New Hampton lies in ruins.

This is the second book in the Mutant Rain series and is accompanied by several novellas that go along with the series and show you more details into some of the character in the main series. The setting in the story is New Hampton which is now completely in ruins. There are few human survivors and what awaits out in the Rain cannot be exactly classified as human anymore. Dr Zhirkov has seen to that!
We learn more about his plans for the future of humanity and the results of the many experiments he has undertaken over the years. Out in the ruins are the masses, infected by the Rain of the title and now mindless zombie like characters whose only desire is to devour anything or anyone in its path. Add to that some of the doctors more recent experiments and it is no longer a safe place to live in, never mind try to survive in. Supplies are getting low and danger is all around.
Some of the mutants who escaped from the doctor are with a group of human survivors and go out looking for any other survivors, but have to avoid the doctor and his mutants, as well as the infamous Watchroom gangs. They are led by one of the human scientists, who hands over leadership to Reinhardt, as his health and strength decreases, in the hope the rest will survive. The powers of these mutants are more powerful out in the rain and have changed their skin colour completely.
You have to read the books and especially the novellas, to get a better grasp of how dire the situation is that Doctor Zhirkov has placed mankind in with his experiments. And this is not even the first place he has done his evil deeds. They are all on offer at the moment, so are a good deal. There is a sick satisfaction that you get as you read one of the authors books and are left just wanting to see how far out of left field the story can be taken. Believe me – it’s out of the ballpark!!!
I’ve loved each of the books in the series and have been lucky to read all of the novellas that accompany the series. I can’t wait to see what will come next. I received an ARC copy of this book from the author but have also bought it as well – it is a definite 5* read.

Carrying on straight after the fall of New Hampton, The Fall picks up the pieces and sucks you into the madness...
I was really happy with the character development for Dr Zhirkov and his band of motley assassins. The backstory adds so much more to an already superbly twisted dystopian nightmare, full of mutants, zombie like creatures and loveless human beings with nothing to lose.
The contrasts between the 'good guys' and the 'bad guys' is at times obviously black and white, but at others a delicious shade of gray, asking the question - would you align yourself with these people in this situation?
The ever mutating genes lead to some truly visceral scenes, offset by some hints of romantic intrigue and surprising almost moral decisions from people that you would not expect, keeping the story incredibly fresh and open to change at the drop of a hat.
My one criticism about this book was that certain chapters are redone from a different characters perspective, but not in such a way as to offer a completely different outlook to what has taken place. Instead, we get a Deja Vu feeling which borders on annoying as a large amount of text is re written again, almost to the extent that it feels like padding to the story. This for me, felt completely unnecessary and spoilt the flow of the story. This is a real shame as the content is incredibly varied excepting this, and has me now chomping at the bit for the next book.
If you like a fast paced story with mutants, abnormal creatures and violence, you need to read this series. Definitely read The Mutant Rain / Mutant Rain Origins books first, as you will get so much more out of it.

The Fall moves between St.Petersburg of 1897 and late twentieth century New Hampton, cleverly switching point of view of the various protagonist including Alexander Zharkov himself, Connor, Isaac
and Benjamin Farrow. 'Drama, passion, lust. A power struggle,' this story is truly bizarre, as are it's predecessor, The Rain, and the small handful of short stories which also accompany it, each detailing a single cbaracter. A totally unmissable series.

I was drawn right back in to this madness and loved every minute of it! You can read this book alone, but you'll understand and enjoy reading so much more if you read The Rain first. There's also several short stories in The Mutant Rain series that tell of the origins of some of the characters. These all fit together in a great storyline of humans trying to stay alive while hiding from mutants, zombies, gangs and so much more. I loved reading it from different characters points of view. The author has done a lot of unique world building in this series and I've enjoyed every bit of it!

The Fall, the second book in The Mutant Rain series is as exciting as the first. People think the Zombie Apocalypse will happen in the future but maybe not. In The Fall you will encounter mutants and zombies throughout history. Thrilling and chilling and lots of fun!

This is the 2nd book in the series, I really enjoyed the 1st! Unfortunately this didn't grab me like the 1st book but still a good story with some mad ideas! A different sort of end of the world! Looking forward to the next installment.

A good, interesting story. There are super-human mutants, vampires, zombies, carnivorous butterflies, just to name a few, and, of course, "The Rain."

Having found safety with a meager number of other survivors from New Hampton in an underground hideaway dubbed The Bunker, the mutants Connor, Reinhardt, Isaac, and Benjamin decide that their small number will be no match for the hordes of zombies or Dr. Zhirkov’s people. One after the other leaves to find more survivors and more mutants to supplement the group.
When they fail to return after 2 days, Aurora and Evaline head to New Hampton to find them leaving behind the weakest of the survivors and, unknown to them, one of Dr. Zhirkov’s secret moles. In the city, they meet up with a small group of survivors led by Detective Benjamin Farrow, Aurora’s former partner on the police force.
Integral to The Fall is the revelation of Dr. Zhirkov’s back story and that of his men, Vitaliy, Dmitri, and Victor. Readers get a much fuller picture of what Dr. Zhirkov is about and a better understanding of the extent of the mutation that is occurring throughout the world.The Fall continues the highly imaginative and entertaining tale by L.A. Frederick which began in The Rain. Part horror, mystery, AND romance, it is a dystopian story that’s got everything. However, I recommend readers begin with The Rain (The Mutant Rain #1) as well as the Mutant Rain Origins short stories before tackling The Fall.
