U.S. Marshal Shorty Thompson #65
Deputy Sheriff John Dunow
Golden Colorado was the gateway to the gold fields of the Rocky Mountains during the Pipe’s Peak gold rush. Thousands of men, but very few women converged on these mountains seeking the riches of a life time.
With so few women, men gathered at the local saloons to get their turn with one of the working girls. Gilbert Burns, half owner of the Golden Nugget Saloon and Gambling Hall was a well known shyster. With the girls all worked to a frazzle every night, he and his woman, big Ruth McDougal, got the idea of mail order brides.
They hired men and wagons sending them back east to the big cities rounding up lonely women and girls. The rag-ah- muffins off the streets were bought new clothes with a promise of a good life out west. Rich miners and lonely cowboys were waiting by the hundreds to marry lovely young healthy women.
After the first two wagons came into Golden loaded with very young girls, Sheriff Ted Mink wanted to assign Deputy Sheriff John Dunow to go undercover and investigate making sure all of this was on the up and up.
“John you know this just doesn’t look right. Some of those girls are just babies and not old enough to even develop breasts yet. You have free rein, but be mighty careful. There’s a lot of money involved in those brides.

MISSING WOMEN OF DENVER
A great insight of how women were treated..these days this would be identified as kidnapping and human trafficking. Making money any way they could, never mind how these women were to be treated..just as long they made their money.
U.S. Marshal Shorty Thompson, Lefty, John, Deputy of Golden, Colorado and Ted another Deputy, were all decided to end this selling of women. Some of the remarks such as..there isn't slavery that's only for the slaves, not the white women...then these women were sold to any miners or men who had five hundred dollars to purchase these women, who were kidnapped, using misinformation such as they were procuring "MAIL ORDER BRIDES," false advertising to entice lonely women. There weren't many careers for women, other than cooking, boarding house owners, or last but least becoming a "doxy," I like this description rather than "soiled doves, saloon gals and the world wide name w....." Shorty, Lefty and rest of the law, made quick news out of those
miscreants...yeah
Another GREAT U.S. Marshal Shorty Thompson adventure...love them all. Quick reads I love the way author captures their ways of living, thinking and above all their daily conversations, local jargon...sometimes I read a sentence fast and get lost, have to reread it again...still enjoyable..
So everyone ride easy and enjoy the countryside..

Definitely another masterpiece by Mr. Paul L. Thomson with Shorty Thompson and his exciting cohorts doing what they do so well. This story is very fulfilling and somewhat different from most of Shorty's outstanding performances. There is certainly enough gunfights to satisfy the whims of the most endearing group of western readers. Never a dull moment, but I still miss old Buffalo and his contributions to Shorty's successful endeavors.
This is definitely five stars maerial, as Mr. Thompson, once again games the wild West with Marshal Shorty Thompson leading the way. Too, the characters of John and Lefty certainly raises the bar of expectancy, as they, without a doubt, enhanced the storylines beyond belief. This was an exceptionally outstanding heartwarming episode of our very popular old American western folklore adventures. I was completely mesmerized from beginning to end. I only took time to eat, and then it was right to see what the next episode might bring to life. Not one dull moment throughout the entire story. Believe this one of the best Marshal Shorty's most outstanding stories this far.
The characters and storylines are unsurpassed in any western I have read this far, and that numbers into the hundreds. Basically, this is a family-friendly accounting of what probably, on many occasions, occurred in the early western adventures. I, as always, am definitely impressed with the author's ability to bring justice to those deserving to feel the wrath of true law enforcement officials for their exploits.
Mr. Thompson apparently does his research before striking the first key, as everything definitely falls into perspective from beginning to end. I have read this entire series and each story stands alone, with some characters, other than Shorty, do reappear time to time. I certainly recommend this book, and series, to all enjoying truly outstanding western adventures, with plenty of exciting episodes of realistic gunfights and ongoing adventurous gunplay, romance and even a little suspense every now and then. Do not miss this story, or any book in this series, or the loss is definitely yours!

U.S. MARSHAL SHORTY THOMPSON - Deputy Sheriff John Dunow: Tales of the Old West Book 65
There is something wrong going on somewhere around Golden Co. There are rumors about wagons of women being sold in the hills to the miners. That's just the sort of thing that that will get the law and a lot of other people awful mad in a hurry! I love the characters in this book, John, the deputy, Shorty, or course, but the old gun fighter, Lefty just stole my heart. This is definitely one of the best Shorty Thompson books that I've read. Please keep them coming, I look forward to every new one that comes out. BRAVO 👏👏BRAVO 👏BRAVO 👏

Best one yet.
I love Shorty Thomson novels. This is the one I enjoyed the most. I laughed all through the book. I love Lefty he's quite a character full of sarcasm and his own odd code of ethics. Deputy John and Shieriff Tad are also a characters you will complete enjoy reading this book.

A PLT. Western/Colorado/Denver/Golden/Kidnapping/Murder/Assault
PLT. has. penned a Shorty Thompson novel about a Mail Ordering group that actually kidnaps the women and sells them into bondage. A posse is formed by a U.S. Marshal that includes three lawman and one old time bandido! This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS

Excellent Read
This story was very unusual, excellent new twist. If this story was not true I would bet a dollar against a donut this plot or one like it was used during the settling of the west. Very entertaining and a wonderful read.

Unique coverage of a problem that probably did exist to an extent concerning mail order brides. I really did enjoy the book, think most readers would. Paul writes a very good western. If you haven't experienced him you should.
