Summoned by Demons
It’s been nearly two months since the Inter-Realm Security Agency shut down an illegal Demon-run fight ring, and despite all efforts, the Demons are still at large. Special Agent Laila Eyvindr and her partner are called to investigate a series of ritualized murders where Demonic energy lingers in the air. However, someone’s destroying the crime scenes, the evidence going up in smoke. A mysterious and potentially dangerous stranger arrives on Laila’s doorstep with information about her roommate’s Dragon parentage, but Laila has bigger things to worry about than Dragons. Strange creatures attacking the city and clashing personalities in the office threaten to distract the team and leave Laila wondering who she can trust. When one of their own is taken, will Laila save them before they become the next victim?

Just like Caught by Demons, this second installment in the Laila of Midgard series is full of action, adventure, crime drama, and of course magical beings.
Laila finds herself investigating ritual murders as more and more dangerous creatures begin appearing in Midgard. In the midst of this chaos, an assassination attempt on a king, and a budding romance with a dragon, Laila is also chasing the demon who escaped capture from the last book.
Kathryn Blanche seamlessly combines a gritty cop drama with the magic of a fantasy adventure to create a story that will keep readers reading well past bedtime.

“This threat isn’t going away. We will deal with it. I swear to you that I will do everything I can to help. But in the meantime, life continues , and you can embrace every moment of it or you waste it waiting.”

Wow! This book is an incredible journey and I’ve finished this with more questions than when I started, but I’m so ready to find them out in the next one. First of all let me thank the author for the copy she sent me for an honest review.
After reading the first one I wanted to know everything about Jerrik, but I guess I still need to wait. His replacement in Laila’s heart is Frej, an incredible good looking gentleman who happens to be also a powerful Dragon that came to Earth to train Erin. I loved to know the little girl better, I’m sure her powers will be incredible and her relationship with Ali and the way they care for each other is so sweet.
Laila is still a badass, even if traumatized by her imprisonment in book one. She is awesome in investigating and fighting and this helps her not thinking about her trauma. No wonder Frej is completely enchanted by her, she is like no other girl he has ever met. The way in which he can make her relax and feel the moment is adorable. She is very proud and at the beginning she doesn’t want to give the impression that she needs a man by her side, but wanting someone to love is not a weakness but something that makes life richer and happier.
The story is fast paced and I felt overwhelmed by Laila’s work as if I had to find the culprit of some murderers myself! I really hope we will see other worlds in the following books because the description of the one of the Dragons was amazing and I expect to return there with other balls and beautiful dresses. Laila’s humility has been able to conquer even the Queen and she definitely deserves more recognition. The way in which supernaturals (or women), as Laila, are treated on Earth reminds me that humans always fear what is different. They try to make her feel smaller, but she is stronger than that and sure of herself. Even her boss feels intimidated by her and the question now is: is he under a spell or is he really such a jackass? Only Infiltrared by Demons will give me the answer!

And I thought Blanche blew me away with the first book. I was wrong. The second book was just as good as the first, which is saying something because usually the second book never really lives up to the expectation of the first. And don’t get me wrong, this isn’t a ‘nice’ review because the author sent me the book. This is, as they always are, an honest review.
I am still in love with the world building. There is so much detail delivered subtly that it seems like a world that you already know and understand. Usually world building of this depth comes at the start of the book in a whole chapter with a side of ‘head fuck’ which means you have no idea what’s going on because there was so much information delivered in one go. Blanche delivers you this world over the course of the book with consistency and I live for this. Honestly if you are writing and plan to build your whole world in the first chapter. Don’t!!! Do it gradually and take a leaf out of Blanche’s book to see how this is delivered. *cough* anyway, the urban dystopian/fantasy is everything you need.
Summoned by Demons picks up right where the first one finished and you dive straight into the story. Laila is the bad ass lead, and I live for her. Not only is she ready to get her hands dirty but she is also considerate and loving of those around her and takes everyday as it comes, no matter how stubborn she is.
I love the traditional way that these ‘creatures’ are written out. Call me old school as hell but I hate it when there are so many different ways that a vampire acts but realistically the tradition is the best. Let’s face it, vampires don’t fucking sparkle!
Honestly, Blanche is a captivating writer and me being a little bit of a nit-picker that I am, I compared her writing in both books. Though Blanche is very consistent I found the story line and dialogue more direct in the second book, Summoned by Demons and I am loving it.
Blanche you are a fantastic writer and I am encouraging you to please keep writing, you have a gift woman!!!!

Finished copy provided to me by author Kathryn Blanche in exchange for my honest review.

Special Agent Laila Eyvindr has been through a drastic change since moving to Los Angeles to work for the Inter-Realm Security Agency; it has been two months since the events that could have possibly ended her life, and while Laila knows she did her best, she is still plagued by the catastrophic events.
Laila and her partner are called to investigate a series of ritualized murders and she soon comes to realize Demons are, once again, behind the gruesome incidents. But the evidence is being destroyed and Laila will have to figure out a way to find the person behind it all, even if it means putting her life in danger yet again.
Tension has been running high at work and while Laila can't figure out why things have gone askew, her friend's mysterious mentor will propose an irresistible escape from her duties as an agent, one that will prove to be exactly what she needed.

First of all, I would like to thank author Kathryn Blanche for giving me the opportunity to read and review the second book in her series. I feel so thankful to have found yet another series I am completely in love with! It was also brought to my attention the author hadn't seen the finished copies when I received Summoned by Demons and I feel honored to have been the first person to see how gorgeous this book is. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, Kathryn!
I mentioned this in my review of Caught by Demons, but this is such a well done Urban Fantasy/Dystopian. I knew I wanted Summoned by Demons to be the last book I read in 2018 because I knew it would not disappoint, and I was right. The story gripped me from the start and not only was I entertained throught the story, but it also made me feel so many different emotions and that is always something I appreciate when reading a book.
Summoned by Demons delved deeper into the thoughts of the main character, Laila. Her PTSD was a jarring but ultimately realistic addition and while it broke my heart seeing her deal with it, it was honestly refreshing knowing she eventually made progress towards a healthier (mentally and emotionally) future.
Laila is everything I could ever want in a heroine; she is smart, hard-working, stubborn, loving, caring and will do anything in her power to ensure the safety of others. The supporting cast is absolutely fantastic and I adored the new addition to the series; this is a character who stole my heart! I seriously cannot wait for the third installment in the series, I am sure it is going to be just as amazing as the first two books are.
If you are in need of a book with non-stop action, realistic characters and Norse mythology, I would highly recommend you pick this up! I cannot say enough good things about this series. I am giving this 5/5 stars.

Continuing Laila the Elf, Ali the Fae, and Darien the Vampire’s lives as Inter-Realm Security Agency in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, USA, Midgard (aka Earth). After discovering that some Demons were able escaped from prison Hell, they’re now faced with missing Supernatural Persons (SNPs) cases where the victims were later found dead after being sacrifices in a dark magic rituals 😱 Laila and friends believed that the perpetrators behind these are Marius, a Fae Demon who has been kidnapping Laila in the first book. BUT THE QUESTION IS: What were the rituals for? 😱 Not only that, thanks to Laila’s mother, there’s a new character named Frej, a male Dragon who will teaches Erin (Ali’s adoptive sister), so that Erin can learn how to be a full dragon (she’s been trapped in her teen body and not being able to use her magic 😭). There was also this mysterious Goddess who has been helping Laila since book 1, but a God/Goddess showing interest to a mortal usually won’t end well 😧 And one more thing, their supervisor Colin the Werewolf is having a girlfriend now... but why does he act super wierd since they were start dating? Who’s that woman anyway? 🤔
This book’s even more thrilling and complex than the first book! Many secrets were starting to be revealed, plus a new love interest (TBH I still have feelings toward Laila and Jerrik 😌 But we’ll see how it goes!) This book was definitely a page turner! Fyi, Laila was visiting a supernatural kingdom here (no spoilers 😉), a nice medieval fantasy setting intermezzo in a couple of chapters 🥰
Great characters development and world expansion, you need to read this series!

Blanche has done it again! If you liked Caught by Demons, then you'll love Summoned by Demons! The second part dives deeper into the characters we love and brings in some exciting new characters too! (*hint hint* sexy new love interests*) Laila's case in this book is interesting, I love the side storylines with Erin and her dragon heritage, and I can't wait to see what the next book has in store!

I really loved this series. Finished the entire series in a week, and wish there was more. I had the pleasure of meeting this local author at a party / book signing event, where I learned about the series for the first time, and I am so glad I decided to become a reader.
The Laila of Midgard Series takes place in a post-zombie apocalypse Los Angeles, where supernatural beings now live freely amongst humans - and somebody needs to keep the peace! A separate police force was created to deal with Supernatural-involved crimes, and Laila, our hero, is on the force and just the elf for the job!
I read the ebooks, and the later books (book 3 and the mini-book between books 3 and 4 especially) could use some more careful editing. This doesn't take away from the creativity of the story, and this series has incredible character development and world building. I would love to see it made into a TV series or interactive video game.
Highly recommend this series to fans of the fantasy genre. Especially recommended to Angelenos, who will recognize the settings.
