Vivi Holt can be depended upon to write captivating clean romance novels and novellas. This novel is no exception. June Green is the nanny to Roland Kirk’s 6 and 10-year-old daughters. The four of them have grown close over the past two years since June became the girl’s nanny. This book chronicles the transition of Roland and June’s relationship from employer/employee to that of wife and mother to his children. There are misunderstandings and missteps along the way, but all actions and reactions are believable and realistic. I heartily recommend this book to all my romance reading friends.

-‘He was her compass in the midst of things she couldn't comprehend.’-

This was a really fun read. It really held my attention from beginning to end. The characters were lovely. I really liked that the nanny and her boss were such good friends and had such respect for each other and a firm foundation. The story, to me, was very realistic and down-to-earth.
I read so many books that I sometimes wonder if I’m becoming a book snob. After having read thousands of books it gets harder and harder to find original storylines. This story does remind me of a couple of authors’ works but it was different enough that it still held my interest and I wanted to keep reading. After reading this story, readers should try Masquerade by Janette Rallison and also some of Rachael Anderson’s stories as well. There have similar writing styles and the stories are all equally good. Clean, Christian romance at its best! Highly recommended.

It was great until the last 20%. It didn’t make sense why he went on a date with another woman. And then everything wrapped up way too fast. I hate when authors do that.

If you create conflict, please provide enough time to adequately resolve the issues. You can’t just throw together quick dialogue and call it good, then right an epilogue on the next page.

Also the book lacked romance. The MCs really didn’t go on any dates. She was his “date” to an event, but it was not a date. They cared for each other, but I’m not sure the hero love the heroine like he did his dead spouse. The way he described his relationship with the heroine made it seem like more of a relationship of convenience rather that passionate love.

Other stuff was concerning especially when he decided to go on a date with a woman towards the end of the story, but I won’t get into it.

I took of 2 stars because of the last <20%

Audio book review
This is book 5 in the series but can be listened to as a stand alone. Vivi writes great stories . That feel like real life one . You can actually picture all the characters and the events .
Roland is the hero. June is the heroine.

Roland is a widower with two young girls . He needs help with the children. Roland tries to spend as much time with his beautiful girls but he knows he can do better. He hires June , to take care of them. June feels right at home as a family after a while . Love how there was love shown through action and words .
June was hurt from a pryer boyfriend and it show that boyfriend that she has moved on June suggests to Roland that they pretend that they are engaged. Roland at first cant believe it. He thinks June is crazy and it’s a joke . Will Roland change his mind . Grab it and see . How will the girls feel.

The performance of Amanda was good. Amanda did the story justice. Her tone for the characters were great

*Thank you to 8th Note Press and NetGalley for this eARC; the review is my own.*

This book was fine—I didn’t love it or hate it. It was an okay diversion from some heavier reading, but I was impatient to finish it. I found the writing to be somehow juvenile and outdated at the same time, and I found the characters to be immature, despite their given ages. Though the idea behind it was cute while tropey (widowed billionaire falls for his daughters’ nanny), the execution was only mediocre.

Any character who wasn’t supposed to be liked was presented like a one-dimensional villain in a melodrama, which is something I’ve never liked. Their negative depictions were likely intended to serve as foils to the main characters, but I just found out off putting. June (24) constantly referred to her ex-boyfriend’s new fiancé as “the stick insect" rather than her name, which reflected worse on June than it did on Phyllis. Bedsides the two of them, the only other adult females featured in the book were Barbara (the brazen competition) and Helen (the matronly assistant). Casey (the ex-boyfriend) seemed to possess one trait: sleazy. I couldn't help wondering why June ever dating him or why on earth she pined after him so much, telling herself over and over that she should have been with him. She acted like a recently dumped teenager rather than a 24-year-old adult woman mature enough to care for two children.

Obstacles were unnecessarily placed in June and Roland’s (32) way, and it felt like it was all just to draw out the length of the book (which wasn't even very long). It came across as very contrived and unnatural. Rather than focusing on character development, getting to know each other romantically, or how the two of them could navigate life with a new relationship, the author repeatedly brought the two of them together only to pull them apart again for absolutely on reason. It was always the same argument over and over, and it grew tiresome.

Are the readers this book would appeal to? Definitely, if they're looking for a predictable story with obvious antagonists and a guaranteed happy ending. This is the second Vivi Holt book I've read (Make-Believe Fiancé), and I think it will be my last. Her writing just isn't my style.

How it ends:

Language: None
Drugs: None
Physical intimacy: Kissing
Violence: None
LGBT: None

If you love sweet, clean romances, you should check out the Make-Believe series by Vivi Holt. In this book, June is a nanny for two young girls, Emma and Caitlyn. Their father, Roland Kirk, is a successful billionaire, but he is also a lonely widower. After the sudden death of his beloved wife during Emma's birth, he hasn't wanted to find someone else to share his life with.

After June's boyfriend, Casey, dumps her because he isn't ready to make a commitment, she wants to be able to show him that she has moved on. She suggests a fake proposal of marriage to Roland, who laughs it off, However, when Casey shows up at a restaurant one night with a "Stick Insect" on his arm and introduces her as his fiancé, Roland can't stand the way he treats June and quickly says that they are engaged.

These books are entertaining and uplifting, with their themes of faith, second chances, and love between unlikely people. As always in these books, there are plenty of misunderstandings between the couple, a few setbacks in their relationship and a final awakening of their love. Nothing surprising, but greatly entertaining. Of course, there is a HEA ending, which Ms. Holt's readers have come to expect.

The narrator, Amanda Stribling, does a great job once again and her voice has become the voice of this series IMHO. Also, I love the new covers for this series and think that they are much, much better than the previous ones. I was given a chance to listen to the audiobook version of this book by the author and chose to review it.

I want to preface this review by saying that I love the Nanny/Single Dad trope, but it's not always well done. In this case, I felt Make-Believe Proposal had so much potential to be a good one, but it fell flat for me. For starters I really struggled to connect with June and Rowland. June's ex-boyfriend Casy was an absoulte dick and honestly I felt the same about Rowland. June has this whacky idea to get fake engaged, Rowland shuts her down, and then 2 seconds later is fake asking her to marry him in front of his children, which his dead wife's ring to piss off her ex-boyfriend... like there are so many things wrong with that. Also Rowland constantly kissing June and then saying we shouldn't do that, she's a person not a yo-yo. I just didn't feel the romance between the two of them, it didn't work for me. The only saving graces in this book were Caitlin and Emma (Rowland's two daughters) and Frank, the dog.

Also, the book talks so much about Rowland being this billionaire, but I also found that hard to believe because we weren't given enough bits for us to understand how he got to being so rich, and what his actual job was.

All in all, this wasn't for me, there is also no spice in this book whatsoever, if you're looking for it. I will say though the writing was good, but the story just wasn't for me.

*Please note: I did receive a free copy of this book in return for my honest review. *

Plot: June is a nanny to the billionaire Roland and her boyfriend breaks up with her only to get engaged two weeks late. June's revenge plot is to make her ex see that she's happy and doing just fine without him and then her boss fake-proposes to her in front of her ex.

Review: I absolutely loved this book. That being said, while I love a fake-dating plot I'm not usually a huge fan of the billionaire/age gap trope. The plot and characters were so well written. Even the kids characters are extremely well written. This book transports you into this billionaire's estate and the inner workings of the family. One of the things that I absolutely ADORED was their trip to Destin, FL. While I'm a South Dakota girlie now, once upon a time I was a Pensacola, FL girlie and I frequently go back because I love that area. Mad props for representing the Florida panhandle. The story didn't feel rushed at all, which I feel is tough to do in a short novel but this writer seems to have a knack for it! All around highly recommend this read but this author as well. I've really enjoyed both of the books that I've read by her.

Make-Believe Proposal
Make-Believe Series, Book 5
By: Vivi Holt
Narrated by: Amanda Stribling

Always a wonderful listen, Vivi Holt gives us book 5 of her Make Believe series. This one is inspiring in so many ways. We get to know June, the nanny for Roland's two daughters. She loves her job, and has recently been dumped by her ex. While he is gallivanting around town with his new girl, June is determined not to let him see her hurt. Roland steps in to her rescue and states they are engaged. Now what will they do with this lie? I really enjoyed this one for a couple of reasons. I love the relationship Roland has with his girls. It's heartwarming as they do things together. I found the budding slow burn between Roland and June so good, and the conflicts Roland felt both frustrating and realistic! It's a beautifully written story, and will keep your heart full as you listen.

Amanda Stribling continues with her wonderful narrations. I love her voice, find her way of connecting with the characters makes them believable. As always, she made my ears happy!

This is a sweet romance that starts out simple enough...sort of...the boss pretends that he's engaged to his nanny for her to save face in front of her douche bag ex. Business man, widower and single dad, Roland lives for work and his children ever since his wife died two years ago. He is fortunate to have a nanny who adores his kids and takes great care of them. June loves her job as nanny and is having a great life, until her longtime boyfriend dumps her because they were getting too serious. Of course, when she sees him weeks later, he introduces her to his fiancee`! When June is out to dinner with Roland and the kids, the ex-douche stops by their table, with his fiancee`, and begins to make snide remarks at June...in steps Roland, proposing to June. The boss-nanny relationship takes a turn after that...there was also a date to a function and a kiss...swoon. Can this pair reconcile their changing feelings for each other? Another sweet story in the Make-Believe series, with great narration.

Make-Believe Proposal (Make-Believe Series - Book #5 )
By: Vivi Holt
Make-Believe Proposal is book five in the Make-Believe Series. You can read this as a stand-a-lone. I really enjoyed this sweet and clean romance. I was drawn in at the start and did not want to put it down. The story and the characters were well written and realistic . This is June and Roland’s story. June is a live in nanny for Rolands two children. Roland is a billionaire and loves his children. I like the friendship between June, Roland, and the children. Roland tries to help June out when her boyfriend breaks up with her and comes back causes problems. Is he helping her or hurting her? What will this do to their friendship? I highly recommend this sweet and happy romance.
I was given a complimentary copy of this book , but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to 8th Note Press and NetGalley for an advanced readers e-book in exchange for an honest review of this book.

Make Believe Proposal follows the lives of June, a nanny, and Roland, June's boss. Roland helps June by fake-proposing to her in front of her ex-boyfriend and that's where the plot line seems to begin.

Given this book is only 177 pages, I wasn't expecting a lot of detail. However this book fell incredibly flat. The romance is very forced and seems to go from no feelings to "Oh my Gosh, I'm in love" in one sentence. There's honestly next to no chemistry between June and Roland.

There were a lot of unnecessary plot lines in this book, like finding a dog and Roland going on a date with Barbara. This book was all over the place and all in all, not for me.

Vivi Holt has an incredible panache for writing insightful listens that are full of wisdom, along with being clean and sweet, and adds some humor. Make Believe Proposal has characters that are endearing. June, Caitlyn, Emma, Roland, and Frank are the so endearing. I found the story to be well written and charming. The narration by Amanda Stribling is perfect. She brings the characters to life, giving them distinguishable voices. The way the author wrote the bullying of Caitlyn was well done and sensitive. It addressed the issue and provided wonderful wisdom. This book is part of a series and a standalone listen. I will definitely listen to more books by this amazing author and narrator.

Such a great story line! If you need a dream, this story is perfect. He wants his girls to experience a normal life & even though his work keeps him busy, he makes sure he is as regularly involved in their lives as possible. He treats June with respect & includes her as part of the family rather than just hired help. I LOVE how June is so loving with the girls & her inspirational encouragement when Caitlyn is being bullied. Physical attraction, love & desire doesn't have to be steamy to touch the heart.

Such a sweet and real life-like story... A widower with two girls hires a nanny to help out and the nanny fits right in. The nanny is struggling from a break-up and trying to prove to her ex-boyfriend that she's moved on. Can she convince her boss to play along with the harmless deception? What could possibly go wrong? The narration was great and I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book... was it predictable? Yes, but honestly what Hallmark type movie isn't and yet we still love them!

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

This is the fifth book in the Make-Believe Series. I love this Series. Roland and June story is beautifully written, sweet and clean. This is an older man and younger woman romance. June, a nanny, is a lovely woman, caring and sweet. Roland, a widower, billionaire, dad of two daughters, is handsome, protective and caring. I like their slow burn story. They are great together. I love the fake proposal scene! The little ones are so cute! Amanda Stribling did a great job with the narration. I enjoyed it. Looking forward for the next book in the Series, Make-Believe Marriage.

June has been a live in nanny for widower Roland's two daughters for two years when she splits up with her boyfriend.
In an effort to make her ex jealous she suggests that she pretends to get engaged to her boss, which in the end he reluctantly ages to.
He doesn't think that they have a chance of being together due to their age differences (she's 24,him 32),she doesn't want to potentially ruin their friendship and also risk losing her job and his two girls that she adores.

Clean, wholesome love story

A billionaire with two daughters who have a sweet nanny. While the story may sound predictable, Ms. Holt has written it like it's a new premise While Juneis still reeling from her recent break-up, her ex shows up with his brand new fiance. And that's just the beginning. If you're a fan of clean billionaire romances, I would highly recommend this book.

Second Chances

If you've read other books in this series you will know that each stands alone but there are characters you will know from other books. In this case, our football hero's sister takes center stage as nanny to a self-made billionaire's two young daughters. A well thought out plot, likeable characters, wonderful narration and a clean, sweet, faith-based (but not intrusively!) tale--what's not to love?

Second Chances

Sweet love story of a widower with two young daughters and their Nanny, June. After two years of being in charge of two adorable children, June and Roland realized they had feelings for each other beyond concern for the children. Could he forget his deceased wife and love again? Wasn't he too old for her? Could June bear the thought of not helping with the children? Great book!

Yikes. I don’t know what else to say. This book was hard to get through. The writing was almost as if I was reading something written as a kids attempt at writing a romance book. Absolutely zero chemistry between the characters. The dialogue felt weird and made me uncomfortable. Why did he propose in front of his kids? How is he going explain that to them later? Especially if it’s meant to be a fake proposal. Oof. Oof. Oof. I couldn’t do it. This was bad.

What a fun and dreamy read! I really admired June for her maturity and love for her job. When things went from bad to worse June still kept her head up and didn’t let it drag her down. The friendship between June and Roland was one of fun, comfort and romance. I was so caught up in it and couldn’t put the book down! Better than a Hallmark movie!

Make-Believe Proposal is a Hallmark style, feel good, heart warming story. Roland, a billionaire, just wants his girls to have as normal a life as possible. June, the nanny, really loves both girls. She and Roland have a great friendship. This is their story as they move from friendship to love. I was captivated from page one.

This story is romantic. Roland is her friend and helps her save face by proposing to his nanny. Even though it's a fake proposal, Roland's feeling are real for his nanny. She has helped his family and he wants to do everything to help her. They find that spark that turns friends into lovers. This story is heartwarming and left me feeling good.

I liked this book. They wouldn't have so many problems if they just talked to each other but ok. Roland was all over the place, he wanted her, he wanted to protect her, he needed her, she deserved better than him, that man was a all roller coaster. June was so sweet, trying to understand her feelings and trying not to overstep at the same time

The premise of this one (Nanny/Boss & age gap) was really fun and I love the cover but the story fell flat for me. I didn't love the FMC and found her to be childish for someone in their twenties. The writing was repetitive and a bit immature, and I couldn't get into the POV, resulting in a DNF for this one.
