For fans of Marley and Me and Katie Fforde's Paradise Fields, Lawyer for the Dog is Lee Robinson's charming, moving and funny debut novel.
Attorney Sally Baynard is baffled when Joe, her judge ex-husband, appoints her to represent the interests of a pet dog - Sherman, a miniature schnauzer - in a divorce case.
As Sally begins to investigate, she discovers the battle for Sherman masks a whole host of problems between Rusty and Maryann Hart. The more she discovers, the more Sally starts to realise the dog is the least of their worries.
But is Joe's request all that it appears? And as Sally delves deeper into the family's love of their canine best friend, might Sherman prove to have a nose for love?
A good quick read for when you want something intelligent but entertaining. Sally Baynard is a single, middle-aged attorney specializing in family law. Her life is quite complicated. Two years ago, after her mother was diagnosed with Alzheimers, she moved in with Sally. Sally has help; Delores is there during the day to take care of Mom, but nights and weekends Sally is on her own and Mom is getting worse. Now, her ex-husband, a judge, has pressured Sally to take on a messy divorce case ---- but not as the attorney to one of the plaintiffs, but to be the attorney for Sherman, the family Schnauzer. Both parties are fighting over the ownership of the dog and that fight has muddled the whole case. Sally is to investigate to find out which of the two parties would be best for Sherman. –It turns out that Sherman is the tip of the iceberg. ---A fast-paced fun read.

Character described seems so real and all the events written in the book is what we experienced in our daily life..
I loved this! Incredibly light, witty and fun to read. As an actual lawyer in real life this was both a good break from what I actually have to read everyday as well as a humorous and at some parts realistic viewpoint of all things that come with representing clients of all kinds.
