Witchy chimeras, homesick feudal lords, anarchists, miners, and one simple postal worker just trying to get by.
Nikta Kozan likes her life. She loves escaping the city to scramble through the wilds and deliver mail to the homesteads along Renga's rough and tumble frontier. Some people think the tech-forsaken planet is stuck in the dark ages and there's always gossip about the demonic powers of the settlers, but Nikta's happy where she is. Well, mostly. If only she could re-connect with her family, everything would be perfect. So when a criminal plot and one angry detective threaten to derail her plans for a cozy reunion, Nikta digs in her claws, getting dragged along on an adventure you won't want to miss.
If you liked Firefly, Dark Angel, Lost Girl, Dark Matter or the Dresden Files, you'll love Post Magic, a wild paranormal space fantasy with steampunk elements.

Good, but it left feeling frustrated.

While the series has potential, the world building was a little choppy, and the characters were a bit flat. Yet the storyline was interesting and is a curious mix of steampunk/frontier x sci-fi fantasy that has an odd charm about it.

However, what annoyed me the most about this book had nothing to do with the story, but with the way the book was published - and that is the story only makes 76% of the book, and the final quarter includes the first 6 chapters of the second book. Very frustrating when I thought I still had a good chunk of the story left only to be rudely surprised when it finished way too soon, and with an obvious hook to continue on to book 2.

It's a bit of a mystery; it's a bit of a sci-fi; maybe even it's a bit of a fantasy and a bit of a romance. Whatever it is, it's fun reading. Post Magic is the story of a post runner (mail-delivery person) on a non-tech planet sometime after humanity has traveled to the stars. Because of the makeup of the planet and the genetic modifications done to their antecedents to allow them to survive and thrive, some of the descendants of the early settlers demonstrate abilities that could be mistaken for (or is it really) magic. Our hero, a lovely young lass with many characteristics of a panther (some of whose genes she carries), gets herself involved in the investigation of the dealing of a drug believed to be of magic origin. The story has danger, mystery, familial relationships, bigotry, "magic", friendship, rivalries, and even a touch of love -- in other words, something for everyone. I recommend this very enjoyable tale.

I received an advance review copy of Post Magic and was floored. The author took everything I love about scifi and fantasy (magic, adventure, chimeras, strange new realities) and created an intricate adventure with lots of excitement. The book is set far in the future on a strange planet that makes it really hard for tech to function. The original settlers were genetically modified with panther DNA to ease survival, and they've developed magic as a consequence of their environment. Our hero, Nikta Kozan, just wants to deliver mail and mend some family rifts, but instead she gets drawn into a criminal conspiracy with no easy way out. What happens next is two parts action and laughs, with a dash of drama and a pinch of romance. Read it, you won't regret it. Highly recommend!!

I'm a big browncoat fan and love stories with witchcraft, so I was pretty thrilled to get an ARC of this book. Post Magic did not disappoint! I loved the new world Logan created - where do I sign up for life on Renga?? Thank goodness the author gifts us with a preview of book two, too. Even though each book seems designed as a standalone, the story is like candy and I am all in -- looking forward to more books in the series!

Nikta Kozan among other things is a courier and a magnet for trouble - as events seemingly happens by chance.

The first chapter introduces Nikta, a mostly human with some panther DNA, a bit of magic and a lot of world building - overwhelming for a first chapter.

Electromagnetic properties on off-grid planet Renga makes modern technology a challenge hence the importance of a postal service and Nikta's job as a special courier for the Peoples Galactic Postal Service. (A futuristic Pony Express without the ponies.)

Take almost every ill of modern society today and you'll find it in this fictional futuristic planet as apparently humans have not learned from their mistakes.

Due to a domino effect of circumstances Nikta finds herself accused of delivering a bomb to a Police Station and is strong-armed into assisting a Detective in an investigation.

What makes this story standout from the usual sci-fi trope is that there is a great underlining Japanese cultural influence in the names, customs, food and even Haiku poetry.

While a somewhat unique character Nikta Kozan is a bit difficult for the reader to connect to. The reader is there for the ride, but fails to feel the wind in their face or the bumps along the journey.

A diverse cast of characters but none memorable.

The synopsis for this story said it was a mix of genre and it was not wrong. I thought it took the fun elements of steam punk, changeling characteristics, mystery, magic and police stories and mixed in a strong streak of a space opera scifi story based on a planet to get this story. It was a blast to read and spot them all as they just made a fun book. I loved Nikta as she goes about her business and ends up in the middle of a wild and scary adventure. I loved the writing as it made me feel like I was right there. I loved the feel of family and how all the characters Nikta meets grow as the book progresses. The flow of the story was addicting and kept me reading to the end to find out who the bad guys were and how Nikta ends up working undercover for everyone is hilarious. Just a lot of fun. I really liked it and could not wait to read book 2.
