Power Sex and Shame: Overcoming Sexual Exploitation

Rate this book
Addresses a major American epidemic by Tim Stoen Power, Sex and Shame is a deep, comprehensive, and solution-oriented book on one of our country's major sexual exploitation by people in roles of power. It insightfully analyzes predators and patterns of abuse. It provides realistic hope for shame-filled victims. It outlines a realistic systemic program for "fighting the culture of sexual exploitation." Peter Mosgofian, its author, has counseled the victims of sexual exploitation for four decades. He knows whereof he speaks from both a theoretical and practical perspective. As a prosecuting attorney, I have occasion to examine and cross-examine "experts" on the witness stand. Peter's special experience and special training, and his ability to give solid evidence-based reasons for his opinions, makes him a top-of-the-line, genuine expert. Experts don't come any better than he. In addition, I know Peter Mosgofian personally. He is a man of deep compassion, and he is authentic. What he writes is what he is. College professors, CEOs, politicians, and therapists in particular would do American society a great service to promote this book. Every citizen would do well to read this book with its intriguing palette of chapters, including "Love, Sex, and The Dangerous Triangle." *** “Overcoming sexual exploitation is a daunting commitment made more comprehensible and achievable thanks to Peter Mosgofian’s important work. Power, Sex and Shame deserves to be read and discussed widely. Lives depend on it.”- Peter Dunne, Emmy and Peabody Award-winning producer and writer. *** Sexual exploitation is (almost) everywhere. In this book, survivors and their advocates (friends and family) will learn to identify how exploitation occurs and recognize the various ways people in power can manipulate others to compromise their sexuality. Readers will also explore the powerful impacts of shame and vulnerability and how to overcome those significant forces. The author provides specific steps toward healing from the abuse of power and introduces practical, every day actions to take on the misuse of power at a systemic level in all areas of our lives. “Serving in my counseling practice for forty years has impacted me deeply as I have worked with women and men who have been or were currently being exploited by men (or women) misusing their power. This book provides a balanced, compassionate approach to help survivors and their advocates heal. - Peter Mosgofian The facts show that untold (and it isn’t really a fact if the numbers are “untold”) millions of women (and a large number of men) have been victims of some type of sexual exploitation, often beginning very early in life. Sexual exploitation by men and women in positions of power at every level of our society is big news because it is a big, pervasive problem—in the numbers of victims, the severity of the harm, and the adverse moral and ethical impact on every level of society.

The author presents excellent facts. What I enjoyed most was that it generates questions and ideas about yourself and your thoughts about l the the Me Too movement. When your reading this book you realize that you do not have to agree with everything that is written but that you are able to think and generate conversation with others to see if and what all of us can do to possibly to prevent our children and grandchildren from being exposed to this kind of environment and also educate our children about the importance of self respect. What is also very important is that no money or offer for a good job is worth yourself respect.
