Laney isn’t looking for love. She’s perfectly happy with the life she’s built for herself in the little town of Foreston, Washington. She’s a successful businesswoman, the owner of an alterations shop with a clientele across the northwest. She’s the chair of the local Victorian house museum’s annual fashion show. And she has a reputation for a magic touch: the rumor around town is that anyone who wears one of the period costumes she designs in her spare time will be blessed with good luck.

That’s what they say, anyway. Laney knows the truth is a bit more complicated—anything she wills while sewing has a tendency of coming to pass. It’s a supernatural gift from the fae who are said to inhabit the woods surrounding the Paine Estate, and it’s taught her to keep a guard on her notorious redheaded temper. But keeping her temper becomes difficult when journalist Paul Nelson comes to town to do a feature about the museum. With his stunning good looks and swoon-worthy English accent, Paul is charming, irresistible… and just so happens to be Laney’s ex.

Laney wants nothing more than to keep Paul at arm’s length, but when she stumbles across a series of break-ins at the museum, she may have no choice but to trust the dashing reporter who once broke her heart to help her catch the culprit. And when a nearby forest fire threatens the safety of the town—and of the woods—will Laney be able to put her old feelings aside in order to protect the magic of Foreston? Or will that same magic lead to an unexpected happy ending?

Laney and Paul met during her junior year of college in Europe. They split the week she headed home. Paul was a uVer investigator and his career changed to newscaster in the field for major cable network. She entered her family business of apparel restoration, alterations and creative design. She and her sister have fae gifts with hers being her feelings going into the clothes she makes, giving good luck to the wearer. Working with the local museum, she spots several paintings that are forged, courtesy of the brownies in the old house. Paul is doing a documentary on the town and he helps work out the mystery. The characters are vivid in description from all directions from spoiled, sweet, hoboish, family and fae. The locale seems real in my mind. The suspense of seeing an old boyfriend, paintings stolen, a forest fire coming toward the town, a gun being pointed at you, having so many staying with you (including old boyfriend) and much more. This is one story you will not be able to put down. I will be rereading this again, just to catch things I did not get the first time.

I loved Laney, she is talented, determined as well as having a great gift that flows through the clothes she sews to the wearer which is great as long as she isn't in a bad mood when she sews!! Things have been going well for her and they are about to have their biggest fashion show and silent auction however one fae stealing a fork is the first of many to happen to Laney and those around her. There are laughs, great friends and family, undeniable attraction, theft, fires, deceit, an ex boyfriend (who seems very nice fyi), a forest of fae to save and learning more about the fae powers that keeps you turning the page and seeing what will happen with everything! I did get a little confused about who was who between book one and two and figured out it Laney's brother Matthew who is in book 2 :)
