The Dragon Deals the Cards

Mina George is not one of those Georges. She doesn’t kill dragons. Instead she’s inherited the Dragon Deck. A cursed deck of 52 cards that was made from dragon scales. The Dragon Deck is a blessing and a curse. It enables Mina to predict the future. It has also driven several of her ancestors mad.Mina inherited the Dragon deck twenty years ago when her parents died. She was sent to live on the Farm – a place for ‘troubled’ people. In reality it was a dumping ground for Supernatural folks who ran afoul of the law. The Farm was run by the mysterious Lord Bethesda and it was a dangerous place to grow up.Three years ago Mina fell in love with a mechanic and found herself pregnant. Prophetic dreams and fear for her unborn child forced Mina to escape the Farm. It cost her the life of her beloved but she fled anyway.Mina eventually found her way to Castaway Camp – a safe haven for Supernaturals. Mina and her son Liam have lived in relative safety at Camp for the better part of two years. They’ve made friends and allies. They live in a camper van, while Mina works to earn full membership in the Castaway Camp Crew. Two days ago, Mina woke to find Liam gone without a trace. After an exhaustive search of the campground and consulting the cards, she discovered that he had been kidnapped. Will the Dragon Deck help her bring Liam home or will it fail Mina like it has so many of her ancestors?

I just read this for a second time (before I start the second book of the series) and I love it just as much as I did the first time.

This book is different than others I typically read, but to me it is the perfect fantasy book. I was drawn in by the story of a mom whose son has gone missing and the lengths she'll travel to find him. I found the inclusion of magic and magical characters/creatures to be absolutely delightful.
