In the publication “The Digest Enthusiast #9” edited by Richard Krauss, Digests are examined, reviewed, reported upon and re-examined. The publication even contains some new fiction.

In this issue, there are interviews with Susan Emshwiller, the daughter of author Carol and artist Ed Emshwiller (this covers artist). Victoria Green, the senior art director of “Penny Publications”, who publish ’Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine’, 'Analog’, ‘Asimov’s Science Fiction’, ‘Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine’, ‘Dell Horoscope’, ‘Good Time Sudoku’ among others.

The contents also include articles, Reviews, Synopses and Departments, also there is a nice article on the 1954 ‘Manhunt’ digests. There is knowledgeable coverage of the recent ‘New’ digests in the news section of this book.

The presentation is well produced and well presented, if I had any complaint it would involve the utilization of only black and white images of the art and covers being discussed in the various sections. Having said that, the publisher does an excellent job of organizing and displaying informative and useful knowledge of the digest market.

The aim of the magazine is to explore the diverse world of digest magazines. “The Digest Enthusiast” is extremely well produced, with clean layouts and clear, expertly printed articles about a lost American publishing format

The latest volume of the one and only digest about digests is a strong one (and I'm not stating that because I'm in it). I was completely absorbed in the interview with painter and filmmaker Ed Emshwiller's daughter, Susan, also a fascinating artist. Also intriguing: an overview of the many magazines Ray Palmer edited, another copiously researched article by Steve Carper on one-shots published by digest magazine publishers, and an interview with Victoria Green, Art Director for the Penny Press and Dell Magazine brands (including Analog and Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine). Plus: short fiction, cartoons, many more articles, an overview of current digests released and the proverbial more. If you enjoy digest magazines, you'll enjoy The Digest Enthusiast!

Number nine and feeling fine

I discovered this mag two years ago. And each issue brings forth the glory of genre artifacts and offers fresh takes. An undiscovered History exists between these pages for those of you who are just joining the party. For those of you who write modern pulp...this mag throws a light into the darkness. I highly recommend for anyone who wants to know what’s happening now and what happened back then.
