It all came down to fate. At stake: $4,000 billion of the world’s trade and 20% of the population. The Taiwanese Tiger and the Chinese Dragon are squaring up at last.
The island of Taiwan, long coveted by the Chinese, is separated from China by 100 miles of the Straits of Taiwan. For years there have been tensions between the two countries, with China wanting unification but many in Taiwan preferring independence. The conflict has reached boiling point and the USA has sworn to defend the island. Now billions of lives are threatened in a nuclear exchange between America and its trade partner and foe across the Pacific, China.
It all came down to two people: Commander Nathan Blake and May Hsin. He’s commander of the submarine USS Stonewall Jackson; she’s an officer with the National Security Bureau, Taiwan’s intelligence agency. They must both wrestle with their own demons to prevail. For Nathan, it’s his conflicting rules of engagement, whereas May is undercover in the enemy’s lair but finding warmth in the snake’s coils.
You’ve been called up. You will serve on board the USS Stonewall Jackson and go along with May Hsin into the backstreets of Shanghai. It’s down to you now. Fate is cruel; get used to it.
Stephen Makk is the author of 20 books, including the bestselling USS Stonewall Jackson Series and The Tom Hilton Series. He mainly writes thrillers about technology and the military, with hints of romance. His protagonists are male and female, playing the imperfect hands they’re dealt.
How to write like a Makk… Take the mind of a fish, any fish (he’s an experienced diver). Add an engineer, simmer for years. Sprinkle on liberal helpings of strategist, astronomer, historian and anthropologist. Bring to the boil and let loose. You need some Makk on your bookshelf!
Couldn't finish reading this book with the terrible punctuation! REALLY? You write these books and put them out with punctuation that ruins a sentence and think it's good? Note to author, this ( ?) Is a question mark. When a sentence asks a question, you put this at the end to let the reader know it's a question, not a statement. Gave it one star because that's the lowest I could go!
A US submarine skipper who is banging his communication officer? A communication officer who is also a super intelligence agent? A south Korean s female spy who roams freely through the PRC? You'll find them all in this book. The submarine is used to insert the korean agent secretly into the PRC but later, she returns to it, in the middle of a war, by taking a commercial flight from Thailand!!! The plot is interesting but it is superficially developed.
This story is fast paced and action resides on each page. Combined with technology, a creative captain and crew, thus adventure delves into the dangerous world of espionage & intrigue. I held back the fifth star as there were editing errors concerning spelling & sentence structure. Such errors, to me, are totally inexcusable given existing technology and in taking the time to weed out sentence errors. Once corrected this book would achieve a 5 starbrating.
An SM. Submarine Thriller (USSSJ - 5)/China vs Taiwan
sM. has. penned a Submarine thriller, the fifth in the (USSSJ - 5) military thriller which includes a war time footing between Taiwan and China. The USSSJ is sent into the area to assist Taiwan, but first the Captain must many with a Taiwan spy in Shanghai. Both side during the meeting hope a settlement can be reached, short of using nuclear weapons. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
Read was OK, but found the COB (Chief of the Boat) language when referring to female members rather derogatory. In real life, the females might have a sexual harassment complaint. I never used that language when addressing female members of my military unit. Finally the IUS received some assistance from another service (British) rather than "doing all by themselves". Made this read a little more realistic.
Blow, look out below as blowing ships to Hell is Stonewall, at its best!!!
,,If you get your jollies by reading great submarine stories, then get prepared for great stories with great chapters because you have hit the treasure site. Some of the best along with more than one story after another is coming your way full speed ahead .
A quick but satisfying read, one i would recommend for fans of spy novels and naval warfare, an easy book to pick though not the best in the series which you do not have to read to enjoy this book.
The author has written a very interesting story about how a plot to invade and overthrow the government of Taiwan and return the island to China. This book is filled with intrigue, suspension and action.
Full of exciting battle plots and counter planning as the assault is unfolding. The deep deception suddenly unfolds as the tide turns. Add in a hair raising search and destroy for the crew to resolve. A fast paced read.
If you write a line of books I see no reason why you can't incorporate people from one book to another. It just makes for a good story line with lots of action!
