Jamise L. Dames is a true Renaissance woman. Author, columnist, public speaker, published songwriter, screenwriter, mentor, and now publisher at New Renaissance Publishing Company, she dons many hats, and seems to do it with relative ease. The easiness, Jamise attributes to passion and independence. “When you love what you do, it isn’t work; it’s a love affair of the heart and mind. When you own yourself, you’re free—and that I am. Free. I’m my own boss. I own 100% of me,” she states.

Having seen her first published work appear in a local newspaper when she was just six-years-old, Jamise has been writing ever since. Dubbed a “Phenomenon”, she’s also been inducted into the Self-Publisher Hall of Fame, and was featured in Self Publishing for Dummies before taking her current position as publisher at New Renaissance.

Stemming from a multi-cultural background, and having lived in many places, including California, Illinois, New York, Connecticut, and Atlanta, her diversity shows in her writing style. Whether Contemporary, Erotic, or Urban fiction, she crafts her characters and stories with flare, promising readers an unadulterated view. “Holding back is holding out, and I want my audience to experience what I write, not just read it,” Jamise states.

A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Jamise is pursuing a Juris Doctorate. When in the States, she divides her time between the East Coast and the South.

The title of this novel seems insightful but in all actuality it does not give us a glimpse of half the drama readers are in for when they pick up this read. We meet a very small family full of big secrets. Derrick, Kennedy, and Simone Jacobs are siblings that only have each other and had to fend for themselves after their parents passed prematurely. All three are very successful in their careers but not so much in their love lives, they have all struck out. They also aren't as tight as most siblings, when it comes to their personal lives they rarely discuss anything with each other below the surface. This tale of three main couples takes off slowly but once it picks up it grows like a speeding snowball racing downhill. The author takes her time and allows us to get to know the characters well and doesn't rush the climax one bit. It may be a while before the juicy parts emerge but it is without a doubt worth the wait. All three siblings fall in love and believe they finally found "The One", this is where everything takes a turn for the worse. This novel is an explosion of straight drama and is packed with innumerable shocking twists, startling turns, and awful heartbreaking tragedies. Derrick, Kennedy, and Simone will lie and betray each other all while unbeknownst to them, their new partners are being deceitful as well. Unquestionably, anyone who reads this will not only root for these characters, but want the best for them, and even get frustrated when they repeatedly make the wrong choices. The question of paternity will take forever to surface but when it does everyone will be at the edge of their seats trying to read faster and faster and won't put this book down until the truth is uncovered. Along the way we are introduced and get to know a handful of characters besides the main three and that makes this novel that much more enjoyable. I highly recommend this to anyone in search of something interesting to read.

This book was well written and I truly enjoyed it. I loved the way the characters stuck together through thick and thin. This book is truly a page turner and I enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

This book took my a little time because I listened to it, the book had me on an emotional rollercoaster, I cried, laughed and became angry. Finding true love can be a real task when people are deceitful and have ulterior motives. I was grateful the ending was not predictable and enjoyed how the author closed up each scenario.

I listened to this book on Audible. The narrator did a good job as usual. However, on the production side, I would have liked for them to edit out the swallowing, lip smacks and extended pauses.

Of an 8 1/2 hour listen only 1 hour of it had something of value or interest. Maybe, because the title hinted at so much more. The few moments of interest were treated as mere blips on the interest radar. They were glossed over so quickly that if you weren't paying attention you missed it. 5 hours in and finally something to keep my attention-a heartbreaking event and then 6 1/2 hours a death, an assault, a betrayal and a birth. The dialogue between these young female characters felt like an episode of the Golden Girls more times than not and not in a funny comedic way. The characters were difficult to connect to in this tale.

This is definitely a bedtime story. It lulls you to sleep with its painfully slow pace and lack of movement. Maybe I'm not the author's target audience, but I couldn't help feeling this watered down drama was meant for those who are in their golden years.
