Rachel can’t believe her luck. She’s kept in touch with her father. He’s served his time and is about to be released. She wants to believe her letters have helped him change. He says they have. She’ll know soon enough. It’s a reunion she’s been looking forward to for years.
Rachel has done well for herself. She’s risen from the streets to become valedictorian of her senior class. She’s been recruited by Northwestern, one of the nation’s finest universities, where she’s been given a full scholarship. She’ll be majoring in Political Science while working for Senator Weise, a democratic socialist out to change the world.
But Rachel is conflicted. As part of a high school assignment, she’s put together economic models for both socialism and capitalism and isn’t sure socialism can work. That won’t stop her from doing her best to get Senator Weise elected. She doesn’t have a choice. The Senator’s opponent is Stan Powers, a man who deserves to be in jail, not in office. He’s the man who got away with killing her mother.

On Solid Ground touches on so many of the issues we face today as a country!
