Alone and on the run, Fran must protect her younger sister at all cost — but she never expected the price would be marriage to a stranger. Her new husband may be a respected rancher in the community, but Fran can't trust him with her secrets.
Trail boss Edgar White never planned for a marriage of convenience. He never planned to marry at all. His past taught him that women can't be trusted, and the secrets she's keeping prove his new wife is no exception.
But as a cattle drive forces them into close proximity, Edgar soon discovers the depths of Fran's devotion to her sister — and that it isn't so easy to keep his heart guarded.
Lacy Williams wishes her writing career was more like what you see on Hallmark movies: dreamy brainstorming from a French chateau or a few minutes at the computer in a million-dollar New York City penthouse. DNF at page 196 out of 278. So over halfway done and I feel I have read enough to rate and review this book.
Typical Western historical romance, convenient marriage trope. Also, younger sister of wife and wife in danger trope. And my favorite, not telling the full story to those who could help you trope. Like seriously? Just tell the TRUTH ASAP and it’ll save the readers from eye roll strain. Sheesh!
Also, supposed to be a Love Inspired, but God barely has a mention, let alone a cameo! He’s prayed to out of desperation a few times and a character thinks that the Bible had a verse that said something like her thought. But no chapter, no verse. No book even!
So fail on weaving a romance plot line with God throughout it.
The romance plot itself was pretty vanilla and the lack of proper communication, while necessary to move the plot along, was annoying in the extreme. I understand, the MCs are young, but that doesn’t have to mean dumb or immature.
Maybe I’m too old and bitter for these types of stories now. I used to like to read romances, but maybe I just need to move on and let others enjoy them without my two cents and 2 starred reviews.
If you like the typical Western romance, with just a few kisses here and there but WARNING and SPOILER attempted rape is mentioned and the sisters are running from a rich, crazy man who wants the 15 year old (eeeeeewwww), then you might enjoy this one. I, did not.

I ended up really enjoying this one. I didn't realize there were other books in the series, but I thought this one stood on its own really well. I enjoyed it so much I want to go back and read the other books in the series.
Fran and Emma are on the run. The hopped on an orphan train and when the train derails in Bear Creek they are found out. That's where her life collides with Edgar White, changing both of their lives forever.
I liked Fran quite a bit. She was very mature for her nineteen years. She is fiercely loyal and protective of her younger sister Emma. She adapts well to her circumstances and stands her ground. I like that she wasn't a complainer and also that she sees the good in Edgar.
I liked Edgar quite a bit, although I didn't really care for his name. It just didn't match him at all, IMO. Anyway, even though he has a loving family, he had a rough childhood and has a difficult time trusting women. Since he meets Fran under unusual circumstances it takes him awhile to warm up to her, despite their mutual attraction. He is loyal to his family (although he does like to micro-manage his younger bothers a little). Even though he's gruff, he has a kind heart and I just liked him.
The romance was nice, moved along believably and they had good chemistry. There is a little suspense, but it didn't overwhelm the story. I liked how everything played out and thought it was enjoyable and well written. It's one I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys western/frontier stories.
Content Romance: Squeaky clean. Violence: Mild Religious: Mild. The religious aspects were pretty subtle and felt realistic to the characters. Not overwhelming or preachy at all.
Fran the girl on the run and Edgar the man with a stick up his butt. Sounds sexy right? But he is redeemable and that's the whole point. Fran and her sister Emma have had more than their fair share of bad luck and are now on the run from a wealthy jerk who wants Emma. The one lie she told to help them escape comes back to haunt her and brands her as a liar in Edgar's eyes. Edgar had changed from a carefree boy to an overly serious man who avoids women like the plague. But stuff happens and they end up married. But just til they can get an annulment right? All this while driving cattle to a buyer on a tight deadline and being chased by the bad guy's minions. Edgar was hard to like at first because he was so judgmental an unsympathetic. But at the same time he shows himself to be trustworthy and smart and a man of his word... well mostly. Fran is a city girl but determined to pull her weight on the drive while her emotionally damaged sister hides in the wagon. Lots going on in this one and I read it straight through til 2 in the morning. Kinda wish Edgar had caved a bit sooner, but it wasn't quite the end of the story and there's a sweet little epilogue. I didn't realize this was part of a series, so I look forward to reading more. Also available in audio!! . It's a clean series, and faith friendly, with just kissing, but plenty of romance and romantic tension. The 'God talk' is minimal and appropriate. Some sweet little oasis in the story where the MCs have moments of tenderness and understanding keep the tension from being too much.
Have the characters ever heard about a thing called talking? I am still confused about the plot point of Fran and the vase. If the story was fabricated, why did she know about it?
I never would have imagined I'd give a Love Inspired book 5 stars, but here we are.
The Good: I was pleasantly surprised. The characters were all varied and likable, despite their flaws. I really liked Edgar; his name is wonderful. I connected with Fran a lot throughout the story. She certainly has more struggles than I but there were certain uncertainties she dealt with that I deal with sometimes as well.
There was a good bit of action and danger, which also was a surprise. I was expecting a syrupy-sweet love story, but that's not what I got. It was real and emotional.
The Bad: I'm not a big fan of The Misunderstanding trope in Christian fiction. It's overused and incredibly frustrating. There's a difference between a misunderstanding and someone being too blind and/or arrogant to accept the truth. My only qualm with this book is the fact that Edgar flew off the handle because Fran held something back from her past. I'm not sure why every hero/heroine in this genre needs to know absolutely everything about their love interest upfront. That's just not realistic.
This book was a whole lot of fun. I'm looking forward to finding another Love Inspired just as good.
The Wyoming Legacy series is such a great set of stories! I really enjoyed The Wrangler’s Inconvenient Wife. I felt an immediate connection with both of the main characters. I loved the situation that Fran and Edgar found themselves in, married to each other, but with distrust hanging in the air between them.
I really liked Edgar, even with the distrust he had for Fran. He had a good heart, just a wounded one, and I loved watching his transformation throughout the story. Fran was a great character, too. She had such a protective and caring nature. I was impressed with her behavior throughout the story, as well as her work ethic.
I listened to this book as an audio book from Audible and it was such a good reading. The narrator did a great job in the telling of the story. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up staying up very late on one night listening because I wanted to know what happened next!
I definitely recommend this book, whether in page form or audio book.
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is the third in the Wyoming Legacy series and I can't believe I missed the first two! What an awesome read! There's danger lurking from all sides in this wild west tale. Talk about adventure! From wild critters to vermin of the human kind and everything in between. Poor Fran and Emma are plopped in the middle of it all with no one to watch out for them except a passel of cowboys with hearts of gold. (What a tough row for a heroine to hoe!)The biggest and brawniest (and stubbornest) is Edgar, the hapless bronco who snags inconvenient wife, Fran. And the fun really starts when she promptly stampedes her way into his heart though he's loathe to admit it. A delicious romance with plenty of action.
My thanks to the publisher and Net Galley for my review copy of this book.
A sweet story of falling in love on a cattle drive with some danger here and there. The only complaint I have about this book isn't with the writer. "Don't the people who make these covers every read the descriptions of the characters?" She petite not reaching his chin and he's burly. Nice looking people on the cover but not what I think of as "petite" or "burly".
It's important to understand what this book is, a simple Love Inspired hallmark type western romance. It will never challenge for a Christy award but it makes for an enjoyable few hours of relatively low stress reading. I liked the main characters but thought the "stalker" subplot and mystery brother subplot seemed forced and unbelievable even in the Love Inspired world. Then there was the disappearing dog, who was present through half of the story and the vanished, presumably killed in a wagon accident but his loss is never acknowledged which I found odd, why include him at all? Despite this, marriage of convenience is one of my favorite plots so I found this a rather enjoyable, quick beach read. There were subtle Christian references but not a strong religious subplot. This is a clean read and part of a series. I have read a few others in the series and may continue to do so from time to time but I'm not gripped enough by the characters to commit to the entire series, especially back to back.

The wrangler's inconvenient wife de Lacy Williams Serie Wind River Legacy libro 4
Argumento:
I was looking for a quick fun read and this ticked those boxes.
Fran and Edgar don't get off on the best footing, when he catches her in a lie on their first meeting as Fran tried to get her sister away from danger. They're sort of forced into a marriage of convenience because it's either that or send Fran to jail and despite his mistrust, Edgar is still too honourable to sit by and allow that to happen.
What follows is a straightforward but pretty sweet story about two people learning to trust and rely on one another. The romance was believable and easy to root for and I liked both Edgar and Fran as characters. There were some other moving parts with Edgar and his brothers as this is part of a series, but since I read this as a standalone that didn't really have too much significance for me.
A train carrying orphans is derailed. Fran Morris lied about her age and was found out. The judge couldn't let her just leave with her younger sister. Edgar White married her instead of letting her go to saloon or his younger brother marry her.
Edgar was a orphan on a train years ago too. His father took him in plus others. Edgar feels he owes his father everything, while he is gone Edgar was in charge getting the cattle to the buyer. With the train derailed he and his brothers decide to trail drive them. Fran and Emma sneak into the wagon.
Fran is only 19 but passes as younger. She is very protective of her sister. She has a lot of faith that her prayers are answered. Her parents have died and her brother has disappeared. She pretended to be younger so they could go on the orphan train.
Emma is fifteen. She has become fragile. A older richer man has become obsessed with her and tried some things with her. His men have even come out west looking for her. She is scared and shy.
You have to admire Fran, she is smart, full of faith and a hard worker. Yes she passed herself off younger that was the only way she had to get her sister away. She even agreed to marry Edgar.
This is a good story. I have only read now two books in this series but would read the rest of it some time. It does mention faith, prayers and scriptures. It fits well into the story. It is full of drama, action and good dialogue.
I was given this ebook to read for purpose of writing an honest review of The Wrangler's Inconvenient Wife. received the book through Net Galley and Harlequin.
The Idea: I really liked this book. It's about Edgar and Fran, who fall into a "marriage of inconvenience." Edgar marries her to ensure that she and her younger sister are safe. However, he never intended to get married. He and Fran work on the trail together, and start to grow close. The Characters: Fran is a young woman who will do anything and everything to get her little sister, Emma, to safety. She was admirable in her selflessness to protect her sister. Edgar has not trusted women after he was abandoned by his mother at a young age. He planned to never marry, but he finds himself with a wife in this book. I liked the characters. The Plot: This was a short and sweet book; perfect for the summer! I really enjoyed it. The plot was somewhat predictable, but I certainly enjoyed it nonetheless. The Setting: I really liked the setting of rural Wyoming! It was perfect for the story and I tend to like western stories. Overall: A lovely book!
A reluctant but gallant hero and a runaway determined to protect her sister collide in a touching story set in the hills of Wyoming. Edgar has one goal--get his father's cattle to their buyer by the appointed date. He planned for just about everything except an unexpected marriage. Fran will do anything to protect her sister from the madman chasing them. Edgar and Fran battle against henchmen, Mother Nature, time, and one another in a tale that will tug at your heart and leave you wanting more. Lacy Williams has penned another great western romance that will stay in your heart and mind for a long while.
So very good! Loved reading The Wrangler's Inconvenient Wife and getting to know Edgar and spunky Fran. God worked in amazing ways in their lives and how when you listen to Him things work out so much better!
Entertaining city girl meets cowboy story. I love this story and the narration is excellent! I'm looking forward to the rest of the Wyoming Legacy series!
I won this audible copy in a giveaway. The opinions expressed are my own.
1.5 After reading Pemberley Ranch and having so much fun with it and its sweet characters, wanted to read another romantic western but this one was a bit too simple for me. It was just ok.
Fran headed West with her sister Emma. Emma was only 15 and a man had become obsessed with Emma and wanted her. His intent ions were not honorable. Fran was too old for the orphan train, although they both were orphans, but her goal was to hide her sisterhood West and protect her. Fran had realized they were being folded and when The train jumped the damaged tracts , she met a huge cowboy when she began to think of as a man who could protect them. Edgar White had also ride the orphan train years before so he knew what it was like to feel abandoned. When the orphanage representative traveling with them recognized Fran as not being one of her girls , a court appearance called attention to Fran and her sister. The obsessed man was there for Emma but Fran insisted she was in charge of her of her sister. The judge needed for Fran to be married to claim her sister and Edgar White stepped forward because of the injustice taking place with the obsessed man. I like the books in this series but they are often drawn out with lots of things they should have done and why they did not tell the H/h when they had the chance.
Edgar was the last orphan on the Orphan Train and no one there to adopt him. Jonas White heard of this lone boy and understood his fear and plight. He immediately went to town and adopted him. Edgar had a strong distrust of women because of the mother that gave him away and the Director at the Orphanage that didn't protect him. He had his adopted family and his place in it and needed nothing else. Years later Fran was on another Orphan Train protecting her 15 yr. old sister Emma from an evil man trying to kidnap her. He was rich and he alleged that Fran had stolen from him to get her arrested to open the way to Emma. Circumstances took place that necessitated Fran marry or lose Emma to be adopted and Edgar offered he would only to save his brother who had offered. This put the White's as the target for the man after Emma while they had a trail drive taking cattle to his Pa's buyer. The relationship between Edgar and Fran was strained for a man that never wanted to marry and a young woman very attracted to him. Their adventure is one more of the adopted White brothers unexpected romances that warm the heart.
The Wrangler’s Inconvenient Wife is the fourth installment of the Wyoming Legacy series. This series chronicles the lives of Jonas White’s adopted children—seven sons and one daughter: Oscar, Maxwell, Edgar, Ricky, Davy, Matt, Seb, and Brianna. This is Edgar’s story, and I loved it! Edgar is the oldest still at home and is charged with the responsibility of taking care of his father’s ranch while he is away on a trip. A train wreck, a marriage of convenience, a cattle drive and unsavory pursuers combine to make a dramatic, entertaining read. The fast-moving, action-packed plot, with a mix of humorous and serious moments, kept me turning pages. Engaging, relatable characters jumped off the page and into my heart. The subtle faith element is inspiring. This book works well as a stand-alone even though characters from previous books are featured and referenced. This is the only book I have read so far in the series but will definitely be reading others. If you are looking for an exciting, heart-warming read; try this one!
After the last book and my very real dislike of Hattie and her treatment of Maxwell, I was so glad we got back on track with Fran and Edgar’s book. This was a heroine I could fully get behind and root for. From the first moment Edgar and Fran met it was a sparks and fun.
Fran’s devotion to her sister mirrored perfectly with Edgar’s devotion to his family. She brought out his protective and playful side and he gave her a chance to lean on someone else. The pranks they played on each other brought such a smile to my face!
The villain and the conflict of the story was also a return to form. It felt like there was weight to Fran and Emma’s fear and even though they were scared, Fran never felt selfish in them. She was willing to do what needed to be done. And the resolution felt right as well.
This is the first book that made me tear up and the happily ever after was so deserved. This might actually be my favorite of the series so far… and I’ve enjoyed almost all of them (with the exception of Maxwell’s book). Definitely 10/10 would recommend
4 stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical western romance the Wrangler's Inconvenient Wife (Wild Wyoming Hearts Book 8){Wind River Hearts book 8} by Lacy Williams and this review was given freely. Action, emotion and drama packed with a few surprises, a bit of violence and a happy ending. Left in charge of the ranch and cattle drive while his parents and older brothers are away, perpetually single twenty four year old Bear Creek resident, Edgar White, finds his orderly life and plans changed when an orphan train derails results in his sudden marriage to runaway Fran Morris.
City girl Fran & her sister Emma pose as orphans in order to escape a pedophile monster who has Emma in his sights. They wind up near Bear Creek where Edgar helps free them from a derailed train car. Then the matron finds out Fran is 19--too old for adoptive placement by the orphanage. She charges Fran with defrauding the agency & it seems the only way out of the situation is to marry Edgar, a confirmed bachelor. I enjoyed their journey way more than I expected to.
i'm deciding whether to do a cowboy books marathon!! ebook is great, as you can read previous published books that are no longer circulating maybe in secondhand book stores. Edgar and Fran's story. Orphan train journey in common and God has a laugh at our ways of dealing with hurt and shielding ourselves from future pain. Edgar's character is giving me much to think about with similarities to my thinking especially regarding pets and death and being a loner.
Set in the 1900 Wyoming the story continues one families unusual dynasty. Jonas White came out West and started his homestead as a bachelor with three young children children. He added more some over time and a wife and the series Wyoming Legacy tells the story. This is Edgar's story. I want ruin the book for you but it is definitely worth the read. The whole series is.
In this story he’s an orphan grown up into a bear of a man. He vows not to trust women, because the one’s he loved left him behind. She is an orphan and she vows to take care of her sister, they are running from a dangerous situation, they boarded a orphan train only disaster strikes as the rails are broken. The train crashes and people are trapped. He comes along and helps pull the passengers to safety. I enjoyed reading this book.
