didn't care for any of the characters.
Raleigh was supposed to be cute and funny but really her clumsiness was just painful to watch (and dangerous! how did she survive into adulthood?) Ezra was weak and lacked personnality. I hated how he didn't know her (no even her face nor her first name) even though they went to the same schools their whole life, had even a class together, they went to the same college, they have even been working in the same school for the past five years! Raleigh has been in love with Ezra since highschool but he never acknowledged her. She is still a virgin, saving herself for this clueless guy, has never even dated other guys (I mean, grow some self-respect already girl...) So he finally notices her, they go on a first date (pizza at his place) when a storm hits, they lock themselves in his bathroom where she blurts out she doesn't want to die a virgin and so BAM they do it right here. No conversation, no nothing... yeah...
Then all of a sudden they are living together, there are supposedly some drama that don't even get developped properly.
I will give this author a second chance, since I already purchased another book that appaealed to me, and hope that this one is not a reflection of her usual style.
Raleigh is a teacher and has been in love with the coach since they were both students at the same school they are teaching now. But he never noticed her until now.
I really don't know what to tell you about this book. As you can see in the summary above there really isn't much to this book. Raleigh is just too clumsy to be likeable, I feel like the author was trying too hard with that one. I mean really, who gets a bloody nose and a black eye because they where hit in the face with a box of condoms? She also runs into every door there is and even got run over by a car once. It just seems very unrealistic that one person has so much bad luck. The story basically revolves around her obsession with the coach of the school, where they are now both teaching at. Even when they were both students, she was in love with him. When he now finally notices her (after 5 years of working together!), it is mostly because she takes over his sex ed class. Which is a really big deal for her, because she is still a virgin. Which by the way changed pretty fast as soon as she told him about it, and not in a good way (at least in my opinion). Then there is this incident with one of the football players and another coach from school, which was meant to bring some action to this book. In reality it just seemed very forced and made everything more confusing. There also was this bad joke that I'm like 99% sure was a spelling mistake, because I can't find it anywhere on the internet and I don't get it. The only interesting person in this book was Morgan, a boy who is bound to sit in a wheelchair after having a bad accident. I would really like to read his story.
In summary, if you like clumsy wallflowers who can't get over their crush from highschool and finally get their happy end with said perfect man, you will love this book. Otherwise, I really can't recommend it.
