A mix of genius ideas with ...cliché. Yet, for some reasons, I can't stop reading that series.
That's like a "Dragon Ball" multiplied by "Mortal Combat" in the world (galaxy /multi-dimensions) of the Soul cultivators. Most of the times - too bloody, for my taste. As if exterminated planet here is just business as usual. Sometimes seasoned with brilliant thoughts & reflections. Between the lines.
From time to time I'm thinking - "Wow, that was interesting & amazing". - "And how he is going to do that? What's next?" - "That was creative."
And there are pages, where I'm thinking. - "Again? I saw that solution/pattern before too many times - that's boring." - "Too many "killing experiences" is killing me." (After a first thousand, and first destroyed planets, next one is not that interesting. I have no emotional attachment to any of the "5 min enemies" or creatures. It's just a time filler, distracting from the core plot.) - "Can he get to the point faster..."
Still. The #9 is one of the best, if not the best from the entire series, so far. Now - I'm aiming for the #10.
Next: Book 10 - Rampage Through the Inner Realm Book 11 - Mysteries of the Ancient Era Book 12 - Tenth Sun of the Immortal Astral Continent Book 13 - Light of the coming end
It's amazing how this series just keeps getting better and better. I've read thousands of pages now and I'm very invested in this story. The author has managed a wonderful balance between introducing new mysteries while clearing up old ones, introducing new characters while bringing back old ones, and introducing new conflicts while resolving old ones. Well done.
